Jian Ci shook his head, still dazed. Yu Xi's fingers lingered on his cheek, warm and steady. "You scared me," he said softly.
Jian Ci looked at him, searching his face for any sign of anger or any indication that he knew what he had done, but Yu Xi's expression was only concern. And Jian Ci didn't know whether to feel relieved… or terrified.
Jian Ci's hand shot up, catching Yu Xi's wrist. He didn't push it away. He just held it there, firm but not harsh.
Then he pointed at Yu Xi's lips. "What happened to your lips?" he asked, voice low and hoarse.
Yu Xi blinked, momentarily caught off guard. He had forgotten, but now that Jian Ci mentioned it, the dull ache returned. It was a faint throb beneath the surface of his lower lip. Last night's memory flickered through his mind.
