Chapter 215: Leaving the Capital
Having learned from his previous mistake, Kenji now made sure to disguise himself whenever he went out.
This was perhaps one of the minor annoyances of being a public figure.
Fortunately, his simple disguise worked, and he made it out of the Phoenix Nest without being recognized by any passersby.
After all, everyone was busy with their own lives and jobs. Generally, people didn't stare intently at strangers on the street.
Once he was out of the city limits, Kenji took off his sunglasses and pulled two Poké Balls from his belt.
"Come out! Beedrill!!"
Beedrill burst from the ball in a flash of red light, hovering in mid-air.
The distance from the Capital City to Mt. Dreadmist in the Southern Cloud Province (Yunnan) was quite significant.
If he rode Ninetales, it would probably take several days.
So, Kenji chose a faster method.
As soon as Beedrill was released, it understood Kenji's intention. It flew behind its trainer, carefully extending its lance-arms to cradle him under the armpits, making sure the sharp stingers didn't touch him.
At the same time, its two slender insect legs wrapped firmly around Kenji's torso, locking him in place.
Once secure, Beedrill flapped its wings, slowly gaining altitude.
With Beedrill's current strength, carrying one Kenji into the sky was effortless. It could probably carry ten Kenjis without breaking a sweat.
Kenji's feet left the ground. In moments, he was several dozen meters in the air.
Looking down at the shrinking landscape, Kenji felt a rush of excitement.
Yes, Kenji's "faster method" was simply having Beedrill fly him there.
Beedrill wasn't huge, but with its limbs wrapped around him, it looked like Kenji was wearing a giant bee-shaped jetpack.
Kenji glanced at the map on his smartwatch and pointed in a direction.
Beedrill buzzed in acknowledgment and flew toward the destination.
It accelerated gradually, careful not to go too fast. After all, it was carrying its fragile trainer.
If Beedrill flew at full speed—faster than the speed of sound—Kenji would be dead before they arrived.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, Kenji followed the map to steer clear of all human cities.
A giant bee carrying a person flying over a city would trigger air defense systems immediately.
If he accidentally set off a city-wide alarm like Electivire did during its evolution, it would be incredibly awkward.
Although, with his current status, even if he did trigger an alarm, it wouldn't be a huge problem.
Flying south, stopping occasionally to rest, Kenji arrived at Mt. Dreadmist on the afternoon of the second day. It was much slower than taking a plane, mainly because Kenji needed frequent breaks.
But the feeling of flying with his own Pokémon was completely different from sitting in a metal tube.
Hovering above Mt. Dreadmist, Kenji looked down and marveled.
Just as Grandma Liu had said, looking down from above, it was impossible to spot the location of her valley residence.
This was naturally the work of her Level 100 Master-rank Gengar.
According to Grandma Liu, a barrier created by Gengar perpetually shrouded the valley. It not only rendered the valley invisible to the naked eye but also blocked electronic surveillance.
This was the power of a Master-rank Pokémon—transcending ordinary limits to effortlessly alter the natural environment of a region.
Landing at the foot of the mountain, Kenji didn't rush up. He waited quietly.
Gengar monitored every movement on the mountain. It surely knew of his arrival.
Sure enough, within ten minutes, a small Gastly popped its head out of the ground. Kenji used this time to put on his hazmat suit.
Following the Gastly, Kenji soon arrived at the familiar entrance to the valley.
Passing through the entrance, the familiar valley scenery appeared before him.
"Chaa!!! —"
The moment Kenji stepped into the valley, before he could even take off his hazmat suit, a black shadow shot out from the depths, rushing straight at him.
The shadow moved with incredible speed, arriving in front of Kenji in the blink of an eye.
In the next second, Kenji felt a chill spread through his body as a long, serpentine form wrapped him up tightly.
Arbok's massive head appeared less than a fist's distance from his face.
"Chaa!!! —"
Arbok was incredibly excited, its flickering tongue almost touching Kenji's nose.
After the initial jump scare, Kenji realized it was Arbok, and his fear turned into joy.
"Long time no see, Arbok," Kenji greeted with a smile. He tried to raise his hand to hug the snake, only to realize his arms were pinned to his sides by Arbok's enthusiastic constriction.
After the initial excitement wore off, Arbok reluctantly loosened its grip. Kenji regained his freedom and reached out to pat Arbok's head.
Arbok nudged his hand with its snout, narrowing its eyes in enjoyment. It clearly missed Kenji deeply and didn't want to be separated for even a second.
"Hehehe... Little Kenji is here..."
From the courtyard house, Grandma Liu walked out leaning on her cane. Although she looked frail and elderly, the light in her eyes was even brighter than when Kenji first met her.
"Grandma Liu, you look even more energetic than last time. You're getting younger every day!" Kenji greeted cheerfully.
Grandma Liu nodded, smiling. "Alright, alright, stop with the flattery. Come in. You must be tired from the journey. Come have some tea and rest."
Kenji scratched his head, patted Arbok, and followed her into the courtyard with Arbok and Beedrill.
"Good tea!"
Tasting the unique tea again after so long, Kenji's eyes lit up, and he praised it repeatedly.
"If you like it, take two bags with you when you leave," Grandma Liu said casually, taking a sip from her cup.
Kenji hummed in agreement, not standing on ceremony.
"How long do you plan to stay this time?" Grandma Liu asked.
"Five or six days," Kenji replied, then briefly outlined his travel plans for the gym challenge.
Grandma Liu nodded without much comment, then said, "Work hard. When you participate in the Huaxia League Conference, Grandma will go there personally to cheer for you."
"Grandma, you're leaving Mt. Dreadmist??!!" Kenji exclaimed in surprise.
Grandma Liu nodded. "Yes. I've stayed in this mountain for so long; it's time to go out for a walk. Besides, my apprentice is competing in the tournament. If I, the master, don't show up, how would that look?"
She paused, then added with a mischievous glint in her eye, "Besides, Grandma is very much looking forward to seeing you drag that brat Zhurong Yun off his throne with my own eyes."
