The Squad 6 members lost Kisuke Urahara during the chase. They had to return in failure and ask the SRDI for help.
When Urahara's wanted order was issued, Mayuri was the happiest.
Mayuri was actively using technology to track Kisuke Urahara's location.
Kuchiki Sōjun stood nearby, waiting anxiously.
This was the first time Sora had seen him in such a state.
He was known for being gentle. Even among common Shinigami, his reputation was as good as Jūshirō Ukitake's.
"Don't worry. Urahara is a bit wild, but he's not an evil person. He won't hurt Miss Aoba," Sora said, patting Sōjun's shoulder to comfort him.
"I know." Sōjun took a deep breath. "That's not what I'm worried about."
He knew Kuchiki Aoba was safe.
The official story was that Urahara had kidnapped her. But Sōjun knew the truth: Aoba had left with Urahara willingly.
And, it was highly likely that Aoba was the inside woman for Urahara's theft of the Kuchiki vault!
The Kuchiki vault isn't easy to enter. It's protected by layers of spells.
Only someone with Kuchiki blood can enter the vault without breaking the protection.
After the theft, the Kuchiki clan checked the spells. A clansman had just reported to him that the spells were not broken!
In other words, without Aoba leading him, Urahara couldn't have possibly invaded the vault so easily!
This news was a huge blow to Sōjun.
Even if they caught Urahara and brought Aoba back, Aoba would still have to face the clan's punishment.
In the Kuchiki family, stealing from the clan vault is a major crime. The punishment required is something Aoba would find hard to bear.
Sōjun had to retrieve the stolen treasure, but he didn't want his sister to return and be punished. He was completely torn.
"I've tracked his Reishi residue. He fled to Rukongai. We have to hurry, don't let him get away!" Mayuri pulled up data on a Reishi screen.
"Urahara and Kuchiki Aoba must be wearing invisibility cloaks, hiding their Spiritual Pressure. Amazing your instrument can still find their residue," Sora said, rubbing his chin.
"Everything leaves a trace. It's just a matter of degree."
"I upgraded the instrument's precision, so it can detect finer traces."
"Captain, Urahara knows many of the SRDI's core technologies and secrets. We must arrest him immediately!"
Mayuri even volunteered to lead the team to capture Urahara.
"Then let's go together." Sora nodded.
He already knew from Sōsuke Aizen that Urahara had left Soul Society.
But Urahara was still from Squad 12. With Sōjun leading the chase, Sora had to put on a show and cooperate with Squad 6.
After a while, the group followed the trail Mayuri was tracking and found Urahara's private lab.
"This is it!" Mayuri seemed excited. "The Reishi traces are dense here. This is a place Urahara visited often!"
Using the instrument, Mayuri found the hidden Reishi spells in the dead grove.
"Don't move!" Mayuri stopped Sōjun, who was about to rush in. "There are traps!"
"Then I'll have to ask you to handle it, 3rd Seat Mayuri." Sōjun's eye twitched, and he stopped.
"3rd Seat? Ohohoho..." Mayuri cackled. "...Maybe it will be Lieutenant soon!"
After what Urahara did, there was no way he could stay Lieutenant. That meant Mayuri would be promoted.
Mayuri took a can of liquid from his sleeve and sprayed it into the air.
The liquid hit the empty space but seemed to stick to something.
The hidden Reishi spells quickly appeared. The grove was covered in them, making it look like a spider's web.
"That guy has some skill, hiding them so well." Mayuri grinned. "A pity. He still can't fool me."
Sōjun was shocked when he saw the dense spells. If he had forced his way in, the price would have been high.
"I see." Mayuri observed for a moment. "There's a hidden space here. But these spells are probably linked to it."
"If we break them, it will trigger a self-destruct trap inside."
"So what do we do?" Sōjun asked.
"Simple. We disable them without breaking them." Mayuri felt like he was competing directly with Urahara, and he grew more excited.
A moment later, Mayuri used various methods and disabled all the traps.
"Everyone, you can come in."
Mayuri invited them in, as if it were his own house.
"You stay outside," Sōjun said to the Squad 6 members behind him.
Sora, Sōjun, Mayuri, and Akon, the four of them, entered the hidden Reishi space.
When Sōjun entered and saw it was empty, he was secretly relieved.
He was more worried about his sister being punished than about the stolen treasure.
"Looks like they've already left Soul Society." Mayuri looked disappointed.
He knew they probably wouldn't catch Urahara, but he was still disappointed. He had gotten the news too late.
Urahara left in a hurry. He didn't pack up much, only taking the most important research materials, tools, and data.
"He left so much behind." Mayuri sneered. "Heh. If it were me, I'd have blown this place up before leaving."
"What's that?" Sora saw something on the wall and raised an eyebrow.
"A countdown? Not good!" Mayuri's face changed when he saw the timer on the wall.
The time on it was running out fast.
Worst of all, there were only two seconds left!
