Evelyn wasn't in the mood for petty altercations so she sidestepped but the woman blocked her again, waggling her fingered from side to side.
"Oh no, Evelyn. I really want to talk with you, why are you avoiding me."
Evelyn could feel a headache coming on. This lady's unprovoked malice would be her last straw.
"What do you want?"
Rhea's smile widened, her hands clasped delicately in front of her as though she were about to offer a peace treaty. Her voice, light and airy, carried the perfect illusion of innocence.
"Oh, Evelyn, I was just so curious to see how you've been," she said, tilting her head and batting her lashes.
"It must be so… difficult, attending your father's events all alone."
Evelyn paused, raising an eyebrow. Curious? Or attempting to needle me? She didn't answer, trying to sidestep her.
But Rhea was not done. She shifted gracefully in Evelyn's path, almost theatrically, and let out a soft sigh.
