Outcast stroked Kanna's hair, her expression full of relief.
"That's good. I was worried you'd get lonely staying in the room by yourself for too long. With this personal terminal, you won't be too bored in the room."
After sitting for a while, Outcast also left Kanna's dormitory. After all, she still had a lot of work to do, and seeing how Kanna's eyes kept drifting to the personal terminal, it was clear that the videos on the terminal were far more attractive than an old woman like herself.
Over the next few days, Kanna lived the life of a lazy dragon: lying on the bed, watching videos after eating, sleeping when tired of watching, and continuing to watch videos if there was no food after waking up.
A week later, Kanna finally emerged from her room. After spending a full week in her dormitory, she felt an indescribable discomfort all over, wanting to move her body but feeling soft and weak.
Just then, her communicator suddenly emitted a rapid beeping sound.
Kanna was not unfamiliar with this sound. It was an emergency assembly bell from the Control Room. When Rhodes Island's management AI, Ptilopsis, received an emergency assembly order issued by Kal'tsit or Amiya, it would automatically and immediately scan all on-duty and idle Operators throughout the ship. These Operators would then receive this bell, and if they intended to accept the mission, they could go directly to the Control Room to receive it.
Generally, such emergency assembly missions offered richer rewards, but their difficulty was also much higher than ordinary security escort missions.
Kanna had actually been quite interested in these emergency missions before, but because she hadn't formed her own team and was wary of Kal'tsit, she hadn't qualified to participate in emergency missions until after she went to Iberia with Kal'tsit.
This qualification was one of the rewards Kal'tsit gave Kanna after returning from Iberia.
Thinking that she had nothing to do, she decided to check it out. What if the mission was interesting or just right for her to practice her skills? Wouldn't that be wonderful.
When she arrived at the Control Room, Kal'tsit was explaining the mission requirements to the assembled Operators.
"Just half an hour ago, Rhodes Island received a signal from Rosmontis's squad. They are trapped by an unidentified armed group in a safe house on a wasteland about 150 kilometers from us.
They contacted Rhodes Island using the safe house's communicator.
Currently, the enemy's numbers are unknown, but they are fully equipped. From the intelligence, their lineup includes Casters, Crossbowmen, and Shieldguards, suggesting an organized group.
Subsequent attempts to contact the safe house have been met with no response, suggesting their communication has been blocked by the enemy.
Therefore, this is very likely a malicious attack targeting Rhodes Island Operators.
I need participants to be 120% vigilant. Upon reaching the destination, try to contact Rosmontis's squad first to see if anyone is still alive.
Then, cooperate with Rosmontis's squad to eliminate all the invading enemies. However, if possible, capture the enemy leader. We need to find out where the enemies came from through them."
One could hear the anger in Kal'tsit's voice. Rosmontis's squad was a team that had endured many hardships. From Miria to Kelvin County, they hadn't participated in too many missions, but they frequently encountered tough battles. This mission was finally supposed to be easier, but they were attacked by an unknown armed force on their way back.
After listening to Kal'tsit's words, Kanna finally had time to look around the room. It was Misery and his squad. It seemed they were the Operators who had accepted this mission.
"Can you take me with you?"
Just as Misery accepted the mission and was about to leave, Kanna's voice came from the side.
Misery narrowed his eyes and turned to look at Kal'tsit not far away. It was clear she must have heard Kanna's words as well. While he didn't have much objection to bringing Kanna along, and even found the little one quite agreeable because of Outcast, he knew Kanna's importance to Rhodes Island. He would never secretly take her away without Kal'tsit's approval.
Kal'tsit had, of course, heard Kanna's words and initially wanted to stop her. However, she then remembered Kanna's good relationship with Rosmontis. Kanna had just been released from confinement and, upon hearing that her friend was attacked, would certainly want to help. Refusing Kanna in such a situation would not be a good choice.
After a moment of thought, Kal'tsit nodded to Misery. "Take Kanna with you, but this rescue mission must be led by Misery. Kanna, you are not to act on your own."
After speaking to Misery, Kal'tsit stared at Kanna and said.
"Okay! Rosmontis is in danger, and time waits for no one. I'll go to the Engineering Department to get my weapons, and we'll meet on the rooftop deck."
Kanna finished speaking and rushed towards Vulcan's workshop.
Misery didn't object to Kanna's departure; instead, he led the team towards the top floor of Rhodes Island.
Since it was an emergency rescue, they certainly wouldn't choose to go by land. Rhodes Island had transport helicopters, but they were rarely used.
However, in such a critical situation, helicopter support from the air was clearly much faster than driving.
After boarding the helicopter, the group sped towards their target.
Misery unfolded the map of the safe house that Kal'tsit had given him and began to assign tasks to the team members.
After finishing the assignments, he looked at Kanna. He understood Kanna's strength, but they had never acted together, so he wanted to see what choices she would make on her own.
Feeling Misery's gaze, Kanna pointed to the main entrance of the safe house and said, "Since Misery, you've chosen to create a diversion around the perimeter, I'll go for a central breakthrough! Please give me a new communicator and drop me directly at this location. After I land, I'll head straight towards the safe house. If I find Rosmontis, I'll have her re-establish contact through the new communicator."
After listening, Misery nodded, not doubting Kanna's ability to complete the task.
"Your method is certainly worth considering, but the area near the safe house's main entrance will definitely be the most intense combat zone. For safety, the helicopter won't get too close to the ground. After you arrive above, wait a moment. Once we start attacking from the outside, then you can act."
Misery's idea was that the helicopter appearing at the central point would surely attract the attention of both sides. Seeing the reinforcements arrive, Rosmontis's side would regain morale, and with the enemy's attention focused on the helicopter, they could seize the opportunity to launch a surprise attack from the outside. Moreover, the sudden arrival of the helicopter could temporarily slow down the enemy's offensive.
