"I will be watching!"
I smiled as I looked straight into his eyes. I swallowed; my throat was dry. "Then watch closely," I whispered, forcing a small smirk, though my pulse was anything but calm.
Derek's lips curved, but it wasn't a smile. It was that knowing, dangerous smirk of his. He released my arm slowly, his thumb brushed over my wrist before he finally stepped back. "Good," he murmured. "Because if I have to step in, I won't stop at warnings."
"Noted," I said softly, trying to sound casual as I pulled away. The room suddenly felt warmer, quieter, too quiet, maybe.
I rubbed my arm lightly and took a step toward the dresser. "If you'll excuse me," I began, forcing a small laugh to break the tension, "I need to be at the office now. We'll meet up before twelve so we can head to your parents' house together."
He glanced at the wall clock, just seven a.m. and gave a small nod. "You're already heading out this early?"
