The leader of Grass Village glared at the Iwa-nin standing arrogantly at the doorway. His patience had reached its limit.
He knew that if those two Stone ninjas managed to escape today, the Grass Village would face endless trouble from Iwagakure's retaliation.
Quietly, the Grass leader signaled one of his burly subordinates with a glance—deal with them.
The thickset ninja understood immediately. After receiving the order, he stepped forward with several men behind him and shouted,
You two intruders dare trespass into Grass Village! Who knows what evil schemes you're plotting? Yet you question us?
Surrender now! Do it, and we might just spare your lives....your Iwagakure comrades can come collect your bodies later!"
Uchiha Arata's shadow clone hadn't had his fill of "acting" yet. Hearing the Grass ninja's threat, he picked up his weapon with a dramatic flourish and roared,
"You filthy Grass vermin dare lift a hand against me?! Listen well....there are only Iwa-nin who die in battle, never cowards who surrender! Come, then! Let's see who bleeds first!"
He brandished his weapon, appearing ready to charge forward...though his feet didn't move an inch.
The short, stocky Grass ninja hesitated.
Should he attack? The man before him was from one of the Five Great Nations.....if they actually killed him, the consequences could be disastrous.
But if he backed down now, his reputation would be ruined. No one in the village would ever respect him again.
Grinding his teeth, he remembered his leader's order. Raising his weapon, he shouted,
"Even if you're an Iwagakure shinobi, you trespassed into our land...you're a spy! Grass Village doesn't fear trouble! Kill him!"
With that, he charged, weapon gleaming coldly in the dim light.
But just as his strike was about to land, he froze.
The arrogant expression on the Iwa-nin's face had vanished, replaced by an eerie calm.
There was no fear, no panic...only a trace of mockery in his eyes, and a faint, knowing smile.
A chill crept down the Grass ninja's spine. Something's wrong... I've been tricked!
His weapon struck true....yet there was no spray of blood, no sound of flesh tearing.
Instead, the "Iwa-nin" vanished in a puff of white smoke.
Both of them.....gone, like ghosts in the wind.
The courtyard fell silent. Grass-nin surrounded the house, staring at the empty doorway where their enemies had stood moments ago.
The silence thickened with disbelief.
Weren't they just shouting about dying in battle? Where are they now? Didn't they say Iwa-nin never surrender? Where did they go?
The entire scene turned awkwardly quiet.
The Grass Village leader's face darkened. If he couldn't see that he'd been played for a fool, he didn't deserve his title.
Snapping out of it, he barked,
"Don't just stand there! Search the house...now! Don't let them escape!"
The others jolted into motion, leaving a few guards outside while the rest rushed in to search.
Still, the leader knew deep down that it was pointless.
They'd been surrounded completely.....so how had those two slipped away?
The answer, for now, remained a mystery.
At that very moment, Uchiha Arata's shadow clone dispersed..and miles away, the real Arata opened his eyes, gaining the clone's memories.
He couldn't help but twitch a smile. Great... my clone turned into a full-blown drama king.
Still, he didn't waste time. Knowing the clone was gone, he had to move fast. He needed to regroup with Uzuki Yugao.
If those Grass-nin caught up and found her, it could spell trouble for the girl.
Arata focused his chakra, feeling the newly copied power flow within his Sharingan...Kakashi's Kamui. The gain was immense.
Though it wouldn't immediately evolve his Sharingan, it was still a giant leap forward.
He helped adjust Kakashi's forehead protector, covering the man's left eye again.
Out of curiosity, he tugged down Kakashi's mask for a peek...
"Huh. Not bad," Arata muttered with a smirk. "Almost as handsome as me."
After tidying Kakashi up, Arata hoisted him over his shoulder and returned to the room where Uzumaki Karin and her mother were resting.
He gently lifted them both, glanced around to ensure nothing was left behind, then activated the space mark he had placed earlier near Grass Village.
In an instant, they vanished.
Reappearing in the forest outskirts, Arata scanned the area..no pursuers.
He immediately headed toward the rendezvous point where Yugao was waiting.
We regroup, and then we're gone.
Once Grass Village realizes what happened, they'll sweep this entire area.
Carrying an unconscious Kakashi meant he'd lost one fighter and gained one burden.
Escaping quickly was the smart move.
