SOREN
It was a nice day. I change my route to an uncommon way earlier when I jog and got to see a beautiful teleporter tree with a tea store nearby. An orange Caithsith was the owner. And he was wonderful and cuuute. After that, I've done my usual workout and wake up Selene. Kind of a hard part if she overslept. One time she slaps me when I tried blowing in her ears again and it stings. So much force for short people.
I cooked our breakfast, and pack our lunch. Eggs sautéed with tomatoes and onions, with ketchup and soy sauce paired up with rice. Cheap meal for two broke people. Selene is so horrible in the kitchen. I just learned it after day 14 of us living together. Like a kid who just learns how to cook. She… has potential. Just had a belief that "if I max the heat of the stove it would cook faster". Thus, I don't let her stay too long in the kitchen. One time it almost burns – and well it's my first witness to Selene's sketches comes to life, albeit momentarily as it creates a mess afterwards. Although I can feel that she wanted to learn and always curious what to put in the pan first, so I tried teaching her every weekend. I tried. She improves a bit. She can cut garlic now, just not an onion yet. She had to put her sketched goggles for that. Thank god for Lola giving us food.
Classes. I rarely seen Selene in the University grounds except when we go together in the entrance gate every day. Opposite buildings. We often bump with Cage and those two head together. They look like a couple from afar if you think about it. But I think Cage is…. Nevermind.
Enhancer classes are not that boring as I expected it to be. I remember my master years ago, explaining every myths and legends to me. That it stuck. Today, it's theoretical classes about certain types of Enhancers that can highly advance their technique...
"Hey, Soren. Got any extra pen?" Theo, my seatmate for this class asked me. One of the rare student who wasn't intimidated by me. And I am glad for that. I just also want people to know that I am goofy too. Well at least I have someone to talk to aside from Selene and Cage. Even it's to borrow a pen or just about exams.
".. Let me see. I still have one, but it's red ink? Still want to borrow that?" I asked.
"Yeah, it's fine as long as it can write." Theo said. "We have the same class after this right?"
"Yep, a mock battle again." I said. "It's fun but… a lot avoids me… Except you for now. Which is surprising Theo."
"Eh, I don't really care. At this point why not just apply for Mister Kwaku's Aide?" Theo said. "He favors you. At this point, just fight the upper years." He said, and copy one sentence in my notes. "Thanks."
"Hmmm. Kind of a hassle, I do like my job though. I can pet cute cats. You could visit it in your free time I guess. It's near the central plaza."
"I'll try on the weekend. Thanks for your notes." Theo said.
After explaining more other theories on the board, Miss Chaeron gave us pointers on what to study and leave. Students begin packing their things and hurriedly. Theo tap me and waved to say goodbye and went to the next class too. Just as I am about to leave, certain annoying murmurs, like, "kyah" with my classmates can be heard. I glanced up to see the commotion…. And it's an elegant looking, long black haired woman with bangs who started walking towards me. When she did come near me, she gripped my chin and inspect my face, like looking for defects and then my eyes, like she is about to pluck it out. And then she opens my mouth, like a dentist inspecting for cavities. Ugh. Annoying. Nina. Callahan said she wouldn't be back from her expedition for a while.
"Well, well…. How you've been… Wolfie? Do you still have that fang?" She said and look at it. "Remember when you bite me in the Arena. I missed that sting."
"Ugh chut ish oush" I said. And she let go for a while and sit in my table. She gave an icy glare to students who were watching us, and they immediately leave the room. "People will think that we are fighting again."
"Fighting? I think it's the other way around with our position. But you don't really care about those things Soren." She said as a matter of factly. I don't. Whatever rumor it reach to other people.
"So, what's bring you here? I have my next class you know, in about 15 minutes from now." I said looking at my phone's time, while she positioned herself properly and sat near me and leaned on my shoulder.
"Fight me again." She said. "I like the adrenaline when fighting you. I have excused you from Kwaku's you know? He gives me a thumbs up."
"Ehhhh. I'll lose again anyway. You know how you beat me in the final round. Are you that bored?" I said. She looks at me, unconvinced.
"But you won once though. That episode that got deleted. My father did not even want to air that; it would not look good in the family he says." Nina said.
"Huh, that's just once, I never beat you again. Although I loved to beat you with a little burning competitive spirit in me, I still needed to learn more. See that burn a little burn marks you made during the final round. I didn't quite heal it." I said, pointing at wrist, then I rest my head on her. "Am I really that interesting for a Sanguine to always look for me to fight? Don't you have other toys to play around?"
"They are boring. They always lose immediately with just a flick of my finger. The way you fight is intriguing specially – "She said and tilted my head again and looks at my eyes again. Interested, almost obsessed with it. "specially with eyes like this."
