The room went still. I blinked rapidly, disoriented, my heart hammering in my chest as I jerked awake, gasping for air. I looked around the room in a daze, my breath coming out in shallow bursts. My skin was still burning, but the bed was empty. The warmth—the pressure—was gone. I looked to the side, half-expecting Alex to be there, still hovering over me, but there was nothing. Just the empty bed, the dark room, and my wild, racing heart.

The room was eerily quiet. The only sound I could hear was the rushing of blood in my ears. I rubbed my neck absently, the soft, lingering sensation of her mouth still fresh against my skin. I could still feel the heat of her lips, her touch, the way her body had responded to mine. My body was still humming, aching, like it had been touched by something impossibly real.
