Laughter filled the studio.
"My type," I said slowly, choosing my words carefully, "is someone reliable."
"He should be someone protective," I continued, "but not overbearing. Someone who supports me quietly, even when I don't ask."
"Someone caring," I went on, my voice steady, "but not controlling. Someone a little domineering, maybe, but also teasing. Someone who respects my wishes."
"Someone who can make me laugh. Someone who stands beside me even when the whole world is against me." My grip on the microphone tightened just a little.
"And most importantly," I said softly, "someone who never makes me compromise my principles. Someone who respects my self-respect as much as his own."
The audience listened closely while the host looked at me with a soft, meaningful smile. "You're describing this person in such detail," she said gently. "It almost sounds like you've already met someone like that."
I met her gaze and smiled. "Who knows?"
The audience chuckled at my response.
