Donald's car was already waiting in front of the magazine building when Grace stepped out.
The afternoon sun was bright, warm against her skin, and a light breeze blew strands of hair across her face.
She smiled when she saw him, but her smile slowly faded when something caught her attention.
Across the street, a man stood in a black hoodie and a cap pulled low over his face.
He wasn't moving. He stood still, facing her directly.
She couldn't see his face, but something about him made her uneasy. It felt like his eyes were fixed only on her.
Her heartbeat quickened. She blinked once, and just then, a car passed by. When it cleared, the man was gone.
Grace swallowed hard and looked around again. Nothing. No sign of him.
Donald stepped out of the car, his usual calm smile on his face.
"Ready?" he asked, opening the passenger door for her.
Grace forced a smile and nodded. "Yeah."
