"Why don't you just spray paint the window instead of scraping off every bit of colour? It'll save you time."
"Too much black ruins the canvas, I prefer to see what's outside my balcony then risk a stalker waiting to ambush me."
"Well your not some famous author yet so their won't be anyone interested enough."
Wednesday stopped working and stared at me, "why have you stopped working since you unpacked the bean bag."
I was sitting on a black, large soft bean bag that Wednesday brought from her room. Usually I always sat on it when I was on a break from helping her back home. I bought it for one of her birthdays with the intention of making it my own. Though I'm surprised she brought it knowing so.
"Have I not helped enough? I did your bed frame, made your bed, unpacked that monstrosity of a typewriter and a bunch of tedious tasks."
"Yes, but from the comfort of the bean bag while using your sand. Barley lifting a finger. Getting too comfortable in life leaves your flank open."
"Work smarter not harder and thanks for the warning although with you at my side there's nothing I'm not prepared for."
Wednesday stood up, "I will never stay at any man's side. I refuse to let myself succumb to being a house wife."
I stared at her bewildered by what she said, "I meant, like your always making me do dangerous tasks not marriage."
"Marrying you, would be a death sentence and I vow that it won't be me who dies first." She responded in a instant.
"Ouch, anyway, one of my mice came back. Seems like Enid is coming."
A little golden rodent entered the room through the crack under the door. I've been using them as look outs since its past curfew and boys or girls weren't allowed in each others dorms. One of the little tricks I've managed to come up with using my sand. Although when I make them out of my black sand they always end up biting people rather than running away from them.
"Shall I leave then or you need something else?"
"Stay in case I need you put her to sleep, permanently."
"But I rather like Enid's company."
"Who likes my company?!"
Enid came inside and we looked at each other. I couldn't help but smile, welcoming her to the conversation, "hey Enid."
"Oh hey Elliott, hold on what are you doing here? If your caught-Wednesday! What have you done to my room!"
Enid went straight to Wednesday confronting her on the massacre of her room. I wanted to stay and enjoy the show but one of my mice came in while they argued. A teacher was coming and I made my way to the balcony to hide while she left.
I waited a couple of minutes and almost left until Enid poked her head out through the hatch embedded in the widow, "you can come in stranger." She jested.
She waited by the widow while I came inside even offering a hand for assistance. Wednesday stood at her bedside arms crossed. She was carrying a flower.
I walked next to her and inspected the plant, " a black dahlia, isn't it one of your favorite-"
"How do you know Enid?"
Wednesday's gaze was fixated on Enid who seemed agitated by the question, "I met her in the morning before she gave you a tour of the place. You'll like her she's rather open with the rumors surrounding us."
"If I needed a friend with fur I would have gotten a dog."
Enid extended her nails into claws, "I should make your face reflect the gossip I've heard about you."
"What makes you think I'll leave you intact enough for you to continue that blog filled with ramblings of a child."
"You can extend your claws without wolfing out?"
Wednesday stepped on my shoe, "is that really what you care about?"
"Ow, first of all. Secondly, you won't even be here in a months time. I thought you were escaping or has Nevermore caught your eye?"
"As if I'd stay with the aristocratic, it'll ruin my novel." She turned around and headed for desk with her typewritter, "deal with the wolf and leave through the back door when your done."
I looked back at Enid who straightened her back eyeing me in case of an attack. "Relax Enid, I don't follow all her orders to the letter. Besides we promised to help each other right?"
"Ya, a pinky promise. I just didn't expect her to be-"
"Intelligent, have self-esteem, or not a fan of your works."
"Ignore her, she might be blunt but it doesn't mean she's right. By the way what classes do you each have?"
Enid took out her phone and showed me her schedule, "got any together?"
I analyzed her classes, "about half of them. Guess I'll be counting on you for guidance if you'd do me the honors."
"You can confide in me, I know who to ask for answers in case an exam is coming up. What about, you know who?" She whispered at the end and pointed her finger at Wednesday.
I shrugged but walked over to Wednesday, "hey do we have any classes together?"
"I didn't bother checking, afraid you won't have me to rely on for protection."
"Did you even get a schedule?"
Wednesday took out a printed sheet of paper from her sweater and handed it to me. I looked over it, "not a single one."
She contuined typing, "divide and conquer. Principal Weems must believe I depend on you for all my endeavors. She's proving to be more of a fool then I expected."
"Well I guess I'll see you at therapy tomorrow. Try not to get them to retire before I have my first session please."
She didn't answer me. I walked back to Enid who had her arms folded trying to decide how to best lead with her roommate. "Just keep to yourself. Normally she leaves bystanders alone. Anyway, goodnight Enid see you tomorrow for...P.E?"
"Physical education, there's nothing better than having fun in the dirt, for a wolf." She mumbled the phrase in sarcasm to herself it seemed.
Not sure what she meant with that and feeling tired I headed for the balcony. Enid went over to her side of the room trying to accommodate what was left of her belongings after Wednesday ransacked them. Once my body was outside I poked my head inside, "go to sleep Wednesday."
"You know I have self control and only write an hour a day to ensure the best quality in my novel. Do try not to break a leg worrying about the hours of rest people have."
I closed the window and made myself to edge of the balcony. Seeing that the area around was clear I jumped and created an umbrella of sand that made me glide to the ground. Then I simply walked back to my lair avoiding the teachers on patrol.
