After dealing with Sasuke, Hidan appeared in the office of Sarutobi Hiruzen.
The same strange and unpredictable space-warping entrance.
The same overly familiar scene.
Hidan looked awkwardly at the old man behind the desk.
There was the Third Hokage, pipe set aside, savoring his copy of Icha Icha Paradise.
For a moment, Hidan didn't even know what to say.
The Hokage, of course, had already noticed the sudden disturbance.
He lifted his head and fixed Hidan with a flat, unamused stare.
"How many times have I told you already?! When you come into my office—you knock! On! The! Door!"
Sarutobi suddenly roared, beard bristling.
Couldn't he have one moment of peace in his old age? Every single time this lunatic appeared, he caught him red-handed with that little yellow book in hand.
Wasn't this far too much?!
"Oh… Ahem, don't be so nervous, old man! I'm just not used to it, that's all!"
Hidan coughed a few times, trying to laugh it off.
But deep down he was baffled.
For three straight years, every time he barged in, the Hokage had been reading the same damn book.
One book, non-stop, for three years—wouldn't anyone get tired of it?
Hidan even started wondering to himself.
No wonder the Third Hokage had aged so fast.
Could it be… he'd indulged in too many of these "little books" and burned through his lifespan early?
"What is it this time? Hurry up and say it. It's the middle of the night—I'd like to get some sleep!"
Sarutobi barked impatiently, waving his pipe.
After three years of this nonsense, he was almost used to it… but still, not once had this brat ever bothered to knock on the door.
"Hey, old man… what do you think about me becoming a teacher for one of the genin squads? I'm bored hanging around Konoha. Why not find something to do, eh? What do you say?"
Hidan grinned, finally laying out his reason for coming.
"Pffft—!"
Sarutobi nearly choked, spraying tea all over his desk.
Worst of all, it splattered across his copy of Icha Icha Paradise.
Panicking, he snatched the book up and began frantically drying it with his robe, as though it were some priceless treasure.
Hidan just stared, completely dumbfounded.
"Let me say this… what the hell are you thinking? With the way you act, and you want to become a teacher?!"
Sarutobi glared, his voice heavy with disbelief.
Had Hidan really lost his mind?
Hidan blinked, then frowned.
"Crazy? Me? You're the one acting crazy! What's so strange about it? With the way I act every day, sure, I'm not 'normal,' but doesn't that make me perfect for the job?"
The Third Hokage rubbed his temple.
This was the same man who was too lazy to even walk on his own, constantly making Konan carry him around like some kind of servant.
And that guy wanted to be a teacher?
Wouldn't the kids just end up lazier than him, without even half his strength? What kind of disaster would that be?
At this rate, the parents of the new generation would probably band together to file a formal complaint just to kick him out of the Academy.
"Hey! What's with that look? I'm serious!"
Hidan snapped, glaring right back at Hiruzen's doubtful eyes.
"With my strength, you're telling me I can't handle a team?!"
What was so wrong with that? He was already the "master" of his own little maid, wasn't he? That was perfectly normal in his eyes!
Hiruzen let out a heavy sigh, still staring at him.
He actually wants to be a ninja teacher?
No matter how he looked at it… Hidan just didn't seem like the type at all.
Still, after a long sigh, the Hokage gave in.
After all, in the past three years, Hidan had indeed made plenty of contributions to Konoha.
For someone like him, this request wasn't too outrageous.
"This is the list of teams for this year's graduates. Except for Team Seven, you can pick whichever you want. But I'll have to step in and explain...since the original jōnin teachers have already been assigned. You'll need to apologize to them. Honestly… I really don't know what debt I owe you, kid."
Sarutobi grumbled as he pulled a list from a folder on his desk and handed it over.
As expected, Team Seven was Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura—personally assigned to Kakashi.
That decision carried heavy meaning, and of course Hidan wasn't allowed to meddle there.
The other groups included:
Team Ten: Nara Shikamaru, Yamanaka Ino, Akimichi Choji.
Team Eight: Hyuga Hinata, Inuzuka Kiba, Aburame Shino.
Team Guy: Rock Lee, Hyuga Neji, Tenten.
As for the other miscellaneous genin, Hidan didn't spare them a second glance.
His eyes froze on one name—Hinata Hyuga.
He stared at it for a long while before making up his mind.
Without hesitation, he chose the group where the little Hyuga girl was assigned.
Then his gaze slid further down the list… landing on their original jōnin leader: Kurenai Yuhi.
A slow smile crept across his face, growing warmer...almost gentle... actually no, it's was completely wicked.
Another beauty.
A mature one, too.
And in this timeline, she wasn't even married to Asuma yet.
Sarutobi Hiruzen caught that weird smile and immediately felt something was off.
But he had already given his word, and it was far too late to take it back.
He could only hope Hidan wouldn't cause any major trouble.
"I've decided. I'll take this group."
Hidan smiled at the Hokage, while in his heart he sneered:
Don't blame me, old man, when I steal your future daughter-in-law.
Hiruzen glanced at the team Hidan had pointed to and felt secretly relieved.
For a moment, he had been worried Hidan would try to meddle with Team Seven.
But it was clear now—Naruto and Sasuke didn't interest him at all.
This man's focus was elsewhere. Pretty little lolis… or a beautiful kunoichi.
Everything else was irrelevant to him.
"Since you've chosen, fine. Start tomorrow. I'll make the arrangements."
Sarutobi waved him off, signaling him to leave.
The sooner the office was quiet, the sooner he could get back to his book.
"Then I'll be going… Oh, right! Old man, maybe cut down on those H books. Just look at how old you've gotten lately."
Hidan threw the jab over his shoulder with a grin before slipping out.
Behind him, Hiruzen sat fuming silently, veins bulging on his forehead, pipe shaking in his hand.
Back in his small courtyard, Hidan tiptoed toward the bedroom.
He carefully slid the door open without making a sound.
Inside, Konan was curled up on the small bed, sleeping peacefully.
A faint, sweet smile lingered on her lips, as though she was lost in some happy dream.
