Chapter 203: Shiny Roselia
Kenji was very much looking forward to the Imperial Breeding Center.
If he was lucky enough to find a Pokémon with S+ Potential, that would be even better.
Based on his past experience, an S+ Potential Pokémon should only need to be upgraded to 3-Stars to reach its potential limit.
And once a 3-Star Pokémon hit its limit, upgrading it to 4-Stars would grant it a massive 100-point boost to its base stats, just like Beedrill.
Besides the Pokémon, the Special-Grade Pokéblocks and Special-Grade Treasures were also incredibly rare items.
Things money couldn't buy.
The prize was a six-month supply of Special-Grade Pokéblocks for six Pokémon. Kenji currently had eight Pokémon on hand.
Among them, the Poison-types—Beedrill and Arbok—were already enjoying Special-Grade blocks thanks to Grandma Liu's sponsorship. And the results were visibly effective.
Now, the remaining six Pokémon finally had their food source secured, albeit only for six months.
But Kenji was satisfied.
Six months was enough.
The Huaxia League Conference (the main tournament) would begin roughly five months after the conclusion of the National League.
Once Kenji won the League Championship, he would secure an unlimited supply of Special-Grade resources for every single one of his partners.
Aside from the official tournament prizes, the System reward had also arrived.
One Prismatic Hex Core Draw!!!
This reward excited Kenji even more than the tournament prizes. He could barely contain his anticipation.
But now clearly wasn't the right time to draw a Prismatic Hex Core.
Kenji decided to wait until he finished selecting his Pokémon at the Imperial Breeding Center before spinning the wheel.
The held items and Pokéblocks would be delivered later.
But for the Pokémon, Kenji and the others had to go to the Breeding Center personally to make their selection.
Besides Kenji, Xie Mu and Chen Tuohai also had the privilege of entering the Imperial Breeding Center.
Kenji's ideal goal for this trip was to find an S-Rank Potential Pokémon.
If he couldn't find one, he would try to find an S- Potential Dark-type Pokémon.
After all, he had promised Tyson Tang that he would secure an S-Rank Pokémon for both him and his sister, Bai Bai, as payment.
Tyson already had his Gulpin, but Bai Bai's S-Rank partner was still outstanding.
Escorted by specialized staff, Kenji, Xie Mu, and Chen Tuohai arrived at the Imperial Breeding Center.
Calling it a "Breeding Center" was an understatement; it was essentially a small, self-contained Pokémon world.
Its scale rivaled that of a standard Wild Area designated for capture.
Entering the facility required staff supervision. Firstly, to ensure the safety of Kenji and the others—after all, powerful Pokémon roamed freely inside. Secondly, to regulate their activities within the sanctuary.
After entering, Kenji split up from Xie Mu to search for his own target.
As a Psychic-type specialist, Xie Mu's goal was clear. The moment he entered, he asked the staff for directions to the Psychic-type habitat.
As for Kenji, he didn't have a rigid type preference like Xie Mu.
He cared more about potential.
Chen Tuohai was similar to Kenji; he didn't focus on type but rather on compatibility with his battle style.
Chen Tuohai specialized in fast-attack tactics, so he was looking for high-speed, high-attack sweepers.
In this regard, Chen Tuohai and Kenji shared some similarities. Kenji also enjoyed using fast sweepers.
Compared to the clear goals of the other two, Kenji was more casual.
He wandered aimlessly through the habitats, scanning the Pokémon with his gaze.
Being a facility directly under the Huaxia League, every Pokémon here was rare, and the lowest potential among them was B-Rank.
It could be said that if a rare Pokémon existed within China's borders, the Imperial Breeding Center had it. Even some species not native to China could be found here.
During the selection process, using devices to check potential was forbidden. What you got depended entirely on luck and your eye for talent.
But Kenji had the Data Eye, which made the process much simpler.
Within an hour or two, Kenji had already spotted several Pokémon with S- Potential.
Specifically: a Growlithe, an Ivysaur, a Cubone, and a Piloswine.
The Growlithe was low level, only Level 11. The Piloswine was already Level 36.
If he had to choose among these four S- Potential mons, he would probably decide between the Growlithe and the Ivysaur.
Choosing Ivysaur made sense because Grandma Liu could help make Poison-type blocks (since Venusaur is Grass/Poison), and this particular Ivysaur had the Chlorophyll ability. It would fit perfectly into a semi-Sun team with Ninetales and Bellossom.
As for Growlithe? The reason was even simpler. One word: Cool!!
Whether as a puppy or fully evolved, Arcanine's design was undisputedly the best among the four. Plus, Arcanine had solid stats and access to Extreme Speed.
Kenji wasn't in a rush to decide. The facility was huge; he refused to believe he couldn't find a true S-Rank Pokémon.
The staff didn't mind his dawdling. Choosing a lifelong partner was a decision that required careful consideration.
During his search, Kenji ran into Chen Tuohai and Xie Mu again.
Like him, they hadn't found their perfect match yet.
Given this rare opportunity, they were naturally being extremely cautious.
Chen Tuohai was the first to make a choice.
It was a Roselia.
When Kenji saw the Roselia Chen Tuohai had picked, he was startled.
It was a Shiny Pokémon!!
Shiny, or "Alternative Color" Pokémon, were unique anomalies. Simply put, they were individuals with a different coloration than the rest of their species.
Like two yellow-skinned parents giving birth to a dark-skinned child (metaphorically speaking).
Because of their different colors, Shiny Pokémon were often ostracized and driven away by their own kind in the wild.
But while they were outcasts to their kin, they were treasures to trainers.
The genetic mutation that caused the color change didn't just affect appearance.
It often correlated with higher potential.
Even the weakest Shiny Pokémon usually had at least B-Rank potential. Most were A-Rank, and some even reached S-Rank.
A normal Roselia has red and blue roses on its hands.
But Chen Tuohai's Shiny Roselia had a black rose and a purple rose.
Its body color wasn't the usual bright green, but had a yellowish tint.
Through the Data Eye, Kenji confirmed its potential: S-.
Chen Tuohai was ecstatic holding his new partner.
Its evolution, Roserade, had a base stat total of 515, with Speed at 90 and Special Attack at 125. It fit Chen Tuohai's fast-attack strategy perfectly.
