Even though Ethan's voice was soft, Lyra could feel that he was starting to get frustrated.
And Lyra understood him.
Who wouldn't get frustrated? If they just woke up and realized that some of their memories were hazy.
So, understanding Ethan, Lyra shifted her hands, clutching both of Ethan's, rubbing affectionately and reassuringly as she spoke in a slightly hesitant voice.
"Do you remember going out to play near the river?"
"Yes," Ethan replied; he could access that part of the memory.
After hearing Ethan's response, Lyra once again asked, "How much can you recall properly?"
"Till I crossed the river," Ethan replied again.
From the memories of the previous Ethan, Ethan could recall that the previous Ethan was playing with his friends on the riverside.
Before they sneaked into the guarded area and started to talk about what was on the other side of the river.
Going outside the village was not allowed due to danger. So people who were not warriors didn't know much about what was on the other side.
They only knew that some beings named fiends dwelled outside the village, and going outside could get you killed.
So people never left the village, as it had become a kind of rule that they were born knowing.
The whole village was surrounded by the huge walls, and the river was the only boundary that was open but still guarded.
But that day, Ethan and his friends found that only one guard was guarding the riverside, and she was sleeping.
And due to her slack guarding, Ethan and his friends had sneaked into the guarded area. But they were still inside the village, as the other side of the river was the outside.
So, while they were talking about the outside village, previous Ethan had said he could cross the river, causing everyone to laugh.
And only God knows what happened to him; he not only suggested this crazy thought but also jumped into the river to act on it.
And... he crossed the river.
"I did it."
And that was the last memory Ethan could recall.
"After crossing the river, you had said you found something interesting in the forest and had moved inside, even though your friends tried to call you back," Lyra spoke, looking into Ethan's eyes.
"When you didn't return even after several hours, your friends notified the guards, who informed us and the chief. A rescue party was then organized.
"But, as the chief and the party reached the riverside, they found you unconscious on the shore."
Ethan could access the part of the memories where the previous Ethan crossed the river and entered the surrounding forest.
Even though he knew that going outside the village was dangerous, from the memories, he didn't think much of it.
As he was alive, so his mind unconsciously thought, 'Maybe the previous Ethan just returned after that.'
Because if he didn't, how was he supposed to explain being alive and being present in his room?
Yeah, he was still short-sighted. Because there were still many things that proved that maybe the previous Ethan didn't return immediately; maybe something happened.
But his mind never went there.
Not because he was brainless, but because there was no clue to think of; there was only blank after his memory of going out of the village.
So he had thrown it back in the mind to think more deeply about it later and had started to think about what he would do in this world.
But after listening to Lyra and knowing all the things that the previous Ethan did. His mind started to run through all the possibilities.
There were so many weird things.
First, the guard being slack—that never happened.
Second, the previous Ethan suddenly said he could cross the river, and he did it.
'Maybe behind this is also the being who transmigrated me to this world.'
But as this thought crossed Ethan's mind, another thought came forward.
'There can be other reasons for my transmigration too. Why the fuck am i only thinking that there must be powerful being behind this.'
'But it clearly looks like someone planned it, or maybe it's just a coincidence.'
'Yeah... what if the transmigration is just coincidence or some reincarnation mistake like shit?'
Many thoughts started to churn in his mind.
Seeing Ethan thinking, Lyra mistook it, thinking that Ethan was blaming himself.
So she spoke up, "It's not your fault. The chief said it was some fiend that caused these things.
"Because not only did you do something unusual,. Guards who were supposed to be guarding were all unconscious."
Hearing her voice, Ethan came out of his thoughts and looked at the woman before him, who was clearly worried about him.
'Here she is worried about me, and I am applying novel knowledge in real life.'
'But all the things that happened today, literally looks like a smut novel idea from a slop author.' He thought, snickering inside, completely forgetting Lyra, before he shook his thoughts off.
'Maybe being calm isn't a good thing.'
While Ethan was busy talking with himself, Lyra's worries were increasing.
"Ethan..." She spoke, bringing Ethan out from his thoughts again while she was clearly having a hard time holding back her tears.
Seeing her state, Ethan sighed inside before speaking, his voice gentle, "I am okay."
"Hm," She hummed, hugging him once more, her face buried in his neck as tears spilled from her eyes, wetting his shirt.
'Shouldn't I be the one getting consoled.' Ethan thought as he rubbed Lyra's back, trying to soothe her worries.
After Lyra stopped crying, she leaned back and looked at him.
Her red-rimmed eyes stared intently into Ethan's grey eyes, her hands clasping his cheeks as she spoke.
"I am so happy to see you like this again."
Ethan just smiled at her words.
Lyra smiled back at him before parting her cherry-like red lips and saying, "Okay, let's go. We have made Mother wait for too long."
"Hm, okay." Ethan replied as they both stood up from his bed, moving out of the room.
