Without waiting, I pushed the door open and stepped down from the car.
I walked back to her but surprisingly she stood frozen, staring at me—her gaze held a genuine reverence and admiration that she wasn't just left in a trance.
Even when I called her name a few times she was unresponsive. I had to flick her nose to gain her attention.
"What are you staring at?" I asked with a suppressed smile.
Her cheeks flushed and her head lowered. I was certain she had turned shy. Recalling her boldness nights ago, my lips curled.
Why do I have to introduce her to the council?
Why should I expose her to the dangers just because some people are insisting?
No. She would get her revenge on the people who had hurt her over and over, and afterward, she would live peacefully, without strain or trouble…without being pulled into the chaos of my world.
"Come on, where are you headed?" I asked.
I wasn't sure what I was hoping for but when she mentioned her intention to stroll and let off steam.
