Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Lin Xian'er

Considering the girl's exhausted physical state, Han Feng prepared to take her to the nearest settlement, Qing Shan Town.

The moonlight gradually climbed up the branches.

Han Feng walked down the great mountain alone, the girl in his arms curled up like a small cat.

In the deep forest, countless pairs of greedy eyes stared at this lone human, and low beastly roars seemed to be giving orders.

Han Feng stopped, tilted his head slightly, and in his deep black pupils, a blue flame suddenly ignited.

"Whimper~"

The wild beasts scattered in all directions, fleeing for their lives.

All was silent, just like when a top predator appears in the wilderness and even the insects and birds stop their chirping.

The aura Han Feng had just displayed undoubtedly represented that he had, at this moment, become the overlord of this region.

However, this newly promoted overlord of the Mountain Range of Magical Beasts had no intention of staying. He just held the girl in his arms and walked away, step by step.

Qing Shan Town.

The morning was misty. On the watchtowers, heavily armored soldiers clad in armor and holding sharp weapons were responsible for monitoring the Mountain Range of Magical Beasts, forming a clear boundary with the pedestrians coming and going below.

Han Feng entered the town and first found an inn, placing the still-sleeping girl on the bed.

"You can really sleep, little girl."

Han Feng, who had been awake all night, sighed with emotion.

He stood before the bed, looking at the girl's peaceful sleeping face, and did not move for a long time.

What should he do next?

Han Feng was a little lost.

In his legendary resume from his previous life, there seemed to be no experience in taking care of a child.

Fortunately, the girl was not an infant, otherwise, Han Feng would have been in real trouble.

After thinking for a moment, Han Feng rummaged through his storage ring for medicinal ingredients, preparing to refine some recovery pills.

Given that the girl had not yet cultivated Dou Qi, she definitely couldn't refine high-grade pills. He could only use some gentle ones.

"I'm out of ingredients."

Han Feng looked a little helpless.

Before leaving Feng City, he had only prepared some commonly used ingredients, the lowest of which were for refining third-grade pills.

He had used up some of the low-tier ingredients when he was refining pills for Gu Xun'er.

It seemed he had to go out and buy some.

Han Feng glanced at the still-sleeping girl, wrote a note saying "I'll be out for a moment," and placed it on the table.

That should be fine.

Han Feng thought to himself, straightened his clothes, and walked out of the inn.

The morning crowd in Qing Shan Town was not as large as in Wu Tan City, but the vendors on the streets and alleys had already opened for business.

Han Feng first had breakfast at a breakfast stall and brought a portion back with him.

He asked the shop owner about the location of the medicine shop in Qing Shan Town and left an extra silver coin as payment for the directions when he paid.

Following the breakfast stall owner's description, Han Feng crossed several streets and arrived at the most prosperous central area of Qing Shan Town.

Not far away, where the crowd was dense, was the largest medicine shop in Qing Shan Town—"Myriad Medicines Pavilion."

A group of mercenaries seemed to be preparing to enter the mountains in a team and were currently queuing up at the entrance of the Myriad Medicines Pavilion to buy medicine.

Han Feng walked closer and saw that the medicines sold by the staff of the Myriad Medicines Pavilion were all ungraded medicinal powders. Their effects were far inferior to pills, but for low-level cultivators who couldn't use pills, they were very cost-effective healing items.

A rich medicinal fragrance wafted through the air. With a light sniff, Han Feng knew the composition of the powder.

Larkspur Bamboo, Jade Dendrobium Liquid, Honeysuckle...

The person who mixed the medicine had a good foundation in pharmacology.

With a hint of approval, Han Feng passed through the crowd and walked into the Myriad Medicines Pavilion.

The shop was very simple, giving a refreshing feeling. A staff member was calculating accounts at the counter.

As it was still early, apart from the mercenaries who were in a hurry to go up the mountain, there were no other customers in the shop.

Seeing Han Feng walk into the shop, a staff member came over with a smile on his face.

"Sir, what would you like to buy?"

"Daylily Flower, Purple Knotwood, Mysterious Yin Fruit, at least ten years old."

"Alright, please wait a moment, sir."

The staff member swiftly found the three types of ingredients and placed them in front of Han Feng for him to inspect.

Han Feng checked the age and preservation of the ingredients and nodded.

"Thirty portions of each of the three ingredients."

"You got it!" the staff member responded loudly. It was a good start to the day; the first transaction was a big one.

He then called for others to help move the ingredients.

Watching the staff members work together to bring out the ingredients, Han Feng checked the quality of each one. After they passed inspection, he put them all into his storage ring and paid the bill.

"Please come again, sir."

Amidst the enthusiastic farewells of the staff, Han Feng walked out of the Myriad Medicines Pavilion. By now, the mercenaries had already bought their medicine powder and were heading towards the town gate.

"The leader is Mu She. I heard he recently advanced to a seven-star Dou Practitioner and has already gathered a group of mercenaries to work for him."

People on the street were discussing gossip, their tones tinged with a bit of envy.

Han Feng paid no mind and returned to the inn immediately.

However, when he pushed open the door and walked into the bedroom, he saw the girl on the bed hugging her knees, curled up in a ball. Her shoulders were shuddering. Hearing the noise, she suddenly looked up, her eyes misty with tears.

Seeing Han Feng, the girl immediately jumped off the bed, without even putting on her shoes, and rushed towards him.

Han Feng caught the girl. She hugged his leg tightly with her small strength, her tears soaking his robe.

"Why are you crying?" Han Feng patted the girl's head and asked gently.

"I thought you had left," the girl said with a sob, feeling wronged.

She already saw Han Feng as her reason to live. If Han Feng had left without a word, she would have broken down.

"I left a note on the table. Didn't you see it?" Han Feng said patiently in a gentle voice.

The girl shook her head.

Han Feng picked her up and brought her to the desk. They both saw the note on the table that said, "I'll be out for a moment."

The girl was stunned, and even her crying stopped.

She lowered her head, her face flushed with shame, but she hugged him even tighter.

"I, I didn't see it... I didn't do it on purpose."

Han Feng heard the unease in the girl's voice and comforted her in turn.

"Alright, don't cry. You have to learn to be strong. If I'm really not by your side, what problem can crying solve?"

Hearing this, the girl immediately stopped crying. She quickly wiped her face with her dirty little hands, but ended up smudging her face.

Han Feng's serious expression instantly broke. He laughingly tapped the girl's nose.

"Go wash your face and hands. I brought you breakfast."

The girl immediately went to wash up obediently.

Having lost her home and family, the little girl followed Han Feng's orders as if to please him, her actions showing an immense submissiveness towards him.

She was so afraid that Han Feng would abandon her that she completely gave up the privilege of being coquettish, unique to a girl of her age, obeying her master like a pet.

Han Feng could do nothing about this, only thinking of slowly guiding her in the future.

After the girl washed up, she sat down obediently. A steaming hot breakfast was placed in front of her.

She glanced at Han Feng, and only after seeing him smile and nod did she begin to eat cautiously.

After the girl finished eating, Han Feng asked, "What's your name?"

The girl wiped her mouth and answered seriously, "My name is... Lin Xian'er."
