Kai drove home with one hand casually on the wheel, the other flipping his phone open to scroll through contacts.
His expression, previously sharp and mocking while dealing with Nathan, softened noticeably when Evelyn's name appeared.
He tapped the call button. The call only rang once before it connected.
"Hello?" Evelyn's voice was calm, slightly tired. She was probably still working.
Kai smiled a little. "It's me."
Evelyn rolled her eyes, though the smile in her voice couldn't be hidden.
"Of course it's you. Who else would be calling me with Kai Moreno's number?"
Kai chuckled softly.
"Okay, you got me there. By the way I have good news."
Evelyn raised an eyebrow already knowing where this was going.
"Let me hear it"
Kai didn't drag it out.
"I won the bid. It was ridiculously satisfying to watch his face turn different colours with anger while he remained powerless"
Evelyn clicked her tongue.
