When Kurenai finally broke free of Hidan's Genjutsu, not even a second had passed in reality. Yet to her, it felt like she had lived through three endless days and nights inside his illusion.
Three days and nights of merciless pounding—relentless, inescapable, overwhelming.
Hidan's thought process was simple: It's just Genjutsu. No consequences. So why not go wild?
The "lesson" he gave her left her body collapsing to the ground, drained of strength. Her mind was battered, her spirit exhausted, and her body trembled as if the experience had been real.
For her, the vividness of his illusion was impossible to shake. As Hidan intended, it left a deep impression.
"Hidan-nii… what happened to Kurenai-sensei? Why did she suddenly collapse like that?" Hinata's soft voice carried genuine worry, her pale eyes wide with concern.
Hidan put on a crooked grin. "Oh, uh, don't worry about it. Kurenai's just… feeling a little unwell. I'll take her back first. You three wait here—I'll be back before you know it."
His voice was calm, but his eyes glinted with mischief. He leapt lightly from Konan's back, crouched, and scooped Kurenai into his arms without hesitation.
A beauty in my arms, all thanks to a Genjutsu? Heh. Like hell I'm letting this chance slip.
Konan's lips twitched, her expression clearly saying are you kidding me? She puffed out her cheeks, silently fuming.
So the second he sees a woman in distress, he suddenly has the energy to walk on his own? What about me, huh? I carried your lazy ass half the morning!
Meanwhile, the three Genin gawked.
Kiba broke into a wicked grin, elbowing Shino. "Heh heh… bet Sensei's up to something dirty!"
Shino, in contrast, stayed stone-faced, muttering quietly. "Not my problem."
Only Hinata's eyes followed with pure worry, her little hands clutching the edge of her jacket. She truly believed Hidan was simply helping Kurenai. To her, there was no hidden motive...just kindness.
If only she knew.
......
Hidan adjusted his grip on Kurenai, ignoring the main road entirely. Instead, he veered into the shaded forest path, carrying her like some stolen treasure.
Truthfully, he had no idea where Kurenai even lived—but with her dazed from the Genjutsu, it wasn't like she could give directions anyway.
The trees rustled softly above as he strolled lazily, smirking to himself. Tch, what a lucky day. I get to play sensei, flex in front of the brats, and now I've got this fiery beauty in my arms. Kami-sama must be spoiling me.
After some time, Kurenai's body began to stir. The color slowly returned to her cheeks, her crimson eyes blinking open as her consciousness steadied. She wriggled free from his arms, brushing down her clothes with trembling hands.
"…I'll walk the rest of the way."
Her voice was quiet, almost embarrassed. Without meeting his gaze, she turned and walked off toward her home, her steps unsteady but quick, as if afraid he'd tease her again.
Her face was flushed a deep red, but whether from anger, shame, or something else entirely—only Kurenai herself knew.
Hidan chuckled under his breath, watching her retreating back disappear down the road. Heh… looks like I left one hell of an impression.
...
Teaching and "tuning" wasn't something that could be done in a single day. Hidan understood that well enough.
That was why he didn't go all-out on Kurenai just yet...today's illusion alone had carved an unforgettable scar into her heart. If nothing else, she'd be seeing him in her dreams for a long while.
And Hidan knew women. No one in this world had ever experienced the kind of twisted "lesson" he delivered.
Even now, Kurenai was left with strange feelings she couldn't name, whether they leaned toward hate or something else, even she wouldn't be able to say. Either way, she'd be back to face him again.
A swirling vortex of space opened behind Konan, and Hidan stepped out casually.
Without missing a beat, he plopped himself back onto her back, sprawled out like a lord returning to his throne. Unless he was teleporting with Kamui, this was his favorite way to travel.
And to Konan, though she would never say it aloud, this was the one thing that sometimes felt like "affection." Her master always chose her back as his resting place, after all. That counted as spoiling… didn't it?
"Yo! My adorable students, I've returned!" Hidan waved lazily from Konan's back, flashing a grin. His gaze, however, immediately found Hinata, and his eyes lingered there far longer than necessary.
Still, the three Genin showed proper courtesy. Shino, Kiba, and Hinata all bowed politely, greeting him as their teacher.
"Hmm…" Hidan smirked. "When did I get this kind of treatment? I like it." He spread his arms dramatically.
"Alright, let's do proper introductions. My name is Hidan, I'll be your amazing Sensei from now on… and this here is my personal maid, Konan."
Shino and Kiba's eyes twitched. Who doesn't know your name already? Even ramen vendors gossip about you—the lazy 'god of death' who rides around on his maid's back all day.
Unfazed, Shino spoke first. "Aburame Shino. Member of the Aburame clan. I specialize in insect control."
Next came Kiba, puffing his chest out with a grin. "Inuzuka Kiba! This here's my partner Akamaru. And someday, I'll be Hokage!"
Hidan blinked. "…Oi, oi. Hokage?"
Kiba beamed proudly. Akamaru barked in agreement, tail wagging as if to shout me too!
"…"
Hidan stared blankly at them both. Great. It's Naruto and his dog, but worse.
His brain instantly pictured the Hokage Monument one day with a giant carved dog snuggled up against Kiba's statue. Tourists visiting Konoha saying, "Oh yeah, that's the village with the dog mountain, right?"
He shivered. Kami forbid.
Shaking the image away, Hidan turned toward Hinata instead. Immediately, his mood lifted.
The girl stood fidgeting, her face tinged pink. "M-My name is… Hyūga Hinata. I… I'll be in your care. Please… p-please guide me well."
Her voice was soft as a whisper, but her earnestness shone through.
"Nice," Hidan said, giving her a bold thumbs-up.
Hinata's heart skipped, a bright smile blooming across her face. That simple gesture alone was enough to make her day.
Konan, beneath him, let out a long sigh, shaking her head. Others couldn't see it, but she knew him too well. She had lived with him for three years—there was no mistaking the gleam in his eyes.
This perverted master of mine… even with a child this innocent, he's already scheming. Unbelievable.
But Konan had long since been "tuned." Her loyalty was absolute. If this was what her master wanted, then she would simply stand by his side.
Even if she didn't like it, she'd accept it. And truth be told, Hinata's innocence was so genuine… even she couldn't bring herself to dislike the girl.
......
"Huh? What are we even going to test…?" Hidan muttered, scratching his head. His expression twisted as if he had been asked to solve the world's hardest riddle. "Konan, got any ideas?"
The truth was, the entry test after squad assignments was a tradition for Jōnin sensei. But Hidan couldn't think of a damn thing.
He couldn't just copy Kakashi's bell test either. That was lame. Worse—if Kakashi ever found out he had stolen his "legendary routine," he'd laugh himself sick.
After all, Kakashi had held a grudge against him for years, ever since catching him peeking at Icha Icha Paradise.
From then on, Hatake was always lurking, desperate to catch him in some embarrassing slip-up. But Hidan, naturally, had never been caught.
Konan tilted her head and blinked innocently. The master doesn't know… how could I? Even if she did, she'd never say it. If she acted smarter than him, she'd probably end up over his knee again. So she just kept her mouth shut, playing the role of the dutiful maid.
"My little Nan is a maid full of wisdom," Hidan thought smugly, grinning to himself.
Then his eyes lit up. "I've got it!" he shouted suddenly, startling the three Genin who had been sitting quietly.
"Our test is simple!" he declared with pride. "To hone your willpower, you'll spend the rest of the day inside my illusion. Survive that, and you pass!"
He looked immensely pleased with himself, almost patting his own back. Once they're trapped in Genjutsu, I'll be free! Birds fly in the sky, fish swim in the sea, and Hidan-sama gets to do whatever the hell he wants. Genius.
"Genjutsu!"
His Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan spun to life, its crimson pattern glowing menacingly. The wave of visual power swept across Shino, Kiba, and even Akamaru.
As for Hinata… Hidan smirked inwardly. Heh. I've got something else planned for her.
"Wait—Sensei, don't—!" Kiba yelped, eyes wide. But before he could even finish, his body slumped, dropping into a trance along with Shino and Akamaru.
In an instant, they were trapped in Hidan's crafted illusion.
Inside, they found themselves climbing endless knife mountains, wading through boiling oil pits, and being crushed under surreal tortures that weren't real but felt all too vivid.
"Perfect!" Hidan laughed. "Ninjas are supposed to endure. That's the first lesson—engrave it deep!"
