Kurt had come out of the Well room, from the hidden door and was in the throne room before long. As he was walking out and around he saw Sara, who walked right up to him and slapped him in the face.
"What the hell was that for?" said Kurt rubbing his cheek.
"What the hell were you thinking? The plan was for you to run too, not fight the damn thing. You could have died, you idiot," she slapped him again.
"What was that one for then?"
"For not telling me how fucking awesome being a champion feels. You were hiding this." She then gave him a big hug, "I'm so glad you're okay. Don't ever do that again okay, I was worried sick, I thought I would never see you again."
"I wasn't hiding anything, I barely understood what happened."
"Well you went flying through the damn forest and started fighting that damn vile thing whatever it was."
"I was calling it a Horror Rabbit in my head, I think it translates that way now I don't know how even that translation spell on us works really. But it was seriously getting in my way, it was super focused on not letting me out for some reason."
"Not gonna argue that name."
"So what happened, when did Layla get there?"
"I don't know, we waited for you after we left the forest. After a bit we decided that we needed to get reinforcements to go after you, because we couldn't handle that thing. And you were here by the time we got here somehow."
"Somehow?"
"Well actually," she grabbed Kurt arm, and he felt like he was being pushed but in a direction that he couldn't identify that wasn't there, until he felt it, not up down, left right, forward or back, but perpendicular to them all. And ended up back looking at the Horror Rabbit again. "Apparently when they link or something they can instantly travel between each other's wells, and I guess we can too." looking at the mutilated corpse of the Horror rabbit. "Yeah we should get on cleaning that thing up."
Kurt was looking around with a bit of disbelief, then tried to move in the direction again, and was back near where he left. Sara appeared too. "That was surprisingly easy."
"Yeah I know what you mean, I could do it as soon as they basically did that to me. So I guess Layla came and got you, and you've been wherever they've been taking care of you. Looks to have worked though, I saw some of that battle, there was no way you looked like this by the end of it."
"No way at all, I was beaten close to death, I got the damn thing in the end."
"I saw. I guess," she gave an annoyed grunt looking away, "that makes you sort of a badass."
"Sort of?"
"Don't make me say it again, you idiot."
"Anything else?"
"Well that other Faye, Mary, she's a bit different."
"I'd say that too."
"But, I have these like plant powers now, a general command of trees, not very good at it. The tentacles are still way more useful, but they are a lot stronger now. I'm a lot stronger now, you know champion to champion how it is."
"Yeah maybe I should drink from that fountain."
"Wait, what do you mean? There is only one fountain here, the one in the main room. Is that why you have all that water stuff?," smacking her head, "of course. There's another one somewhere, the main one right, that's why y'all hid it. That was where you were this whole time. You could have told me, I thought boys and girls had different effects, or the champion thing or something stupid like that."
"It honestly never came up, things have been moving fast. I never had a reason to go back before now."
"That's true, the carriage is all set up, by the way, I actually just got back from it. I even have some contacts now at the stables, finding a driver won't be difficult, honestly we should start packing it up, they were able to leave it near Jacob's. Near enough, I didn't want Arther to really notice it."
"Yeah I could do with a place that doesn't have giant monsters trying to eat me."
"The problem is things have moved so fast, we never actually decided where we are going. I know we want to be mobile, but I can't just hire a guy to sit around."
"Someplace far from the clans, or on the way to a place like that. We don't want another Arthur coming, I don't care all that much since I think I'll be on this side mostly."
"Yeah, let's say Clarksville, that will give us some options on the next place as well, it's not a big place. Plus, I have a few people that might be in that town, and Layla said we should keep the trips short, it's only a day."
"Sounds good to me."
"Want to hear the best part?
"What?"
"They are going to make a whole damn castle or garrison thing at the other well, and it's gonna be like mine, as the guardian or whatever, I don't need a house anymore, I'm gonna have a whole manor."
"That's the best part."
"Well someone never even asked about it." Glaring at Kurt.
"I…I" Kurt had never talked with Layla about Sara's living arrangements like he agreed to. "I'm sorry, you're getting a manor instead?"
Sara held back a laugh, "okay, okay."
"Wait, doesn't that make me your boss."
"Umm, I'm not sure how the chain of command works."
"No, I think it is fairly clear which Champion and Faye are on top. I definitely don't see Mary trying to say otherwise."
"Whatever, like it matters what we are doing."
"What are we doing?"
"Getting fabulously wealthy of course."
That was still going to be true, it was actually getting easier and easier by the day to find something, and now there was that whole forest opened up. And it wasn't just that, Kurt had started thinking that there was some more stuff the population here could do as well, it seemed like furniture was easy for them to make, there was no reason they couldn't sell that as well in the future. The gnomes did seem busy but eventually they would run out of stuff to do setting up the places. This was easily done actually as one side of the gate had much better technology, and the other was practically fields of goldmines, trade would be simple for both sides to feel like they were making out, with a generous cut for himself and Sara. They also didn't really have any bills other than the carriage rides, and if they needed to rent a spot to put it, which wouldn't always be necessary and if they started making good contacts not at all.
Mary had found the two, and floated her way towards them, "There you are, Princess Layla sends her regards, and is glad to hear you are well."
"Oh Hi Mary, we were just talking about what we are going to do when we go," said Sara.
"Go? Go, where?"
"Just back to our side for a bit, we will be back of course."
"Your side?"
"Of the gate."
"The gate? What gate?"
"To our world."
"Are you not from this world?" said Mary, "Is that where you just were, it was a strange feeling."
"Did you not know?"
"I thought you lived here, and were just some strange creature from far away, Faye are not usually very well traveled. There are many animals I haven't seen or heard of. You do look a lot like Faye too. But I've never even heard about travel between worlds, I have been sort of a shut in though. Is that why you're so…and how do you do it?"
"What do you mean, there's a gate Layla made," said Kurt.
"Layla made it? Not one of you two? And to your world? I'm sorry none of that is making much sense to me."
"Guess that explains why I don't have one," said Sara.
"Have one?"
"Well, I hadn't really thought of it but, Kurt has one, I'm a guardian now, but I guess you can't make one if you've never heard of one."
"I'd love to see if that's possible," Mary said, panning her head between the two of them. "I'm sorry Lady Sara, I wouldn't even know what to do, I've never heard of Faye making a gate, with permission we have that step between wells, that's rare even, but that's about it. I guess sometimes a spring will do something, they are sometimes even a mystery to us."
They didn't see the problem with the request. It was really right down stairs, and when they got there Mary had the same reaction as the Shaman, even Mary the Faye didn't see, sense or realize anything at all was at the gate's location. She even floated through a few times, and nothing happened.
"I have no idea, I'm sorry Lady Sara. I thought maybe if I saw it I could maybe copy it, or attach something, but I…I still haven't seen it. But it's right there isn't it, how peculiar. Her majesty's powers are truly remarkable, it's not even in the other plane that I can tell. There is simply nothing there to even try to copy."
"So who made the other gates?"
"There are other gates? Is that how you got here?"
"No l, I was….summoned originally," said Kurt."
"Summoned? Like a golem? But you are alive…what you are saying is not making much sense to me, I'm sorry. Faye can't summon other living creatures, golems are more of an extension of one's power they are not alive. Actually Lady Sara should eventually be able to summon a tree golem, with some practice, possibly several with enough time."
"Wait really?" said Sara.
"I wouldn't think it would be impossible, you would need to actually practice those powers, and not just the tentacle thing, it's a difficult process to control. I can probably help you. You're a little young for a guardian though, so I wouldn't rush it, the more you use the easier everything becomes."
"So what happened to me?"
"I have no idea about Lord Kurt," said Mary.
"Wait, Lord Kurt?" said Sara.
"He is her majesty's Champion."
"And what are we, nothing?"
"Umm, this situation is unfamiliar to me, are there other more appropriate titles? I was trying to be respectful." said Mary.
"How about we just stick to Sir Kurt and Lady Sara, or drop them all together," said Kurt.
"You're no fun Kurt," said Sara, "I gotta think about this."
