"Should I shout for help?" Lilian quickly thought but the idea died before it could manifest properly as another one came up;
"But who will come to my rescue when the attacker is right outside the door?" She swallowed hard at the brutal realization.
Then she stood frozen in the shower, water still dripping down her body, her heart hammering so hard she could hear it in her ears.
As scared as she was, she expected whoever or whatever that was outside the bathroom door to make a move... Probably to touch the doorknob but it didn't happen.
The footsteps had stopped completely now and there was no sound from the bedroom anymore, other than Lilian's heavy breathing which was coming out in short pants and the water still dripping.
She was too scared to even reach out and turn off the shower.
To be sure, she held her breath for a moment and it was complete silence.
Her eyes squinted as she wondered what was happening.
