Kurt awoke in a familiar pool submerged in its pink waters, I have to stop ending my fights like this he thought. He was alive at least, had won, just barely. Even the thoughts he was having seemed eerily familiar. Deja Vu, or just history repeating itself? Thinking about what had happened. Was that Layla? Is that how I got back here? He began to rise out of the pool, the fountain's structure was bigger than he remembered, it was also moving, it was hard to explain, or even determine, its exact shape any more. It swirled and made intricate patterns, mesmerizing in a way, it was red though, pink waters with a red fountain.
"Ohh you're awake" Kurt turned to realize it was Mary, and gave a shocked reaction. Did that all really happen? "I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you, My Lord."
"What are you doing here?" Kurt was still a bit groggy.
"Making sure you're alright of course, her majesty has things to do, she was here for a long time though. And…," she got down on one need, "Lord Kurt, I must apologize for my transgressions against you."
"Huh?"
"My champion, he hurt you, those wounds, the reason you are here in this state, I am deeply sorry for what happened," she was still kneeling with her head down shaking, "It was completely in the wrong, it was my fault, my mistake, I beg for your forgiveness."
"What about the others?"
"The others? Ohhh the ones that were with you? Yes they are all okay as well, I have even provided them with more rams at her majesty's request. The goblins seem very pleased."
"Yeah, Joe wanted a Rider Hawk."
"I can provide one for him as well, if you wish, sir. I don't have many, just one nest, but you can have them, just say the word, in fact it is done, Shaman Joe shall have one, I will make sure of it. I will give your entire party the most worthy mounts I can provide. But I must inform the princess of your awakening, she was adamant about being informed as soon as possible. There are clothes here, you can take your time and no one will dare disturb you. I am told this is not the first time you have woken up like this. Let's hope this is the last time," have a crooked smile towards Kurt, she seemed sincere but something about her was off. Kurt had a bad feeling that this was not going to be the last time he woke up like this.
"Get up, stop with all the kneeling, save that for Layla or something, what did she do to you?"
"Do to me, sir?
"You did try to kill me, then suddenly changed when Layla got there."
"I saw the errors of my ways sir, the divine right of our Princess."
"The, what?"
"It's hard to explain, we don't exist in the same way as you, if you saw anything at all of what really was happening I would be surprised. She showed me her grace, and I was in, I am in awe. Hour words, are not sufficent." Kurt then realized the spell actually wasn't translating; she was speaking the human tongue, mostly, "But do you not feel it as well, sir? I assumed as her champion you would also feel it and as to why you were so strong."
The only thing Kurt could think of was just the feeling of the well's power within him, it did feel good there was no denying that, very much better than the well he had used previously. In fact he felt even better than he remembered, stronger, his mana was exceeding it max before, Kurt assumed this had to do with going back into the well's waters, immediate after effects. But it could be described as euphoric sometimes. It was weaker than whatever he was pulling out during his fight with the Horror Rabbit, he felt he would need to get into another battle flow, a clarity he could quite remember but knew he'd accomplished, but still stronger than he was before at base level. Was it that? That feeling was nothing short of incredible, words barely described it. The power he had tapped into was what she was talking about, was that it?
"And so what you…"started Kurt.
"Yes, my Lord, I am her majesty's servant, I wouldn't have it any other way. She is so magnificent, isn't she?" She had these puppy dog eyes when she spoke of Layla, " And of course your servant as well."
"Mine?"
"Of course, I must say I am her majesty's servant first, but I wouldn't dare go against you. Again I Apologize for doing so before."
"As her champion."
"Precisely, my lord."
"Well I guess I have to apologize to you as well for killing your…," Kurt said, not exactly wanting to apologize for killing that horrible thing, but doing so out of politeness.
"There is no need for apologies from you, her majesty has already provided for me. I was the one that was wrong, I can see that now."
"Provided?"
"Yes your friend Lady Sara, she will be a worthy champion for me, we will get along very well I believe, it hasn't been long but she seems very capable. I have no objections to her majesty's decision. It is only the next morning, in fact, if you were wondering how long you were out for, It basically has only been a long night's sleep."
"What? You and Sara?" And Kurt knew Sara wasn't ever going to be called anything else but Lady from now on here, just what that ego needed.
"Yes. I'm sorry, Lord Kurt, I must inform her majesty. You are as kind as she says. Thank you for your forgiveness, if you would excuse me." Mary bowed, turned away and soon left the room.
"Wait, where is Sara?"
Mary turned back, "She said to tell you she had to pick up the carriage today, I'm not completely sure what that means." Kurt remembered today was the day the carriage was supposed to be done, their half-nomad life might have already begun.
"Umm okay," Kurt was fairly undressed in the pool, at least they kept on his boxers this time, how did that part happen again anyhow? How was Mary just? And 'Lord Kurt'? When did anyone call him that? And when had he actually forgiven Mary? He knew one thing though, she wasn't telling him everything about what happened. It just left.
But everything she said sounded completely sincere. That she was sorry for what happened, and that she was completely loyal to Layla, and thus him, now. She was giving off a few odd expressions, she did have a bit of craziness left in her Kurt felt. Women though, they were all a bit crazy right? That's what people said at least. But fae aren't women or men, they don't have genders for some reason, Layla had explained at least that before. Kurt also figured it was very rude to ask about another species' reproduction, so he had just left it as is. He felt that was an especially good rule after meeting Brood Mother Carla as well, he certainly didn't want to imagine that.
He was curious what he being here all meant but… but in the end if she was now on our side who was he to argue against that? And Sara was a champion herself now, what did that even mean? He had a feeling it wasn't good.
