" Where are we going now?" Mercedes asked. They left the restaurant a while ago and Felix promised to bring her back some other time after she expressed to him how much she enjoyed the food. Now they were off to the amusement park in town. Felix heard the was fair, and he decided to go there with Mercedes. He didn't tell her because he wanted it to be a surprise. Initially, he wanted to go to the movie theater, but after finding out about the fair, he thought that would be better.
" You'll find out when we get there, okay? I promise that you will like it," he says to her, and she flops down her seat sulking. She couldn't wait to find out where they were going, but she trusted Felix's judgment. If he says she is going to like it, then she surely will. No doubt about it. This time it didn't take long, and they were already there. This time, Mercedes was in awe of everything, and she got out of the car herself as soon as Felix parked the car. She was like a little girl amazed by a jar of colorful candy in front of her. Her simplicity and genuine reaction to things continued to amaze Felix. It truly doesn't take a lot to make her happy. She was not like all those materialistic girls who don't like anything that doesn't have a pricey tag on it.
She ran inside, leaving Felix behind, but he made sure to keep her in his sight. The place was crowded with families, basically a lot of humans and even though she was one of them, she wasn't anymore, and it was not safe to wander around.
As expected, the fair atmosphere was lively and welcoming. Humans knew how to spend their time and amuse themselves. If only life was that simple in the supernatural world. But then again, the differences in the two realms were what separated them and distinguished them from each other. If it was the same, then there would not be a reason to hide.
Felix walked as he observed Mercedes skip around, checking all the stalls she passed by. There were too many stalls to count selling different items, such as snacks, toys, food, decorative articles, jewelry, and game stalls. Mercedes stopped at a toy store and beckoned Felix to come over.
" What is it, my love?" he said, rushing over to her side. Mercedes blushed at the endearment and pointed toward the big white teddy bear.
" I want that bear. Can you win it for me?" Felix could see that she wanted the bear as she gave him puppy dog eyes. Felix smiled and cradled her face and kissed her cheeks.
" Okay then. I'll win it for you and anything else you want," he replied, making Mercedes happy beyond imagination. This brought her childhood yearning. She has never been to a fair. Her parents were never interested in making her childhood wishes come true. There is a lot she didn't get to do as a child. She never got the chance to be a child at all.
She was pushed to grow up too quickly. But that was not the time to let hurtful memories resurface. It's never too late to enjoy the fair or any other things that she wants to do. Those days of suffering are gone, and now she can enjoy everything she wants.
Felix took the darts she was supposed to throw and got ready to win the prize for his mate. He was not nervous at all. The perks of being a werewolf are that he can effortlessly hit the bullseye because of his heightened precision and sharp visual acuity. One dart was all it took to leave the man at the stall mouth agape.
Even Mercedes was surprised, but she quickly realized that she was going to get the bear. She jumped up and down in joy, and he jumped in his arms. He caught and spun her around. The others observed, and some girls were jealous, nagging their boyfriends to do the same for them.
Mercedes got the bear, and they moved to align with other stalls. They came across a hot dog and corn dog stall and decided to buy one which they shared. They went around viewing what was being sold. Mercedes bought a dream catcher with feathers and a butterfly. It was beautiful, and she asked if she could put it in the room.
" What are you saying? Of course, you can. It's your room too. You should not ask me for anything because everything that is to me belongs to you as well. Like how I belong to you, and you belong to me," he says closer to her ear, sending a shiver of pleasure down her spine.
After stall hopping, they went to the rides. There were too many rides to choose from, but Mercedes chose the carousel ride first. Felix decided to let her go up alone and helped her. The carousel went around a few times, and he stood there watching her enjoy. Other people were watching their kids and some couples were on the carousel as well. After the ride was done, he went over to help her get down.
" It was so fun! I want to go for another round," she jumped excitedly. It was so amusing and refreshing to see the inner child of Mercedes resurface. He chuckled and shook his head no, denying her request.
" No, you can't. We have to go on other rides. I'll bring it back again when we have time, and you can ride the carousel as many times as you like. For now, how about I make it up to you with that?" he asked, pointing toward the cotton candy stall. Her eyes lit up like Christmas lights, and she immediately agreed, and she forgot about the carousel ride. She ran over to the stall, leaving him to follow behind.
Felix didn't know that Mercedes could be so hyperactive, but it was a good thing. He won't get to see this side of her as often as he would like to, so why not enjoy it now? After buying 2 cotton candies for her alone, they went to enjoy the other rides. This time, Felix joined her, and they had a blast on the Ferris wheel, roller coaster, space shot, skydiver, Hydra, Vertigo as well as most of the thrill rides at the fair. It was a miracle that no one puked, but in case someone did, Felix had an umbrella ready to cover. Speaking of which, Felix's hand was almost broken because of how tightly Mercedes gripped it while screaming in his ears throughout the ride. He didn't mind though, he was just glad that she enjoyed the evening.
" Thank you for tonight. I don't think I've ever had this much fun before. It's all thanks to you," Mercedes said sweetly as she boldly stood on her toes to plant an appreciation kiss on Felix's lips. Felix didn't let it end there. He deepened the kiss and pulled her closer to him. He squeezed her waist and took the chance to slip his tongue in as she gasped. Their tongues fought for dominance over each other, which Felix did effortlessly. They kissed until they were out of breath and slowly pulled apart. Mercedes's arms were still around Felix, and she placed her forehead on his as they both took deep breaths to try and stable their pounding hearts. It felt like another thrill ride.
Exhilarating and hot.
After their hot make-out, they walked hand in hand, and suddenly they came across a tent written" Palm Reader. Find out your fortune ". Mercedes felt an attraction and wanted to go inside. It was like a force that compelled her to want to go inside. She grabbed Felix's hand tightly and pulled him towards the entrance of the tent.
" I want to go inside the," she said monotonously, like a robot. Felix was confused but he went along with it. They went inside and saw strange relics and stuff usually found in places like that.
An old woman with white eyes was seated in the middle of the tent with her hands on a sphere. She looked up as soon as she noticed them, and they stood silently without saying a thing. Felix looked at Mercedes, wondering why on earth she would want to come here. The vibe inside was so strange in an unsettling, eerie kind of way. The smell of different kinds of herbs was suffocating, but he couldn't say anything. He just wanted to please her and if she wanted her fortune to read them, so be it. He just wished that they could get it over and done so they could get out there already.
" You are here. I've been expecting you, Princess. You've finally found your way to me," the old lady says in a creepy raspy voice, making goosebumps appear on Felix's skin.
He was confused but more so because there was no reaction on Mercedes's face. It was as if she knew what the old lady was talking about. He was still lost, but he decided to stay quiet.
" Your people have been praying for you and their prayers have been answered by the Goddess. Come forward Princess, if you dare wish to know what your future is like. " Mercedes let go of Felix's hand and walked over to the old lady without saying anything. It seemed so odd. Mercedes looked hypnotized. Before she could sit down, Felix pulled her behind him and stood in front of her protectively.
" Who are you and what did you do to her?" he growled in his Alpha voice. The old lady did not even flinch or show any sign of fear, which made Felix worried. He looked back at her to see her just standing like a lifeless corpse.
" Mercedes! Mercedes! What's wrong with you? Come back to your senses!" he shook her and tapped lightly on her cheek but to no avail.
" She is alright. There is nothing to worry about. She is fighting the spirit. Her true spirit wants to resurface and be one of us. She is the Princess of the White Wolves, and she has been reborn to once again save the realm from evil at large," she declared. It was a shocking revelation for Felix. He didn't know anything about what the old woman was talking about, but it was about Mercedes and the Drakoen situation. A reincarnated Princess? How did that happen, and why don't I know about this? Felix wondered. That's not the story everyone knows. There was no mention of a specific Princess among the white wolves. So what was this about?
" What do you mean? What the hell are you talking about? What Princess? For goodness sake, what's happening to her?" Felix was feeling confused and frustrated. The happiness that had earlier vanished into thin air. It must have been true that good times don't last long. All he wanted was to escape and forget about everything for a little while, even if it was just a few hours, but that was just so impossible.
The old lady smirked like a creep, just adding to Felix's nerves. He was starting to regret stepping foot into the tent. He shouldn't have and shouldn't have let Mercedes have her way this time. Now they have encountered trouble.
" Don't worry. She will be back to normal in some time. For now, why don't you sit down and let me read your palm?" Felix swallowed thickly, weighing his options. He couldn't just take Mercedes and leave with her while she was still out of it. The old lady would have to fix her. But then again, he didn't want to sit down because it was not safe. It was a risk, and he didn't know what to do. He ended up deciding on what is best for Mercedes and set down with her.
" Look here, old lady. Stop playing games. I want you to tell me what you are about to tell me. What nonsense are you spewing right now?" Felix growled, demanding answers.
The old lady continued to smirk and said," Nonsense? Nothing I said is nonsense, and it's only a matter of time before everything repeats. Will it be victory or defeat? Are you not curious?" she asked like it was the most entertaining thing right now.
" Tell me, are you not curious about how things will end? Do you wish to find out?" The old lady asked a tempting question, staring at Felix, who wanted to know more. But he was not sure if he should even listen to her considering the danger. Somehow, he found himself saying," Will you tell me about it?" Curiosity and concern took over his senses, and he wanted to know if there was a way to win the impending battle and survive.
