Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Contract

The rain fell heavily that evening, soaking the streets and turning the city into a blur of lights and reflections. I stood outside the tall glass building, clutching the folder in my hands as my heart pounded against my chest.

This was it.

If this meeting didn't go well, I didn't know what I would do next.

I took a deep breath and looked up at the towering building in front of me. Everyone in the city knew who owned it.

Adrian Cole.

The youngest billionaire in the country. Cold, powerful, and a man who never mixed business with emotions, or so people said.

I pushed the glass door open and stepped inside. The lobby alone was bigger than the entire apartment I lived in. Everything looked expensive, the marble floors, the tall chandeliers, even the quiet way people walked around as if they were afraid to make noise.

I approached the reception desk.

"Good evening," the woman behind the desk said politely. "How may I help you?"

"I have an appointment with Mr. Cole," I said, hoping my voice didn't sound as nervous as I felt.

She checked her computer for a moment, then nodded.

"Twenty-fifth floor. His assistant is expecting you."

My stomach twisted.

This wasn't just any meeting. This was about the contract.

A strange contract I still couldn't fully believe was real.

The elevator ride felt like it took forever. When the doors finally opened, a tall man in a black suit was already waiting.

"You must be Miss Carter," he said.

I nodded.

"Mr. Cole will see you now."

My hands felt cold as he led me down a quiet hallway and stopped in front of a large office door. He knocked once before opening it.

And that's when I saw him.

Adrian Cole stood near the window, his back facing me as he looked out over the glowing city below. Even from behind, there was something intimidating about him, something powerful.

When he finally turned around, my breath caught.

Sharp jawline. Dark eyes. Calm expression.

The kind of man who looked like he controlled everything around him.

His gaze settled on me, studying me carefully.

"So," he said slowly, his deep voice filling the room,

"you're the woman who is about to sign a life changing contract."

My heart skipped.

I tightened my grip on the folder.

"Yes… I am."

He walked toward the desk and placed a document in front of me.

"Before you sign," he said, looking directly into my eyes, "you should understand one thing."

I swallowed nervously.

"What is that?"

A small, almost dangerous smile appeared on his face.

"This contract will change your life....and mine."
