The hall fell into silence. I could feel their veins throbbing hard beneath their skin, hearts hammering loud enough that even the walls seemed to flinch.
I was certain they hadn't perceived her scent nor sensed her presence—otherwise, they wouldn't be foolish enough to summon me. Even when I stepped through the doors, it remained impossible; I hadn't marked her yet.
"Alpha Carter," Elias finally said, breaking the suffocating quiet. "It hasn't come to the notice of the council that you found a mate. As at the last full moon, you were still without one, and this worries the council."
I chuckled, with a brief shake of his head in amusement.
"Alpha Carter, this isn't funny, and it is definitely nothing to joke about, hence we worry…" Darius began.
