Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 Magic

"Oh come on!? Are you seriously trying to tell me that you have zero magical aptitude? That can't be! Not with your magical presence…" Irene complained, while the elderly man, August, as Cassian had learned, stood close by, with a helpless look on his face.

It has been a week, since Cassian had been... adopted...?

Under the guidance of August, as well as Irene, he had been taught magic.

Well, that was at least the plan.

It seemed ridiculously clear that he was unable to learn any normal kinds of magic, the two old wizards knew.

Yes, that had been another thing Cassian got to find out; Irene, was apparently multiple centuries old, which was also why even August sometimes joked about her age, if they were alone.

Nevertheless, not a single proper magic could be taught to him. This was a true shock, to the magically enthusiastic Cassian. Though, he had already somewhat feared that outcome, after the second day, of trial and error.

In that time frame, he had also not been allowed outside, even once. Besides the extremely spacious balcony, which was also part of the palace, or castle he was inside of.

He had also gotten to know about the name of his majesty, which was Spriggan, apparently. To most people, at least.

The king, no. The emperor often visited him. Basically, every day, one visit could be expected.

Just yesterday, Cassian had learned that Spriggan wasn't actually the name of his majesty, but rather something akin to a moniker that he had given himself, someday, in the distant past.

His real name was, in fact Zeref.

In Cassian's opinion, that name definitely sounded a lot better.

Right now, Cassian was meditating on the enormous balcony, surrounded by the green of nature.

This had quickly become his favorite spot, in the entire castle.

Here, he felt… at home.

Somehow, it seemed after his transmigration, he had formed a real connection to nature. Though, this could be somewhat expected, since in his body, there was now fae blood, and his body had also been reconstructed to fit this special species…

'Wait! It can't be that simple… right?' The moment he was reminded, about his special properties, a sudden idea struck his mind. An idea so easy, and simple that it seemed stupid even.

August had explained the way of magic to him, on his very first day. About; how there was something called a magic contained, in every person's body, where their own magic would be stored, as well as the magic all around them was called ethernano, or something like that.

But, that was how it was for every normal being, native to this world. Not for someone with a bloodline, from beyond this world.

And not just any world, but from the world of fate.

In that world, there were two kinds of magic; Magecraft, the magic of modern times, which basically serves as an imitation of the original, which is also the second type, Magic.

Magic was technically not something, just anyone could achieve, not that many ever did. Only five different Magi ever managed to reach this level, at least to Cassian's knowledge.

But, this world was different, and what knowledge might obscure the Mystery, on which Magic is ultimately built upon, might not necessarily exist in this world.

At the same time, no Counter Force should exist here, since this is not the earth, where it originally existed… only he and his irregularity did.

It seemed like a senseless, and yet ingenious idea that Cassian needed to try it out.

'Magic… something akin to the power of the gods… making the impossible possible, while keeping it impossible, and unexplained…

Master August explained there to be a few things not achievable by human magic, nor by any other. Those would include; true time travel, or complete spacial domination.

Time travel seems as something relative… spacial domination seems more useful, as well as more achievable, which could actually be a problem… whatever, trial and error, right?'

Cassian recounted everything of importance he could remember, adding to it, everything new he had learned, especially about magic, and this world.

He took a deep breath, before he began trying to actively manipulate his magical energy.

"There are magic types about something akin to a spacial storage… at least partly, it was called Requip, I think… then, I need something more…" he was so concentrated that he hadn't even noticed that he was mumbling everything, instead of merely thinking it.

Fortunately, right now, no one was around, and heard what he was saying.

"Something more…" That was the important part that he needed to concentrate on. Achieving something that is deemed impossible.

"...true spacial domination… not just using it… owning it…"

Unknown to him, Ethernano from all around him was swiftly condensing around him. It was as if he was sucking every ounce of Ethernano from the world around him, absorbing it, before giving it up again, this time tinged with his unique mark to it.

The minutes ticked by, as he was focusing, and concentrating intensely on the feeling he was so close to reaching. A feeling that seemed so close, and yet, was unreachable…

"That's it!"

The answer had once more, been right in front of him.

Cassian immediately tried acting on his instincts, so much so that he didn't even notice a system notification.

He continued, and continued.

Eventually, though, it was time for dinner, and August had volunteered to get their newest guest. Already knowing about the young man's favorite spot, that was where the old wizard headed first, and soon arrived at.

But, just as he wanted to step on to the balcony, he felt something weird. It felt, as if he had just walked against a wall, and yet, there was nothing in front of him.

The old wizard, known by the moniker of 'Wizard King' was intrigued by what was seemingly happening, and kept resisting against this 'wall'… yet, there was no getting through. Not even when the experienced wizard used his own magical capacities, not even when he tried copying what was in front of him.

There was nothing he could do. And so, even the old man, one of the strongest humans to ever live, gave up.

With a gentle expression on his face, he turned around, and began heading back, "It seems the boy does have some talent, hoho. Though, I am certainly interested in what kind of spell it is that he is using right now…"

Cassian had no idea what had just happened, nor what was occurring in the world outside of his own mind. He was too busy holding on to the feeling he was so close to grasping.

---

"How long has it been, now? Surely, he must need some food soon. Also, how has his magic not run out, yet?" Irene grumbled, clearly dissatisfied with how things were going, right now.

"Calm down, there is no reason to get anxious. Sooner, or later, his magic will run out, and he will be eat something." August tried to calm her down, with mild results.

"It has merely been three days, since that parasite had been doing his thing. You should be more worried about his majesty… he hasn't eaten in two days! He truly is a benevolent leader, even caring so much for this parasite that he would remain close to him, all this time…"

The blue-haired, bespectacled man, Invel, also voiced his thoughts, but was practically tuned out, by the other two present.

There were technically more members of the emperor's guard, but these three were the only ones currently in the imperial capital city, Vistarion.

---

"Finally!" Cassian muttered, after he finally managed to get a grasp on the feeling, he had been chasing.

The next moment, he finally opened his eyes, only to see that the night had replaced the day already.

"How come night has come? Did I seriously meditated for hours? Guess August was right; when you get a feeling for it, you will not even notice the time passing…" Cassian reasoned.

"It wasn't hours, but days, actually."

The sudden voice quickly caught Cassian's attention, and he turned towards it.

"Hey there, have you had a breakthrough in your magic?"

"Master Zeref, when have you arrived here? Wait- days? How long had I been at it?" The blonde asked the other person, who had seemingly appeared out of nowhere, and was sitting just a few meters away.

"Well, I arrived shortly after August first found you. As for how long you've been at it… it should be about two weeks, today." Zeref responded calmly, and in a sincere tone.

Hearing what the emperor just said, Cassian's eyes went wide. Meditating for a few hours had been hard for him to believe, but two weeks? Now, that was a pill to swallow.

"Wait. If I meditated for two weeks, how come I'm not hungry, or anything like that? I actually feel rather refreshed."

Zeref nodded sagely, "That is actually a very interesting thing. While you were meditating, and the space around you seemed completely locked off, Ethernano still managed to flow freely into your space, and proceeded to simply be absorbed by you.

If I'm not wrong, I'd say; you can live on Magical Power alone. You don't seem to need food, water, nor even sleep."

The hypothesis seemed rather logically. Especially to Cassian, who connected this theory to how Servants behaved in the world of Fate.

But, weren't they just beings made entirely of magic, anyway? Then, how did it work for him? Was his fae bloodline really that convenient? Or, was it from eating that dragon meat?

Indeed, in the first week, after his 'adoption', Cassian had completely consumed the two week ration. Apparently, the two week measurement was in the scale of his old world, not that he could accurately compare them.

It could've, just as well have been, due to him being more physically active.

Cassian did not have any memories, which 'belonged to him'. He had some general knowledge, thankfully, but there was nothing personal left.

"Nevertheless, what was it you were trying to achieve here?" Zeref asked again, his smile radiating nothing but innocence and peace.

Cassian thought for a moment, but decided to simply answer, there should be no way to replicate anything he might create his way, anyway.

"I tried a different approach, and somehow managed to grasp something. Though, it took a while, it seemed. But, no I feel something more, inside of me. So, I think I should be able to use it again. This time, consciously."

Zeref seemed somewhat melancholic, upon hearing this. As if he was remembering something, or someone dear.

"Right… you should leave soon, Cassian."

The blonde got confused, hearing this, "Have I done something wrong, Master Zeref?"

"No." The black-haired young man shook his head. "From the first moment I saw you, I knew that this is not the right place for you. It is just that your parting gifts have only been finished the day before yesterday."

After saying these words, Zeref stood up, and walked towards one of the giant arches, leading back into the castle. Though, before stepping through, he paused, and looked towards Cassian, who was still standing still, "Come on, August should have prepared everything, already."

Not knowing what else to do, Cassian simply followed after the emperor.

It took both of them a few minutes to get to where Zeref was leading him. In the end, they arrived in one of the many enormous halls of the palace.

In the middle of it, August was already standing before a few tables, while Irene was also standing close by, looking uninterested, yet still present.

As they got closer, Cassian noticed sheets laying over the tables, while something definitely lay below those sheets. Though, before he got to the tables, his attention was caught on something else.

Behind August, something else stood, also hidden under a sheet. It had a humanoid shape. Mostly, at least.

August didn't give him any time to wonder any longer, though, and with one pull, removed what was hidden beneath the sheet.

Cassian couldn't believe his eyes at first, it was… beautiful.

Before his eyes stood a suit of armor, it was finely crafted, which was a given, if it was ordered by one of them.

The armor was truly extravagant. Its main colors were blue and white, with gold mixed in, as accessories. It consisted of; probably heavy plates of some kind of metal, decorated with many golden accents on the white surface, fabrics that mainly highlighted the blue color scheme.

Nevertheless, the helmet was the most impressive. It was nothing else, than the head of Myriad that he had kept after the fight. Just that it was now completely turned into a unique and impressive knightly helmet, which combined style with practicality.

"What do you say, are you satisfied with it?"
