Chapter 13 - Chapter Twelve.

"Killing Godzilla with the power of the sea... This is the outline of Operation Sea God."

However, Akitsu couldn't help but have doubts about this plan. A deep-sea fish tries so hard to escape from Godzilla that it can't adapt to the water pressure and ends up floating. He is a creature that belongs to the deep sea.

"He came from the sea. He's fine with the pressure of the deep sea."

Noda immediately objects.

"According to calculations, 2.5 million atmospheres per square meter will be applied after about 35 seconds. Even organisms that can normally survive in the deep sea cannot withstand such a sudden change in pressure."

Shikishima stood up.

"So you can definitely kill Godzilla?"

Noda was unable to give an immediate answer.

"There are so many unknowns about Godzilla's ecology that we have no choice but to make predictions and take countermeasures."

The participants were once again shocked by his lack of confidence.

"However, since bombardment is not effective, this is the best solution..."

"Can you kill it? Can't you?"

Noda answered honestly and with the sincerity of a scientist.

"...I can't say for sure."

When Shikishima heard this, he immediately kicked the chair and tried to leave. Noda called out from behind him.

"There's a possibility. Shiki-san, please listen to the end."

Shikishima reluctantly sat back in his chair.

"Then give me a detailed explanation."

The slides began to flow at Noda's direction. There was an illustration of how to tow an energy cable with a cylinder attached to two ships and wrap it around Godzilla.

"In this way, the two destroyers wrap the cable around Godzilla. Many CFC gas cylinders are attached to this cable in advance. At the same time, multiple 46cm cannonballs from the Yamato explode underfoot, creating a huge bubble. After creating this, a burst of chlorofluorocarbon gas is released. Godzilla accelerates as it falls into the space created by the explosion, loses its buoyancy as it is enveloped in bubbles, and is pulled into the ocean 2,500 meters deep.

"So if that doesn't work..."

"We have a preliminary operation. Everyone, please look at the courtyard." When the participants gathered near the window, they could see several workers and a box-shaped machine placed in the courtyard.

When Noda gave a signal to the worker, a large yellow rubber boat-shaped balloon spewed out from inside with an explosive sound.

A man in work clothes next to Noda began to explain.

"I'm Itagaki from Toyo Balloon. What you just saw is an inflatable flotation device inspired by the flotation device installed on old naval aircraft... It's a so-called inflatable flotation device that obtains buoyancy by blowing carbon dioxide gas into an air sac. It's a floating bladder. Once Godzilla has landed on the ocean floor, it will be pulled up to the surface all at once."

"Even if it were to withstand the ultra-high pressure, I don't think it would be able to withstand the tremendous decompression that immediately follows. There is certainly no guarantee that it will be defeated. But for now, we have no choice but to do what we can."

The participants were nervous, as if they were undecided on their position. There was no doubt that this was a very dangerous operation. However, it is also certain that our abilities are in demand.

And above all, if they participate in this story, they will be able to board the ship again.

"It is with great sadness that I ask all those who survived the last war to undertake such a life-threatening mission once again. However, I want you to understand. Now that we can't rely on either the Japanese government or the U.S. military, we are the only ones who can carve out a future for this country."

At that moment, a man stood up. Then, with a thoughtful expression on his face, he said, trying to squeeze it out.

"I can't. I have a family. It's not just me. Most of the people here are like that."

In response to the man's words, the other men stood up one after another.

"Why are we the only ones who have to play the poor lottery?"

"We don't want it to turn out like it did during the war."

Hotta answered with a bitter expression.

"Quiet. Everyone, please listen carefully. This is not an order. Those who have individual circumstances may be asked to return. We have no right to stop them."

When they told that they can go home, they become unable to move. A heavy silence filled the venue. One of the men turned away, bowed, and quickly walked out. One after another, the men trot out. As the atmosphere became even heavier, one man raised his hand and asked.

"This doesn't mean you'll definitely die."

Noda answered with a force that seemed to cling to him.

"Of course"

"Then it's much better than during the war."

A small laugh broke out among the remaining men. Another man also stood up, scratching his head.

"Someone has to do it, right? Then it can't be helped. The ship can't move without us."

"Okay, let's do it together."

The atmosphere of the venue regained its brightness. Everyone was fed up.

"Thank you everyone"

Everyone nodded as Hotta bowed his head. Shinseimaru members, including Akitsu, gather at a bar on the black market to drink. As Godzilla's evacuation progressed, the black market became noticeably less popular.

"But I can't believe you're the architect of such a big plan."

"I've had encounters with real Godzillas. I guess that's why I was able to make the decision."

"Then it's the same reason why we were called."

Mizushima, who was happy to be called even though he was not a former naval officer, poured sake into Noda's cup.

"So, is he stepping on you when he comes back?"

"It's safe to say that with the recent landing, Tokyo has been added to Godzilla's territory. In the worst case scenario, I think it could land again within a week."

"...so quickly"

"I heard they distributed buoys to detect radioactivity all over the place."

Akitsu, whose face turned a little red, sneered at Noda.

"We can't just rely on sight to find him."

"In the first place, is he even going to come to me and say, "Hello?" when I'm setting up a trap."

"That's it, isn't it?"

Akitsu panicked at that answer.

"Oi, is this a no-brainer?"

"Please don't make fun of me. I'm thinking about it. There's an underwater loudspeaker that was used to deceive acoustic torpedoes during the war. It plays Godzilla's voice that was recorded during the previous landing."

"Godzilla's voice?"

"Yes, Godzilla senses that another creature has invaded its territory, so it should come after you..."

"It's supposed to be... it's just a mistake. In the first place, is there some type of flotation device? I don't think it will work if you use that to pull yourself up."

"Then what should we do?"

"Yes Yes Yes!"

Mizushima happily raised his hand as if he had come up with something.

"How about pulling it up with a destroyer?"

That idea was rejected by Noda.

"Don't be stupid. Godzilla's estimated weight is 20,000 tons. The thrust of two destroyers is definitely not enough."

"Well, in short, your strategy is full of holes."

"If you say that, please come up with an alternative."

Shikishima, who had been silent for a long time, opened his mouth.

"Noda-san, do you have the fighter jet's tether somewhere?"

Akitsu felt uncomfortable with those words.

"Fighter plane?"

"Even if he lands, if we shoot him and make him angry, we can lead him to Sagami Bay."

"All of them were burnt during disarmament, right? Japanese fighter planes."

Mizushima showed off his knowledge as a former military boy. Noda was also skeptical of that opinion.

"Even if there was, that guy would spit out heat rays. Guiding an aircraft would be a life-threatening job."

"It doesn't matter if you risk your life or not. Fighter planes can move much more easily than ships." Akitsu, who had already drunk a lot of alcohol, glared at Shikishima.

"You mean you go out of your way to get shot down? Aren't you desperate?"

"Are you drunk?"

"Nori-chan's talent is the only one who should be able to defeat him."

"You don't seem to like it?"

"It's too late now."

Akitsu grabbed Shikishima around the chest and pulled him closer. The decanter on the table was knocked over and fell down. The sound of cracking pottery echoed inside the store.

"Why didn't you marry Nori-chan before something like this happened? You knew how she felt, right?"

Shikishima shook off his hand and groaned.

"I wanted to do that too."

"Then why?"

Shikishima thought for a while about whether he should say it or not, but he decided that he wanted the members of Shinsei Maru to listen.

"...My...war is not over."

Realizing the depth of the darkness surrounding Shikishima, the Shinsei Maru members fell silent. A few days later, after receiving Noda's report, Shikishima flew his motorcycle to the ruins of a hangar in the suburbs.

"I heard there was a fighter jet?"

"Yes, but it's quite special..."

At Noda's signal, his assistants removed the cloth from the object in front of them. Amidst the rising dust was a strangely shaped fighter plane.

The official began to explain.

"Shinden," a local fighter aircraft developed at the end of the war. Designed specifically for one-hit-and-run attacks to bring down B-29s, it has a planned maximum speed of over 400 knots, is equipped with a canard, is exceptionally heavily armed with four 30mm guns, and is an innovative model that incorporates a number of new features. It's the aircraft."

Noda said to Shikishima, who was looking at the strange-looking fighter plane for the first time in amazement.
