Chapter 218 - Chapter 44: The Tower Master Says You Are Very Important

Wang Zhi and his team returned along the same route where they had encountered the giant eagle.

Seeing the giant eagle's corpse, they knew that reaching Dawn City was not far off.

"Eighteen times five hundred... plus one Mutated Crystal core...." Fatty calculated their haul from this outing from the rear.

"Sister Ying, you said there was a Mole among those people. Do you think the N Organization will take her back?" Wang Zhi asked.

"They will. If it were me, I would kill all those women and children to avoid letting the tiger return to the mountain," Su Muying stated plainly.

"Yes... You don't care, no matter how innocent or weak everyone else is," Wang Zhi said gloomily.

"So you have to adapt to this; in this World where it's either you die or I die, only strength prevails. The only reason Dawn Tower can control us all is because it possesses enough resources and strength to attract us to serve it, not because it holds any noble ideals." Su Muying turned her head to stare at Wang Zhi.

"It's hard to imagine what kind of person will ultimately survive in this Apocalypse." Wang Zhi shook his head.

"Heh, they certainly won't be good people anyway," Su Muying chuckled.

"Captain, those ahead look like people from Dawn City again," Qin Sheng reported from the rear seats.

Since the distance was too great, Wang Zhi could only make out a few figures. Had Qin Sheng not been using binoculars, he might have mistaken them for Zombies.

"it's a team just preparing to head out. Stay alert for a moment," Wang Zhi instructed, continuing to drive forward rapidly.

The opposing group numbered only five-it seemed to be a Level Two Team. As the two parties drew nearer, Wang Zhi noticed they showed no signs of caution or evasion, which made him inwardly suspicious.

Were they ignorant of the treacherous nature of this life, or did they harbor ill intent?

When Wang Zhi pulled up, the others waved toward his vehicle. Wang Zhi stopped beside the group, keeping his gun concealed behind the car door, ready to fire at any moment.

You Luo and the five in the trailing vehicle watched as Wang Zhi's team dismounted.

When the people being approached saw the five figures stepping out of the vehicle, each wearing an expression thick with hostility, they finally realized something was amiss.

"Uh... we mean no harm, we just wanted to say hello," the leader of the other group said, lowering his rifle and raising his hands.

"Mm, and we wish you safety as well," Wang Zhi replied, frowning.

"Are these all survivors you rescued?" the leader asked Wang Zhi, glancing at the people in the truck bed.

"Yes. If there's nothing else, we'll be going now. Get in the vehicle, let's move," Wang Zhi said, relaying the message to those following him via radio.

The opposing group could only wave goodbye in resignation.

"That nearly scared the life out of me. We almost messed with the wrong people this time," the leader of the other group said, sitting down once Wang Zhi and his team had departed.

"Boss, who were those people?"

"Didn't you see there were ten of them? Who else in Dawn City has a team of ten?"

"This... is that Level Five Squad?"

"You've got some sense in that head of yours. Be smarter next time! If you see the other party has more than five people, be more polite!"

.....

"Hahaha! That group of people is too amusing."

After Wang Zhi left, Su Muying, sitting in the passenger seat, burst into laughter.

"Survival isn't shameful," Wang Zhi replied.

"Then why let that group go? Just waiting for them to harm others?" Fatty asked.

"People like that won't live long out here. This is the outskirts of Dawn City."

The two SUVs gradually drove toward Dawn City. The survivors in the truck beds behind them had already spotted the high-walled Dawn City from a great distance.

Although they didn't know what it looked like inside, just seeing these walls provided a sufficient sense of security.

Boom~ Seeing people returning, the guards pushed open the city gates, and the two vehicles quickly drove inside.

"Get out of the vehicles, everyone," Fatty said as he stepped out and addressed those in the truck beds.

"Qin Sheng, Fatty, you two take them to the medical room." Wang Zhi took the gear from them and, along with the others, first went to the Ready Room to store the firearms and ammunition.

A while later, Wang Zhi hurried out of the medical room, bringing Jia Liuli with him as they rushed toward the City Lord's Palace.

He had no desire to return to his residence to rest; too many questions lingered in his mind. He even felt that the N Organization's series of actions could expose the location of their Base at any moment. Time was running out for them.

"Jie Xi, are you sure those were N Organization people? Has he defected?" Upon entering, Wang Zhi approached Jie Xi and asked.

"Our conversation was only a few simple sentences," Jie Xi replied.

"Then how can you be certain what he said is true?" Wang Zhi inquired.

"Before I sent you the message, did you discover any moles?" Jie Xi countered.

"All of us conducted thorough searches and observations, but found no evidence," Wang Zhi responded.

"So, we have to believe him! First, he knew we had sent people over. Second, he could have easily not told us and allowed the mole to successfully enter this place. Third, since he chose to tell us, was there any need for him to complicate things?"

"No need," Wang Zhi agreed.

Wang Zhi looked at Jie Xi, who was clearly much more haggard. Dealing with the massive N Organization lurking in the shadows on one side, and confronting the Infected Species outside on the other, preserving Dawn City in such harsh conditions was truly not easy.

"What I still can't figure out now is why the other party would tell us this crucial piece of information? Once this plan succeeds, they can pinpoint our location and launch an All-out Attack against us at any time. Why reveal such a critical plan?" Jie Xi rubbed her temples, puzzled.

"Could it be one of our own people?" Wang Zhi asked.

"Impossible. We have never had a mole from beginning to end."

"Not a mole... they don't want us to die... Then could it be that person wants something from us? Perhaps certain people? Or a certain object?"

Having said this, Jie Xi pondered for a moment, then slowly raised her head, her eyes fixed intently on Wang Zhi.

"Why are you looking at me like that...." After being stared at by Jie Xi for a while, Wang Zhi felt uncomfortable and asked.

"The Tower Master said you are very important." After a long silence, Jie Xi suddenly spoke.

"The Tower Master said I'm important... What does that have to do with the N Organization..." Wang Zhi said unnaturally.

"Think back carefully, did you encounter anything unusual when you were on Norman Island? And how did you lose your memory?" Jie Xi said gravely.

"Unusual things... memory loss... Auntie Zi... Her, my last memory there was talking with Auntie Zi," Wang Zhi recalled.

"Right! Did Auntie Zi do anything to you? Or rather, what instructions did she give you?!" As she spoke, Jie Xi had already risen from her chair, her expression somewhat agitated.

Wang Zhi involuntarily took half a step back as he looked at the worked-up Jie Xi; he rarely saw her agitated. The last time she was this way was when she learned his true identity.

"Yes... yes! When I first woke up in the laboratory, she was injecting me with something, and finally told me I absolutely had to survive, and explicitly informed me about the existence of the N Organization, and then she put me into..."

"Wait a moment! You mean Auntie Zi was injecting you with something? What exactly was that injection?" Jie Xi asked, somewhat shocked.
