Cherreads

Chapter 2 - Algorithm 1 ( A1)

Ethan troughed down the side of the road with nothing more than a bruised face and a black eye.

A thin line of red was oozing out of his mouth, as every single joint in his body felt sore.

* One day. I'm gonna punch that smug look of his face,* he touched the side of his swollen cheeks. His eyes looked soulless and without hope, encouraging the black circles surrounding his eyes.

Though, he knew although he said he would one day give Roen the payback he deserved, it might never actually happen. As currently, all it was....was just that....talk.

°°°°°

After walking for about twenty minutes( he couldn't take a ride home since his money was also taken away from him during the beat down).

He finally arrived home. His house was honestly nothing short of luxury. The white mansion with green grasslands surrounding it. A gate made out of pure gold and the occasional shimmering of light bouncing off the rushing water from the fountains leading to the main house.

Others would look at it and think of it as nothing more than a paradise for the rich. But for Ethan, it was nothing but a mere cage....a cage of nothing but silence and solitude wrapped in diamond and silver.

Walking through the gate, he moved towards the main door of the house and pulled out a key from his pocket, inserting it into the key hole.

Click ~

The door opened with a slight creak. Seeing this, his eyes fell as he became even more disheartened.

" It's always going to be locked. They're never home," his voice was low, but audible enough to notice the tjnge of sadness surrounding that sentence.

Right from a young age, Ethan's parents had rarely been around, as it seemed to him that they'd rather be with test tubes and lab rats than their own child.

His parents were genetic scientist, who for a long time have been trying to crack the thought of a safe genetic fusion of human and animals.

They wanted to make the idea of myth become reality, and somehow, that crazy idea had been approved by the government!

" Guess it's take out again tonight," he mumbled, as he stared at the cold and dead kitchen in the house.

After a little while of lamenting about the kitchen,he headed straight upstairs to his room. There were about seven rooms in the entire house, and only one was regularly being used. The others either have made accomodations with cobwebs and dust-bunnies, or silence and depression of solitude.

Honestly living in such a large house alone, was nothing short of torture.

As he got into his room, he immediately dropped the bag on the ground and headed to the bathroom for a shower, but just as he was about to take off his clothes, he realized the laundry basket was filled with clothes and it was already high past time he actually washed them.

" Sigh! Today just isn't my lucky day," He grabbed the basket and headed down to the basement where the washing machine was located.

-_-_-_-

Creak~ creak~'

As he opened the door to the basement, the sound of the door creaking, was enough to make his hair stand on end.

The basement was dark and the dimly lit bulb did nothing but add to the creepiness, even the scent of the area was close to the same as the smell of old wood bark dipped in rain water....it wasn't nice.

" I hate this place,"

Creak~

Stepping onto the descending stairway, Ethan held tightly to the basket of clothes in his hands and cautiously walked down.

With every step he took, the sound of each stair creaking and clicking like they would fail and break at any moment, made him extra careful to the extent of him being nearly on the tip of his toes.

As he took the last step and made it down, he couldn't help but heave out a breath of relief as he smiled confidently, like someone who had just been awarded for having fought bravely against a lion.

" I really am the best!" He said in a voice of triumph as he grinned widely. This must have been the most exciting thing he had done this week, at least more exciting than the constant loop of going to school, getting kicked at and beaten black and blue till he got home, where he would eat, watch some TV and sleep, just to wake up the next day to continue the cycle.

As he took a step forward, he felt the movement of something run up the foot of his toes, and he immediately jumped up in fright, tumbling the already filled up basket to tumble all over the ground.

" Ouch!" He exclaimed, as he fell to the ground with pain in his butt.

" Squeak" he turned his head around only to find out that he had just fallen over because of a little mouse that had ran over his legs.

" Damn, stupid rat, look what you made me do," he exclaimed in annoyance as he looked around with annoyance to the fact that all his clothes are now scattered upon the ground.

" Well, better get to picking,"

Just as he got up to start picking up the clothes, he noticed a sharp golden glint of light shimmer behind the washing machine. It was small, and only even noticable from the anger he was staring from.

But seeing such a thing behind a washing machine, did nothing but fan his curiousity.

He slowly walked over it and pushed aside the washing machine to find out what it was, and what he saw shook him.

It was a large, gold microchip...well, not a micro chip since this one was the size of a palm. It had strange looking circuit and complicated metal arrangements on it. Even a small screen where a gold light was emanating from.

" What the heck is this?" His mouth was left agape, as he stared at the futuristic looking object embedded into the wall.

Suddenly, as if in response to his question, the microch- no, the "megachip's" gold light began to move in a strange way like audio recording, and even small neon lights appeared around it.

[ Hello Ethan. I, am A1, the Carter family's Personal Artificial Intelligence system. Algorithm 1.]

" What the frak?!"
