Cherreads

Chapter 16 - Sharp Tongue

Gwin actually had a goal during the induction ceremony.

These ceremonies happened on the first of every month since the time sleepers emerged from their nightmares was erratic. Towards the winter solstice things got even busier. By that comparison this group was actually smaller than most with around 40 people currently in the room. They were separated into mostly two types at the moment.

There were the legacies that each carried a refined and dangerous presence to them. They had been trained to survive in this world with the best resources possible since birth and were like living weapons. Even a legacy with a dormant aspect would be more dangerous than most. On the other hand were the children of middle class citizens. They were kids who had fortunately passed their first nightmare. They had received some training in school as per government requirements. These kids had not had access to awakened tutors like a legacy would.

There was a third group as well that Gwin was a part of. They were either the high class citizens who could afford an awakened tutor or those who had awakened parent(s). As far as Gwin could tell he was the only one like that. As he lumbered through the crowd his eyes caught onto a girl standing in the center of the crowd. She was shorter than Gwin, which was normal since he was abnormally tall for a sleeper, but her entire demeanor screamed grace and deadly skill. She had short and straight hair that was styled in a bob cut. It was longer in the front than in the back and she had long bangs that completely covered her face down to her nose.

Her skin was pale white and her lips a pale red. She was wearing a short wine colored qipao. Most eye-catching of all was her crimson hair that made her elegant dress seem dull in comparison. Gwin recognized that dress though and as he did he felt a shiver run down his spine.

'Ki Song…'

The entire awakened world was split between three clans. They are Valor, The House of Night, and Ki Song. Even though the House of Night is one of the big three it is undoubtedly the weakest. They are a coalition of smaller clans while Ki Song and Valor are two powerhouses. Each one has control over a large portion of the dream world that isn't a death zone. The girl he was looking at wasn't a vassal clan legacy that served a great clan, she was pure legacy royalty.

There was a ring of emptiness around her. It seemed nobody wanted to approach her and Gwin couldn't blame them. Slighting a great clan was not something someone did if they wanted to live a long life. Their best bet was to stay away from her and focus on themselves. Even the other legacies seemed hesitant to approach her.

Being a female legacy from Ki Song meant one thing…she was a daughter of Ki Song herself. Not actually though. Ki Song has a habit of picking up orphans from the outskirts and training them into one of her so called daughters. This girl must be one of them which was even more intimidating.

Gwin swallowed hard. He knew what he wanted to do…no had to do. There was a reason these three clans were on top. Each possessed a divine lineage. Valor contained War Gods lineage, the House of Night possessed Storm God's lineage, Ki Song however possessed Beast God's. If he wanted to discover how to get her lineage he would have to get a connection to Ki Song. He wasn't sure but he knew his aspect had to do with beast god so having her lineage would be a complete boon. A part of him felt like it was a missing puzzle piece he needed. Usually claiming someone else's lineage would be impossible unless you inherit it from your parents, however Ki Song seemed to be able to grant the lineage to her daughters even though they aren't related by blood.

'I need that lineage.'

Gwin did his best to hide how nervous he was and took a step forward. All around him people seemed to flinch as he infiltrated the invisible barrier around her. Her arms were crossed and her body language was annoyed. She turned her attention to Gwin which made him want to run. Despite most of her face being covered by her bangs this girl was absolutely beautiful, even more so than the other legacies.

'Holy hell…what do they feed these guys..'

Gwin tried his best not to stare as he approached. He stopped just before her and began typing in his communicator which earned him a perplexed look from her. He finished typing and his communicator projected them in the air for her to see.

{I'm Gwin, it is nice to meet you. What is your name?}

She stared at the words with an unreadable expression. Finally she looked at Gwin who was doing his friendly smile.

"Bow."

'What?'

{Pardon?}

"It is common courtesy to bow when speaking to someone superior is it not?"

She was kinda right to Gwin's annoyance. He was currently in need of something she could lead him to so bowing wasn't really an outlandish request. Also that must be what she is used to right?

'How could I be so stupid! She's one of Ki Song's daughters after all!'

Gwin relented and did a polite bow. She seemed satisfied with that to Gwin's relief.

"I am Elena of Clan Song."

'She isn't making this easy..'

She didn't seem keen on talking to him.

{It is an honour to meet a daughter of Ki Song.}

'Got to butter her up. People are so eas-'

"Do you think flattery is going to work on me? Go find another legacy to cling to."

She turned away curtly after. Gwin's ears were burning. Despite dwarfing her he felt tiny in her presence. The empty ring made a lot more sense now. This girl was cut from a different cloth from the rest entirely. His pride and ego prevented him from taking this lying down however, after all he killed an awakened devil! She wasn't so scary compared to that.

{You seem confident.}

'Just stay calm. Good first impression…can't act like the rest…'

She turned her attention back to him now visibly annoyed by his presence.

"Aren't you observant…can you go away now? You are creeping me out and this typing thing is getting on my nerves."

'Screw first impressions'
