Chapter 28: Contaminated Mana
That night, the sky was veiled in a layer of dim purple mist.
Caesar's carriage rolled out from the royal palace gates, followed by six knights and two mages.
Inside the carriage, Emilia looked out the window. The magic lights of the city flickered weakly, as if about to go out. Public order was unstable.
"Are you sure you want to handle this yourself?" Caesar asked, his expression worried despite trying to hide it. "I can dispatch several knights to investigate the infected district instead of letting you go to such a dangerous place."
Milim had looked pitiful when she was sick. If something happened to Emilia as well…
"This is a fair exchange between the two of us," Emilia replied without even glancing at him. "I am a mage. I will always abide by fair and voluntary transactions."
Caesar let out a faint laugh, though his eyes were filled with concern. "Emilia, if something happens… "
