(PHASE ONE: BLIND THE EYES)
(SANDRA'S POV)
One of the drones drop out of the sky like a wounded bird.
One second it's a faint mechanical whine slicing through the jungle air, the next it's spiraling down in a mess of sparks and shattered rotors, crashing somewhere beyond the treeline. I don't even look up. One of my guys already handled it clean.
Another blip lights up on my tablet. Another's coming from another direction.
"Two o'clock," I mutter
One of my guys fires a suppressed shot and then the second drone dies too.
I crouch behind a thick tree trunk with my tablet balanced against my thigh, fingers flying over the screen. Lines of code scroll fast, security protocols unraveling one by one. Maxwell Chen paid obscene amounts of money for this island's defenses. Military-grade encryption. Redundant systems. Fail-safes stacked on top of fail-safes.
Honestly? It's cute.
The generator icon flashes yellow.
Then red.
Then the island goes dark.
