Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjostr

One day, while Thor was searching for something to eat in the depths of the underworld, he came across a scene that made him stop in his tracks.

A gigantic dinosaur, with scales like rough stone, was trying to devour three goats.

One of them—a massive adult goat—was standing in front of the other two, clearly defending them.

From the look of things, it was their mother, desperate to protect her young. The two smaller goats clung to her back, trembling as the dinosaur roared.

Thor observed for a moment and could see that the mother goat was already badly injured.

Deep cuts and blood covered her fur, and her legs shook each time she tried to hold her ground.

The two small goats cried out repeatedly, their bleats echoing through the hollow cavern. A wave of pity welled up inside Thor as he watched the hopeless struggle.

Without hesitation, Thor took out the shovel he had forged from the Adam Tree's wood. The tool glimmered faintly in the dim light.

He leapt into the air with powerful legs, rising higher than the dinosaur could anticipate. Both the beast and the mother goat looked upward just as Thor came crashing down.

The shovel struck the dinosaur's skull with a sharp crack, shattering the bone and killing it instantly.

The battle ended as quickly as it had begun. The mother goat, who had been standing purely on willpower and love for her offspring, finally collapsed.

Her body fell heavily onto the ground, her eyes still open but fading.

She turned her gaze toward Thor, and in that fleeting moment, her expression seemed to plead with him—begging him to take care of her young.

Thor sighed softly as he looked at the two small goats trying to nudge their fallen mother, bleating weakly in confusion. He knelt beside them and gently patted their heads. "I'm sorry," he said quietly. "Your mother is gone. But don't worry. I'll give her a proper burial. I won't eat her. You'll stay with me from now on."

The two young goats let out louder cries, as though understanding his words or at least feeling his intent.

Thor decided not to waste any time. Using his shovel, he began digging a grave for their mother. The soil was thick and heavy, but his strength made the task easy.

Once the hole was ready, he placed the goat's body carefully inside and covered it with earth. He said nothing, only bowing his head for a moment before standing up again.

The two little goats stood nearby, staring at the buried spot before turning toward the corpse of the dinosaur.

They began ramming their small heads against its body as if trying to avenge their mother. The sight made Thor smile faintly.

Afterward, he dragged the dinosaur closer to his campfire and began cooking it.

While the meat roasted over the flames, the two goats sat near him, making odd grinding sounds with their mouths that started to irritate Thor slightly.

Watching them curiously, he decided to give them names based on their habits.

"I'll call you Teethgnasher," he said, pointing at the one constantly grinding its teeth, "and you, Teethbarer, since you keep showing me your teeth."

Both goats bleated loudly as if in protest, stomping their tiny hooves on the ground.

Thor chuckled. "Fine, fine," he said, "I'll make the names sound better. You'll be called Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjostr." The two goats bleated again, but this time their tone sounded more accepting.

Thor grinned to himself and thought, Hehe, idiots, it's the same name, just in another language.

As the dinosaur cooked, its scent spread across the underworld. Thor knew that the smell would attract more predators, and that was exactly what he wanted.

It wasn't long before two even larger dinosaurs appeared, drawn by the aroma of meat.

Thor stood up, gripping his shovel tightly, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.

"Perfect timing," he muttered as he rushed forward. The ground shook as the two massive beasts charged toward him.

At the same time, Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjostr also ran forward, bleating fiercely as if ready for war.

Despite being thrown around and slammed into the ground several times, the goats refused to back down, their determination mirroring Thor's own spirit.

Thor, moving with surprising speed for his size, focused on one dinosaur and brought it down quickly.

His shovel crushed through the creature's thick hide, ending the fight in moments. Meanwhile, the two goats continued battling the other dinosaur, but they were struggling to find an opening.

"Listen!" Thor shouted to them. "Attack from two sides! Use your horns and aim for its weak spots. When it lowers its guard, go beneath it and strike again!"

The goats seemed to understand. They split apart, circling the dinosaur from opposite directions.

The creature turned its head back and forth in confusion, unable to decide which one to attack first.

Then, Tanngnjostr charged in and jabbed its horn into one of the dinosaur's legs, making it roar in pain. When it tried to crush Tanngnjostr, Tanngrisnir attacked the other leg.

They repeated this pattern again and again until the dinosaur's legs finally gave out.

When it collapsed, the two goats charged together, ramming their horns into its neck and finishing the fight.

"Great job," Thor called out, smiling with satisfaction. The two goats bleated proudly in response.

Once the battle was over, Thor returned to the campfire where the first dinosaur was already cooked.

He began eating the tender meat, rich in nutrients, and made sure to share it with his new companions.

For the goats, he also set aside the bones, encouraging them to gnaw on them to strengthen their teeth. While they were busy chewing, Thor gathered some hemp vines and twisted them into ropes.

He tied them around the goats' necks so they could help him pull the carcasses of the two newly defeated dinosaurs back home.

After a long walk through the sprawling underworld terrain, Thor finally reached the cabin he and Loki had built.

The two goats followed behind, dragging the enormous dinosaurs with all their strength. Everything in Elbaf was vast, and even a simple trip home took time.

When they arrived, Loki stepped out of the cabin and blinked in surprise. "Huh? What's that?" he asked, noticing the two exhausted goats gasping for air, the ropes tied behind them, and the huge dinosaurs trailing in the dirt.

"These are Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjostr," Thor said proudly. "My new pets. I'll train them to become strong—stronger than some giants in the upper realm."

Loki raised an eyebrow but said nothing. Thor then grinned and added, "Anyway, let's cook our food. I'm starving." He set about roasting the dinosaurs near the cabin's fire pit, not even caring that he had already eaten earlier.

Loki watched quietly, uninterested in the burnt food, but didn't complain.

The day passed peacefully after that. The air in the underworld was calm, and for once, there were no interruptions—no beasts, no visitors.

Ida, Hajrudin, and their friends were all in the upper realm, leaving Thor and Loki to enjoy one of their rare quiet days together.
