Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: A Man Shouldn't, or at Least, He Ought Not To

"Thank you for your hard work, President Rudolf, and Vice President Brian."

"You're welcome, Trainer Chiya," Rudolf smiled. "Being cooped up in the student council all the time makes us neglect our interactions with the students. We had a lot of fun today too, training with these... unique classmates."

Thank you for being so tactful for my sake, President Rudolf. You could have just called them weirdos. I've already accepted the fact that my team is full of oddballs.

"Trainer Chiya."

Narita Brian looked up.

"Call me again if Shirayuki needs to train in the future."

She had taken a considerable interest in the white-haired girl. If trained properly, she would definitely be a good rival. Then they could have a satisfying race on the track.

"As for the others, forget it."

Compared to Rudolf, Brian was much more direct. She wanted to train with people who were strong, who could give her a thrill. Shirayuki was one of them.

As for Gold Ship and Meisho Doto, training with them felt like she was being pranked.

As for Rice Shower...

Due to her sprain, she had only done low-intensity basic training. If she could also provide a thrill, Brian wouldn't mind including her.

"Then I'll be in your care, Brian-san."

Chiya nodded repeatedly.

Having a Triple Crown winner as a training partner was a rare opportunity. Their skill and race experience were leagues above ordinary Horse Girls. The stronger the opponent, the faster a Horse Girl grows. Training in isolation was not the way to go.

After seeing the two powerhouses off, Chiya turned to his team.

"Alright, that's it for today's training. The mock race is next week. You all better get good results!"

"Trainer Chiya, is there a reward for winning the mock race?"

"What reward do you want for a mock race?"

Isn't winning what you're supposed to do?!

"I want a Mandrake, the screaming kind!" Gold Ship raised her hand.

"Sure thing. Go find Platform 9¾, get on the train to a place called Hogwarts, and you'll find it there."

"That sounds like too much trouble."

"If it's too much trouble, then don't ask for it!" Chiya snapped.

She didn't put in any effort during training but had plenty of requests.

However, he had to admit that rewarding the Horse Girls could indeed boost their competitive spirit.

With that thought, he said, "Alright, if you win, we'll go to an amusement park on the weekend."

"For real? You're the best, boss!"

"An amusement park..."

"Rice has never been to an amusement park before."

"But there's a condition!" Chiya held up a finger. "We'll only go if all of you win."

"That's too harsh!" Gold Ship was the first to object. Who knew what kind of monsters were among the new students? If a dark horse suddenly appeared, their trip would be ruined.

She had originally planned to pass the glorious task of winning onto Shirayuki.

"If you can't even win a mock race, what's the point of celebrating? So, all of you run seriously. No slacking off."

"Rice will... do my best."

"Then I'll try my best too," Meisho Doto said, tapping her fingers, clearly not wanting to drag the team down.

"What about you, Shirayuki? You think this condition is too harsh too, right?" Gold Ship asked.

"Me? I... think Trainer Chiya is right. A celebration is only meaningful if the whole team wins."

That's what he said, but what he thought was, 'Don't even think about sucking up to me, you little brat!'

"Damn it, is this what being siblings is like? They're in the same boat!"

"Rice also agrees with Onii-sama," Rice Shower interjected stiffly upon hearing Gold Ship's comment.

And so, it was settled. A celebration would be held if all members won. Of course, the probability of that was slim to none. Chiya had only said it to save some money. He was already burdened with Shirayuki's tuition and living expenses, barely making ends meet. Now he had to pay for their amusement park tickets, and after a Graded Race victory, he would have to buy a truckload of carrots.

He was afraid he'd have to take out a loan just to go to work. The statement was just a way to placate them.

After everyone else had left, Shirayuki, who was supposed to leave with them, suddenly turned back to Chiya.

She still remembered what Nase Fumino had said.

A Horse Girl's body determines her upper limit.

Whether it was steel or glass, the path ahead would be completely different.

According to Nase, if there was something wrong with the foot, the Horse Girl's center of gravity would shift. The Horse Girl herself might not be able to feel this shift, and it required an experienced trainer to observe it.

After half an hour of complete relaxation, only a few Horse Girls were left on the training grounds doing their own training. In this relaxed atmosphere, Shirayuki began to bend down and start running.

"Hmm..."

Chiya narrowed his eyes, observing carefully.

By the way, which way does the center of gravity shift? Forward or backward? And how do you compare the front and back center of gravity?

After thinking to no avail, Chiya slapped his head.

He was completely clueless. His experience was not enough to detect a shift in the center of gravity.

Is this the difference between a rookie and an advanced trainer? The answer is right in front of my face, but I can't understand it due to my lack of ability.

Just as he was feeling discouraged, Shirayuki's foot suddenly stepped on something hard. With a crisp ding, the object bounced off the sole of her shoe.

Is that a horseshoe?!

Shirayuki caught a glimpse of a flash in the setting sun.

A sharp cramp shot through her toes, and her speed instantly dropped.

Damn it... I stepped on something right in the arch of my foot.

She hadn't expected the horseshoe to be stuck in the ground at an angle!

Damn it, who would be so inconsiderate as to leave a horseshoe lying around...

Stepping on a curved object like that could easily cause a cramp. That was why the track was always checked for large stones before every race.

Unable to stand steadily, Shirayuki limped to the side of the track and sat down. Chiya hurried over.

To be safe, I should check if her foot is injured.

With that thought, Chiya untied her shoelaces and helped her take off her shoe. Her foot, covered in a snow-white stocking, was still steaming slightly. A mixed scent of sweat and soap filled his nostrils.

Do Horse Girls' feet smell this much after a run?

Seeing the stocking, which had become translucent from sweat, Chiya was stunned. Her pale, delicate skin was faintly visible, and her crystal-clear toes involuntarily curled up in the cool outdoor air. Looking at the foot that resembled a popsicle, all sorts of strange thoughts began to pop into his head.

Edible...

No, no, this is a training ground, not a bedroom.

Chiya quickly shook his head, trying to banish those thoughts.

The arch of my foot still hurts!

Anyway, I need to take off the stocking first.

Just as Chiya's hands were on Shirayuki's calf, a cold voice came from behind.

"What are you doing?"

Hearing the voice, Chiya turned his head and saw Mejiro Dober, holding a tree branch, her expression tense.
