"???"
Kurenai Yuhi's expression stiffened. Was this brat seriously acting like the teacher here? Had he forgotten whose position he snatched? She was still standing right here! Did he really have the gall to be this shameless?!
Her charming face flushed red with anger, her body trembling as she barely restrained the urge to shout at him. If not for the three Genin watching nearby, and her pride as a Jōnin to leave a good impression, she might have already exploded.
The students, meanwhile, had very different reactions.
Hinata's pale eyes lit up with joy the moment Hidan winked at her. The boy she had known for years, who she thought she would hardly see anymore after graduation, was now her teacher. To her, it felt like a dream—like happiness had landed right in her lap.
But her eyes strayed, full of envy, to Konan quietly standing at Hidan's side. If only… one day… I could be as close to him as she is…
Unlike Hinata's glowing excitement, Shino's mind was calm and analytical. His shaded eyes narrowed slightly behind his glasses.
This man… the rumored "god of death." A survivor of the Uchiha massacre, an immortal body, and a wielder of the Mangekyō Sharingan. Why would someone like him… be here, playing teacher to a Genin team?
His gaze dropped lower, unimpressed. Hidan was draped lazily on Konan's back like royalty on a palanquin, too idle to even walk. Shino sighed inwardly. Unbelievable.
Kiba, on the other hand, was practically bouncing. "Holy crap, our teacher's this strong?! Heh, with him around, there's no way we'll stay weak!"
Hidan ignored all of their thoughts, gesturing lazily. "Oi, Konan. Bring it here."
Stepping forward, he breezed right past Kurenai and crouched down in front of Hinata.
"Hinata-chan, this is the chicken soup I asked Konan to make for you. Drink it while it's hot—gotta grow up strong, right?"
His tone was exaggeratedly gentle, like an older brother spoiling a child.
Hinata's face went scarlet as she accepted the bowl. She hadn't expected him to bring something just for her, let alone give it in front of everyone.
It made her shy to the point of trembling, but her heart overflowed with sweetness. So that's why he was late… he made soup for me…
Kiba and Shino both gawked.
"…Oi, what the hell is this?" Kiba muttered.
"Why only Hinata?" Shino added flatly.
They had been baking under the sun all morning, waiting half a day for this so-called teacher to show up. And Hinata got rewarded with fresh soup?!
The two boys stared daggers at Hinata as she sipped nervously. Her small shoulders hunched under their glare, but her hands only gripped the bowl tighter.
No way. This is from Hidan-nii… there's no way I'm sharing! she thought, cheeks glowing red as steam curled from the bowl.
Hidan smirked, watching her protect the soup like it was treasure. Heh. Cute. Give it a few years and she'll be ripe for picking.
"...Hidan!!"
Kurenai's voice finally burst out, two words sharp as steel. At this point she couldn't even pretend to be the elegant, mild-mannered sensei anymore. Her patience had been shredded.
Her crimson eyes burned with fury, her slightly curled black hair fluttering in the hot wind. Her hands slowly came together, fingers weaving through seals.
"Illusion: Tree Binding Death!"
Her body blurred like smoke and vanished, leaving only the faint scent of flowers in the air.
Hinata, Kiba, and Shino gasped as the Genjutsu flared. In Kurenai's perspective, she had already trapped Hidan—his body bound to a massive tree, arms and legs immobilized.
"Hmph." She sneered inwardly. Let's see you act cocky now. Struggle all you want—you're at my mercy.
But she had overlooked one detail.
The moment she cast the illusion, Konan and the three students had all disappeared from her vision, leaving only Hidan before her. And Hidan… though seemingly trapped, wasn't panicking.
Instead, bound against the tree, he was looking straight at her—smirking.
A chill prickled down her spine.
In reality, Hidan stood unfazed, crimson eyes gleaming with the Mangekyō Sharingan. He had caught her Genjutsu the instant it was cast, and without her realizing, reversed it back onto her.
"Not bad, Kurenai…" he murmured with an amused grin. "But if you really wanted my attention, all you had to do was ask."
He chuckled darkly, watching as she unknowingly sank deeper into his illusion.
This time… I'll make sure she never forgets me.
