"Much better," Sun Jing muttered, dismissing the screen.

Once she finished eating, she stood up, stretching lightly before heading toward the spiral staircase leading to the fifth floor mini-boss.

Halfway up she encounters 3 undead Samurai who are all level 14.

"Seriously? More undead monsters?" Sun Jing says.

She reached into her inventory and pulled out her Traveler's Sword, gripping it firmly. Instead of rushing forward like before, she took a steady stance.

"Let's test this out."

She raised the sword and pointed it directly at the incoming enemies.

"Shining Road."

A brilliant beam of pink and silver light erupted from the blade, tearing through the air with terrifying speed. The beam curved mid-flight, chasing the samurai no matter how they moved.

One by one they were all engulfed in the attack.

The undead samurai disintegrated instantly, their bodies erased in a violent explosion of shimmering light that shook the staircase.

Sun Jing blinked as the blade of her Traveler's Sword shattered into fragments, scattering across the stone floor. All that remained in her hand was the hilt.

"…Damn."

She stared at it for a moment before casually tossing it aside.

"Oh well," she said with a shrug. "I can always get a new weapon from the system."

Just before Sun Jing reached the entrance to the fifth floor, her system chimed again.

[Quest Update]

Objective: Defeat the Fifth Floor Mini-Boss

Reward: Wado Ichimonji

Sun Jing slowed her steps.

"…Huh?" She frowned. "Isn't that Zoro's sword from One Piece?"

The system, as usual, offered no response.

"Figures."

She placed her hand against the massive double doors and pushed them open.

The fifth floor revealed itself as a traditional dojo, its wooden floors spotless and polished, lanterns casting a soft, steady glow across the room. At the center stood a pedestal and resting atop it was a sword with a pure-white hilt, a circular handguard and white sheath.

Kneeling before the pedestal was a man with long, dark purple hair. A sheathed katana rested on the floor beside him.

"So…" the man spoke without looking up. "You're the intruder."

He picked up his sword and rose to his feet, violet eyes locking onto Sun Jing.

"Tell me, girl," he continued. "What is it you seek?"

Sun Jing raised a hand and pointed past him.

"That sword back there," she said plainly. "I want it."

The man glanced at the pedestal, then back at her.

"…You desire Wado Ichimonji?"

"Yes," Sun Jing replied without hesitation.

A faint smile curved his lips.

"Very well." He slid into a stance, one hand resting on the hilt of his katana.

"If you wish to claim that blade… then you must defeat me and prove you are worthy, child."

"Fine by me."

Sun Jing reached into her inventory and pulled out her Giant Boomerang, gripping it tightly. Aside from her Fairy Bow, it was the only weapon she had left.

Her system window appeared automatically.

[Mini-Boss Identified]

Name: ???

Title: Guardian of the White Path

Level: 19

"Tch…" Sun Jing muttered. "That's a big jump."

The man's presence suddenly shifted.

"Ittoryu Iai—"

In the next instant, he vanished.

"—Sanjuroku Pound Ho!"

A blur of blue streaked across the dojo.

Sun Jing barely managed to track his movement before he reappeared, blade already swinging. Holding his sword horizontally above his shoulder, he unleashed a powerful circular slash.

A compressed, spiraling air projectile tore through the dojo and slammed directly into Sun Jing's torso.

"Gah—!"

Blood sprayed as she was hurled backward, her body lifting off the ground. Pain exploded through her chest as she coughed up blood midair.

Sun Jing poured magic into her arm and hurled the Giant Boomerang, its edges glowing with pink energy as it spun violently toward the swordsman.

The boomerang collided with his blade.

Sparks flew as the weapon spun rapidly against his sword. For a brief moment, the two forces clashed then the man twisted his wrist, parrying it aside.

The boomerang was knocked away, curving back through the air.

Sun Jing landed hard on her feet, sliding back slightly as she caught the returning weapon.

"Shini—"

"Ittoryu Iai: Yakkodori!" The man moved first.

With a lightning-fast draw, his katana unleashed a crescent moon–shaped blade of compressed air, screaming across the dojo toward Sun Jing.

Her eyes widened.

"—Full Counter!"

Sun Jing swung her Giant Boomerang at the incoming attack as the crescent collided with her weapon and rebounded instantly, reversing direction at even greater speed.

The air blade struck the swordsman square in the chest.

BOOM!

He slid backward across the wooden floor, sandals carving grooves into the planks before he dropped to one knee.

"…Impressive," the man said as he stood, brushing dust from his sleeve.

"A counter technique… and such precise timing."

His gaze shifted to the weapon in her hands.

"And yet, you fight with… a boomerang?"

Sun Jing shrugged.

"This is, like, the only other weapon I've got."

"I see." He nodded calmly.

"No matter. In the right hands, anything can become a weapon."

Steel met spinning metal as their weapons collided again and again, sparks flashing with each impact. The sheer force of his strikes drove Sun Jing backward, her shoes skidding across the floor.

'Tch—he's strong!'

She dropped low suddenly, sweeping her leg beneath him while bringing the boomerang down in a crushing arc.

The man twisted his blade just in time.

Her attack was parried away, the force jolting up her arms.

The two leapt apart, landing on opposite sides of the dojo.

The guardian raised his sword once more, eyes focused on the blond girl in front of him.

"…Good," he said. "Show me more, challenger."
