Chapter 40 - Chapter 40

Mercedes woke up inside a room. Her head was slightly ringing as she sat up. She didn't remember what happened to her. She held her head in her hands and tried to ease her pain.

Alexa went inside and found her awake. She sighed and felt relieved. It's been 2 days since the incident. There was nothing Alexa could do to wake her up. It was up to Mercedes to wake up. It would have been bad if something had happened to her.

" Mercedes, you are awake!" she exclaimed, placing a tray of food in her hands on the table and going to sit next to her on the bed.

Mercedes looked at her in confusion and asked," What happened? I-I don't remember what happened after we got to Alvira. Everything is hazy, and my head hurts so bad."

Alexia placed her hand on her back and stroked her lightly.

" It's okay. Take it slowly. There is no need to push yourself. Relax," Akexa coerced sweetly. Mercedes tried taking deep breaths and cleared her mind. She turned to look at Alexa.

" How long was I out for?"

Alexa looked at her and hesitated to tell her. " Oh, uh, that..." she trailed off, averting her eyes.

" Tell me, Alexa," Mercedes beckoned.

" Well, you were unconscious for 2 days."

" What? What happened to me?" Mercedes asked in a concerned tone. She struggled to recollect what happened and it was bothering her.

" Look," Alexa gets up and takes the glass of water, handing it over to Mercedes.

" Nothing happened other than the fact that you had a breakdown when we got to Alvira. It must have been overwhelming to be there. Your emotions were disrupting the energy and I couldn't stop you, so I had to knock you unconscious. From there you were asleep for 2 days. That's all."

" Oh," Mercedes said and gulped down the water to quench her thirst. Her throat was starting to hurt from being dry.

" Okay. I made you some breakfast as well. Have it and come find me once you are done."

" Wait!" Mercedes exclaimed before Alexa could leave.

" Have you heard anything from Felix? He must have been so worried, so worried when he didn't hear from me for days."

" Oh, lover boy. He freaked. He called me right away because he sensed your pain. He wanted to come over right away, but I managed to stop him. You can call him now that you are awake." Alexa smiled and walked away. Having lived for so many years, she didn't care much about love anymore, but she didn't mind others in love.

Mercedes reached over to the table and grabbed the plate of sandwiches. She scarfed down the tuna and mayo sandwiches and gulped down the juice in record time. She was not full yet, but it was enough to calm her down. She then looked for her phone and, once she found it, she immediately called Felix.

Holding it against her ear while it was ringing, Felix picked up the phone when it rang for the second ring.

" Mercedes, is that you?" he asks anxiously. He had not heard from her since she left. On that day, he was also in pain as she was now that they had marked each other. It took everything in him not to follow her to Alvira and get her back. Roland was the same.

He couldn't take the pain of separation, but he knew that he had to ensure it.

" Yes, it's me," she asked.

" Oh! Thank the Goddess, my love. I was about to go mad and think the worst. Tell me. Are you okay now? Do you need me to come get you?"

" No, no. I am okay. I don't know what happened exactly, but I'll get over it. I just wanted to tell you not to worry. Although I miss you, I have to do this. So don't worry. I'm sure what happened will never happen again."

Felix sighed and massaged his temple. He was exhausted. For the past few days, he would eat or sleep, and it was starting to take a toll on him. Jake and Crystal tried to get him to eat, but he was stubborn about it and intended to keep it up until he heard that Mercedes had regained consciousness. Now that he is certain she is alright, he could be at ease.

" Alright then. I will take your word for it. I love you so much. I will die if anything happens to you, so take care."

" I will. I love you too," she said with a blush. Those words could now easily roll off her tongue. It is becoming a natural habit and she likes it.

" I should get going now before Alexa gets annoyed. I will call you later."

After the call, Mercedes gets up and walks out of the room. The place looked unfamiliar to her and it was not Alvira. She was in a building on top of the mountain, and she couldn't see anything but fog outside. The hallway was lit with fire torches. Mercedes just started walking whenever the path in front of the hallway led. She walked until she reached the end of the hallway. There were stairs to descend, so she started going down. The place was dark and eerie, and she suppressed the urge to call out to Alexa, afraid she would encounter something unknown. She was now in another realm and wasn't sure where she even was.

She got to another floor and the hallway was the same as the other one. Mercedes realized that she would find Alexa by just walking around not knowing where to go. There were rooms, so she decided to go knocking on each door. After knocking on all the doors at the floor, Alexa was nowhere to be found. There were people in those rooms. Girls reside in those rooms. Some were sharing and some were not.

Surprisingly, no one was interested in knowing who she was, no one tried to help her find who she was looking for. As soon as they answered her, they shut the door in her face. Mercedes was getting frustrated and she felt lost. She went down the stairs to the last floor and looked for a way out. She needed to know where she was first. When she got to the last floor, she found so many girls chatting away in the hallway wearing some kind of uniform. She got into the crowd that seemed not to pay attention to her, and she saw classes. Mercedes was astonished and realized that she was in a school.
