After spending some time with the pack members, it was time to go back home. They arrived and Felix insisted on preparing dinner. He said he wanted to feed himself, so Mercedes couldn't dare deny him that. She sat at the table and watched him do all the work. He rolls the sleeves of his shirt up, showing his veined manly forearms. Mercedes was caught up in a daze of admiration for her mate.
He chopped the vegetables and began cooking. In no time, it was already smelling delicious and that is when Mercedes's stomach grumbled, catching Felix's attention.
" Are you that hungry?" Felix asks, teasing Mercedes, who was already embarrassed.
" Yes. I could eat a person," she teases back, licking her lips provocatively. Felix, stunned, cleared his throat, and decided to look away from her. Waking up the beast in him at the moment was not a good idea. Mercedes giggled at his expense.
" Alright. Dinner will be ready in no time. No need to be impatient," he says.
" In the meantime. Would you like a glass of wine and some cheese?"
Mercedes's face is up as she eagerly nods her head. " Yes, I would love that, please. That would help a lot."
Felix went and grabbed a bottle of red wine. He also grabbed two glasses from the cabinet and went to Mercedes.
" This feels like the last supper...somehow," Felix mumbled solemnly. For first, Mercedes was quiet. Even she kind of felt it so she didn't know what to say otherwise. Felix opened the wine and poured it into the glasses.
" Here," he says, handing her over the glass. " A toast to the future. A toast to us and our family. May we live and be prosperous." Mercedes raised her glass and clinked it with Felix's glass.
" A toast to that," she says with a smile, and both of them take a sip to seal their toast.
Felix gets up and continues to cook. He prepared a nice and simple dinner for them to enjoy. Mercedes's stomach grumbled for the second time, signaling her hunger. She was having her second glass of wine while waiting. She giggled to cover up her embarrassment. She lightly caressed her stomach.
" Alright, alright. I am almost done. We are going to eat just now." He quickly turned off the stove and took out plates to dish out. He had prepared creamy steak Fettuccine. He brought the plates over to the table after dishing out enough food for them to eat. As soon as Mercedes saw the dish, her eyes were mesmerized. It looked so delicious that she could wait to dig in. Her stomach would agree that she needed to put something inside of her.
She took a fork and dug in immediately while Felix observed her to make out her reaction. She moaned as she felt like her taste buds had exploded.
" So... what do you think," he asked her nervously.
" Are you kidding me? You do not need to even ask. It's out of this world. I didn't even know you could cook that well," she squealed in excitement.
Felix sighed in relief. He knew that it was not that bad, but considering that her taste buds were not the same, there was a possibility that she would not have liked it.
"That's a relief. I am glad that you liked it," he says. Mercedes couldn't even say anything because her mouth was stuffed. She relished the food. It made Felix so happy to see her enjoying food cooked by him. He would do it every day if he got to see a smile on her face. They finished their food quietly and Mercedes asked for seconds. Felix gladly served more.
After dinner, Felux suggested that they go out to Star Gaze. The sky was full of stars tonight and Felix didn't want to miss the chance to do simple things with her before she had to leave. He hadn't made peace with it, but he had to make do with the situation.
On their room balcony on the hammock, they lay abs and stared at the sky for what felt like an eternity before Mercedes broke the silence.
" I heard that our loved ones who have left this world have become stars in the sky. Do you believe that?" she asked Felix, who was lost in deep thought.
He sighs, thinking of a response to give. " Well, I never really thought of it. Losing a loved one was just so upsetting and having to think that they had become a star so near yet so far from reach upset me even more. I was like staring at an inanimate and hoping that at some point it will move or talk to you."
" I understand. I guess that is just so that it could comfort you in your loss. But let's just think that our loved ones are stars just for tonight and try to talk to them even if we know that they won't say anything. I want to do that," she says, draining her neck to be able to see him from behind her.
Felix didn't mind at all. He would do absolutely anything for her. Even if he has to briefly believe that his loved ones are stars, then there was no harm in that.
" Alright. I guess I miss my parents a lot. I didn't get to share most of my life with them. I didn't het to introduce them to the love of my life nor will I get to introduce them to their grandchildren. What say?! Shall I introduce you to them right now?"
Mercedes was touched by what he said and almost cried. She nodded her head. " Yes. I would like to meet your parents. Both of them concentrated on the sky before Felux started speaking.
" Hi, Mom. Hi dad. It's me, Felix. I miss you so much. I hope you two are doing well wherever you are. Dad, I hope you do not give Mom a hard time. You know easily she gets irritated, so I hope you are good to her. Mom, you know Dad is such a man-child, so bear with him. He is not all that bad. Anyway, I am doing well as well. It was not easy without you two by my side, but you don't have to worry about me now. I have someone by my side. I have found my mate. Her name is Mercedes, and she is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen," Mercedes blushed when she heard that.
"She is kind and thoughtful, and she is the best Luna after mom for this pack. They would have been great friends. You were right Dad. No one will ever compare to your mate, and I am glad that I will get to experience love like yours. I promise to be the man you raised and love her till the end of time. I will lead this pack and protect it from any danger. I hope that you can send us your blessings and watch over us. I love you."
At that moment, a star twinkled to their surprise. " Did you see that? What does that mean? Does it mean they heard me?" Felix asked with a gleam of hope in his glassy eyes. Both of them sat up facing each other, holding hands.
" Yes! Yes, they did. They heard you, Felix," she said and captured his lips. A lone tear escaped her eye as she was overwhelmed with emotion. Felix grabbed her and pulled her into his lap without breaking their kiss. They poured every feeling into the kiss, and they felt like fireworks were exploding. They broke apart briefly and Mercedes whispered," I love you so much."
