Chapter 4 - Escape The Hoard(2)

CHAPTER 4: ESCAPE THE HOARD(2)

Staring at Greenskin made me feel somewhat guilty. Ruining any thought of sleep, even though the sun was still way up.

Finally, there was quiet and peace.

As I was calming down, something felt wrong.

There was no chirping of insects or birds. Even the centipedes that made cackling noises with their feet around the cave were also silent.

My instincts kicked in as I grabbed both my spears. I went outside the cave trying to find the source of my uneasiness.

Everything felt normal except for the quiet.

Something felt extremely wrong, but what!!??

I slowly backed away inside the cave, released Greenskin, and handed him my sharpened stick as I kept the stone spear.

Greenskin was pleased as it was about to charge at me, but it soon stopped in its tracks.

It also noticed the strangeness of the area.

I stared at the trees much more closely and finally noticed the distortion of air in the area, forming the outline of a feline-like creature.

The grumble of a hungry stomach broke the silence.

I got out of the cave to make sure I won't be cornered inside the cave.

I grabbed a stone, tossing it at the creature. The stone bounced off the outline as the creature's invisibility turned off. Revealing the figure of a black Jaguar.

I turned pale as I sprinted in the opposite direction.

I could hear Greenskin and the Jaguar following suit, as I had no intentions of looking backwards.

I jumped off exposed roots as the jaguars' growl kept getting closer and closer.

Greenskin tripped, twisting its ankle, I stopped. The Jaguar was getting closer, I could abandon it or carry it behind my back.

I piggybacked greenskin running as fast as I could, the extra weight slowed me down but I still somehow managed to outpace the beast.

The Jaguar pounced at me, scratching the back of the greenskin. It yelped from the pain bawling its eyes out.

It kicked and trashed behind me making me lose my balance.

We fell into a spike pit, big enough for only me and Greenskin to fit. The Jaguar right behind our tail reached its paws out to grab us.

Its claws only manage to scratch my face.

After trying to grab us for who knows how long it circled around before leaving.

My chest heaved up and down aggressively, as I tried catching my breath.

I wanted to get out, but the thought of the Jaguar still lurking around frightened me stiff.

Night fell and the sounds of other animals were finally heard, fortunately or unfortunately.

"Do you think we should leave?" I jokingly asked Greenskin, although I got no response.

That's to be expected.

I tried to move when a sharp pain pierced my abdomen.

Looking down a wooden spike was protruding out of my stomach.

"Ahhhh!!!" I screamed.

My body started sweating profusely as I took in huge breaths of air. I turned my neck to look behind me, and Greenskin was lying lifeless. His body took all the hits.

My vision faded, and when I woke up, it was nighttime.

My body was stuck in the same position as usual. I screamed, not caring if I would alert any other unwanted attention.

"Help!! ... Help!! …"

But no one came. Thankfully I saw the place illuminated, likely from torch flames.

"Down here!!... Down here!!"

The pit got completely illuminated, and to my joy silhouettes of humans could be seen.

"We found another survivor", a male voice shouted.

Someone came down the pit through a rope, broke the spike connecting me to the ground, and slowly raised both of us out of the pit.

It was a shame Greenskin couldn't make it, and before I could thank them, my vision got fuzzy and I blacked out.

I woke up to find myself in an unfamiliar tent, sleeping on a bed of dry leaves.

I felt sad for greenskin having a moment of silence to mourn him. The moment was cut short as a person got into the tent, with joy on his face.

"Your awake!" He said with a beaming smile.
