"Aunt Nadine," Sera echoed faintly.
"She appeared that night with you in her arms," Benedict said softly. "Came through the kitchen entrance. Your hair was white as snow. You were tiny. Beautiful."
"She dumped you into Brianna's arms," Benedict continued, "and told her to keep you safe. Said your life was in danger. She promised she would come back the next day to explain everything. She said she had to hurry before anyone noticed she was gone."
"Gone from where?" Sera asked.
"From the Duvall estate." Benedict said. "But she made one thing very clear. Vivienne must not find out about you."
Benedict coughed. He shifted slightly. "I wasn't there," he said. "That night, I was with Eric. I would never have let her leave."
"The Luna mother instructed that I keep Eric locked in," Benedict continued. "I was to watch over him. The shadow wolf would target its new vessel. And Eric…" He exhaled. "Eric was next in line."
Sera wrapped her arms around herself.
