A few minutes before the fight between Sakura and the sound trio, Bakugo was trying to find his teammates.
The fever was making him sweat profusely, and his face was starting to turn pale. To make matters worse, his makeshift shoulder bandage wasn't working as well as he'd liked. It hurt like hell, and he was starting to smell the pus from the infected flesh.
"I should have paid more attention in that old kisser's class. What a shitty doctor I am," Bakugo thought. He was trying to remember the place where they had parted ways. The fever and headache were making it hard to think straight. "Fuck! Where the hell have you guys been?"
He spent about a minute wandering around the area he thought was where he'd last seen them, though now he wasn't so sure. He gulped down half the water from his canteen, which he'd refilled at the river, to clear his head and wipe off the sweat. He was tempted to climb to the top of a tree, but just the thought of climbing in his condition made him nauseous.
His senses were alerted when he heard a girl's scream to the west of his position.
"That voice..." Bakugo thought, turning his face. "It has to be the big forehead. That means she's alive, but she must be in trouble. In my state, I don't know if I can defeat whoever's there. I'll have to make them believe I'm in perfect condition. Tsk, that means..." He looked at his bandage. "I have to get rid of this."
He removed his cumbersome bandage, and to cover the hollow of his shoulder he used his tape, having previously removed it from his forehead.
"I hope whoever finds me thinks I have terrible taste in clothes and that I'm not trying to hide anything," she thought, though she wasn't entirely optimistic about it.
He drank all the remaining water and quickly walked over to Sakura, even though it made each stride feel like a needle was being stuck in his shoulder.
—The pain is mental. Don't think your shoulder hurts, he thought as he continued running. —Don't think it hurts... FUCK. Who am I kidding, this is worse than a kick in the balls.
As he was about to arrive, he heard a voice he didn't recognize.
—YOU ARE A CRAZY FUCKING BITCH! —that voice yelled. —YOU'RE DEAD! DO YOU HEAR ME?— Bakugo climbed a tree, ignoring the pain he was feeling and focusing on the task of climbing—I WILL KILL YOU AND YOUR TWO LITTLE FRIENDS WITH MY MOST POWERFUL JUTSU!—
When he was high up on a branch of that tree, he took a quick look around to understand the situation.
Lee and Sasuke were unconscious behind Sakura, who stood like a human shield, her hair cut off and her face smashed. A tremendous rage took over Bakugo's body, causing him to momentarily feel no pain. He felt even more anger when he realized that the ones responsible for this were Orochimaru's followers.
—YOU BASTARD PELOPICNHO! —Bakugo shouted, glaring at Zaku —THE ONLY ONE WHO'S GOING TO DIE HERE IS YOU! AND YOUR TEAMMATES WILL ALSO RECEIVE THEIRS IF THEY TOUCH MY BALLS!—He then jumped off the branch and landed in front of Sakura, sticking the large Kubikiribōchō into the ground. —And if she seems crazy to you, it's because you haven't met me pissed off yet...—he whispered the last thing, dripping with hatred and with an unbalanced smile.
"Bakugo?" Sakura said, incredulous, her face bruised from Zaku's strong punch, looking at Bakugo's back. "Is it really you?"
—Of course it's me, big forehead! Don't tell me that bastard hit you so hard that you've become a fool? —Bakugo asked half jokingly, half seriously, turning his head and looking worriedly at the state his companion was in.
"Yes, it's you," she replied with a shy smile. Then she looked more closely at Bakugo's face. He was pale and his forehead was covered in sweat. "You look like a mess," she commented worriedly.
"Look who talked," Bakugo said, rolling his eyes.
"Well, well. I didn't know Konoha was full of brats with airs of their own," Zaku commented mockingly. "First that weird guy with the eyebrows, and now you. All you've managed to do is escort them to eternal rest."
"Tsk." Bakugo muttered, but decided not to answer. He had more pressing matters to attend to. "Forehead, you have to take Sasuke and the big-eyebrowed guy out of here," he whispered so the sound trio wouldn't hear them.
"Huh?" Sakura said, not understanding. "What's wrong with you?"
"I'll take care of this trio of extras. Now take them away, big forehead," Bakugo ordered in a whisper, without taking his eyes off Zaku.
"I'm not leaving you here alone, Bakugo!" Sakura retorted indignantly. "Besides, you're in no condition to fight!"
"Shhhh," Bakugo turned irritably, shushing her. He didn't want the people with the sound to know he wasn't in perfect condition. "I ate something that was bad, that's all. I'm fine, big forehead," Bakugo lied.
—Still... —said Sakura.
"Listen to me, Sakura," Bakugo said, getting serious and putting his arms on her shoulders. "I can't face those assholes and also be careful not to get attacked."
"No!" Sakura shook her head, tears in her eyes. "They defeated Lee in the blink of an eye! I can't leave you here with them!"
"I thought you were smarter, Sakura. If you're here, I'll have to control my outbursts. You're a nuisance to me right now. I need you to leave and get them out of here," Bakugo ordered, starting to lose his patience.
—But...—said Sakura, being interrupted by Zaku.
"How long are you lovebirds going to whisper?" Zaku asked, arms crossed.
"Take them to gate 12, where we entered this fucking forest of shit," Bakugo whispered, ignoring Zaku's impertinence.
"Why so far?" Sakura asked. "We won't be able to help you there when Sasuke recovers if you need help!"
"Look at the state he's in," Bakugo said, pointing at Sasuke. "I'm no doctor, but that looks like shit."
Sakura was hesitant, on one hand what Bakugo was saying made sense, but on the other she didn't want to leave him here.
"You protected that pair of idiots before," Bakugo said, pointing at Lee and Sasuke. "You still have work to do, big forehead."
"Fine," Sakura said, huffing. "You win. We'll be waiting for you at Gate 12." She then bent down and lifted the pair of unconscious boys onto her back.
"No," Bakugo said, suppressing a groan of pain from his injured shoulder.
"What do you mean no?" Sakura said, not understanding.
—If Sasuke doesn't get better when you get there, climb the fence or destroy it if necessary and take him and the big eyebrows to the hospital.—said Bakugo, putting himself on guard since he saw Zaku approaching.
"What about the exam? What about you?" Sakura asked.
"Fuck this shitty exam! And don't worry about me, worry about this trio of extras. I'm going to beat them so badly their mothers won't recognize them," Bakugo said with a fake, arrogant smile. The truth is, he didn't believe much in his chances of winning in his current state of health.
"I'M TIRED OF WAITING!" Zaku shouted, running in Bakugo's direction.
The ash-blond man extended his good left arm and launched a massive blast. Zaku, surprised by the attack, barely dodged it with a cartwheel.
"Get the hell out, Sakura!" Bakugo said, once again suppressing the pain he felt from the recoil of the explosion.
"Yes. I'm coming," Sakura said, with Lee and Sasuke's bodies on her back. "I'm sure Sasuke will wake up, so we'll be waiting for you. You better come quickly or I'll hit you with all my might."
"Heh," Bakugo grinned. "When I beat up these extras, I'll be the one hitting you for not listening to me the first time."
Sakura gave him one last knowing smile, and left as fast as her bruised body, overloaded with two bodies, could carry.
—WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING, PINKIE?! —Kin shouted, jumping out of the tree to stop her. But another explosion from Bakugo made her stop and look in terror at the cause of the explosion.
"Didn't you hear me when I warned you not to mess with me, you sound bitch?" Bakugo said, the veins in his neck popping out from the effort of suppressing the pain.
—Grrr. —Kin growled.
"Let them go," Dosu said, staring at the ash-blond.
—But... what about the mission?—Kin asked without understanding.
"Right now, this rude kid should be our priority. When we defeat him, we'll make him tell us where he sent the pink-haired girl with Sasuke," Dosu replied, showing off his perforated metal arm.
"This bastard mummy is the one who defeated the four-eyed guy in the written exam room," Bakugo thought. "And he must also be the one who defeated the big-eyes guy. Damn, if only he wasn't so screwed up in the shoulder..."
Bakugo was trying to think of a plan A to get out of there successfully, since right now he only had a plan B if things went wrong.
Another reason he wanted Sakura to take Sasuke and Lee was his backup plan. That plan was to create a mini Big Bang with all his remaining strength, destroying everything in its path and killing everyone near the explosion. And that included him.
