The next morning, Richard was colder than ice. He avoided her, barely spoke, and left early. Jenna couldn't understand why — until she overheard Diana talking to him in the garden.
"I only told the truth," Diana said sweetly. "You married her because of a loan, didn't you? People deserve to know."
"Stay out of my marriage," Richard warned.
But Diana's smile widened. "Marriage? You don't even love her, Richard. You're just protecting your pride."
Jenna stepped back, heart shattering. Maybe Diana was right. Maybe there had never been warmth — only pity.
She turned away quietly before either of them saw her tears.
