Chapter 38 - Chapter 38 King's Night

Chaos is a ladder. Petyr Baelish liked or was good at creating chaos and profiting from it.

Each time chaos was stirred, Petyr always managed to strengthen his own power.

What was his purpose, or was it just a casual move?

Normally, summoned by Duke Jon, a model old vassal of the Dragon family who had been suppressed, Green, as a descendant of a model old vassal of the Dragon family, would surely panic and immediately seek help from Queen Cersei.

Queen Cersei had always disliked Duke Jon's monopolization of power, and according to Queen Cersei's character, she might even use this matter as an opportunity to lash out.

Queen Cersei's perspective was, 'You dare touch my people? I've finally caught you red-handed, haven't I! This is an opportunity delivered right to my doorstep, I can't let it go!'

With Queen Cersei's poor political wisdom, she might even secretly thank Petyr Baelish afterwards, even if she knew it was Petyr Baelish's doing.

Queen Cersei could blow things up, but she couldn't win anything from Duke Jon.

Queen Cersei was no match for Duke Jon, and she would absolutely not reflect on her own mistakes, only blaming those around her, especially Green.

Just as Tyrion said when he analyzed Queen Cersei's character for Green, 'When she likes you, she likes you a lot, but when she hates you, she despises you even more.'

Green's favorability was highly likely to be reset to zero.

There wouldn't be a life-threatening danger; Green's outcome was highly likely to be expelled from King's Landing, becoming a laughingstock.

At this point, Queen Cersei was unreliable.

This was also the disadvantage brought by Green's low political status.

In Petyr's view, even if it was exposed later, a country baron who couldn't even protect himself wouldn't dare seek revenge, nor did he have the power to do so.

Petyr probably felt that he was more likely to remain silently hidden behind the scenes, and his safety would be guaranteed whether he moved left or right.

If Petyr understood Green, his actions would be more cautious, and his strategies more brilliant.

He wouldn't easily resort to means, or directly remain outside the situation.

Petyr treated Green as a harmless little pawn that could be easily sacrificed.

He was underestimated!

Green stopped his thoughts: "My sincere friend, Lord Tyrion, I need your help."

Tyrion's face was serious: "What do you want to do?"

Green first expressed his gratitude: "I don't have my own intelligence channels in King's Landing. I need Lannister's intelligence. I want to see Petyr Baelish tonight."

Tyrion nodded without a moment's hesitation, agreeing to Green's request, then said: "Will there be bloodshed? If things escalate, it will be more disadvantageous for you. My advice is..."

Tyrion paused for a moment, then continued: "You can find an excuse to temporarily avoid it. It just so happens that you might be responsible for the Queen's Kingswood Hunting. Tomorrow morning, I'll go see Jaime and settle things first."

Green shook his head slightly: "I don't deny that's a good idea. Perhaps over time, the big figures will forget about a small person like me."

Green took a sip of summer red and then spoke again: "Perhaps I can avoid it this time, but as long as I remain Queen Cersei's steward, I will always be targeted by those with ulterior motives."

With a slight sigh, a cold light flashed in Green's eyes: "Duke Jon still needs to be met. Kleber won't forget his care for us."

The atmosphere was a bit heavy, and a smile appeared on Tyrion's face: "Aha, you taught me that phrase, yes, I remember now, Petyr has kicked a steel plate this time!"

Green smiled: "The worst case is that you can only see me in my territory in the future. I have Goldenrod ale and mermaids there, you'll like it."

"Baron Green, I actually doubt the legend of mermaids..."

Late at night, all of King's Landing had fallen asleep.

Green, dressed in black leather armor, leaned against the outer wall, gazing at the starry sky.

Inside the courtyard, Angai silently approached a guard, suddenly striking, covering the guard's mouth with one hand and pressing the back of his neck with the other, twisting hard. The guard slumped down.

This was the fifth guard Angai had dealt with.

Having finished, Angai mimicked a bird call, sending a signal to Green outside.

Hearing Angai's signal, Green scaled the high wall and quietly entered the courtyard.

Angai approached Green and whispered: "My Lord, three visible sentries and two hidden sentries have been dealt with. Our Clan Soldiers have already taken their positions."

Green's Clan Soldiers were truly not suited for this kind of night raid. Fortunately, Angai, a born archer who had just joined, was quite skilled, otherwise, Green would have had to act personally.

Green decided to transfer another batch of Survey Corps over; they were suitable for this kind of work.

Angai continued: "Entering the house, unlike outside, it's very easy to wake the guards inside. I suggest we climb through the window directly..."

Green looked up at the third-floor window: "Petyr is actually resting here tonight, he's truly cautious."

Green thought that Petyr Baelish hadn't guessed he would suddenly "visit," but rather it was a habit born of his character.

Someone like Petyr, who loved to create chaos every day, wouldn't have a fixed residence.

Green said to Angai: "Just you and I will go up. The others will remain on alert."

On the bed, Petyr Baelish, who was sound asleep, suddenly felt a light breeze.

Petyr's eyelashes trembled slightly, then he suddenly opened his eyes.

Petyr sat up, looking at the two figures in the bedroom, a momentary confusion appearing in his eyes.

Petyr was startled, and a fine cold sweat instantly broke out on his back.

Green gestured for Angai to light the candle, and the room became illuminated.

Petyr squinted, and after his eyes adjusted to the candlelight, he said: "You are... it's you!"

Green unceremoniously pulled a chair and, with a thud, placed it beside the bed.

Angai silently walked to the bedroom door and stood there.

Green sat down on the chair: "I am truly delighted by Lord Petyr's gift, so I disturbed you late at night. You must be very surprised, right?"

Surprised? More like scared.

Petyr forcefully suppressed the panic in his heart, an elegant smile appearing on his face, his voice hoarse: "If Baron Green had come during the day, I would have been more welcoming."

Petyr spread his hand and said: "If you don't mind, I'd like to put on some clothes."

Green was also a little surprised that the cautious Petyr slept completely naked.

Cautious people often lack a sense of security and generally don't sleep naked. Perhaps years of smooth sailing had strengthened Petyr's inner self.

Green made a "please" gesture without hesitation.

Petyr was just about to breathe a sigh of relief when he noticed a cold, gleaming dagger had appeared in Green's hand at some point.

Petyr put on a black robe: "I've heard of you. You're a very outstanding young man. I've always wanted to find an opportunity to meet you."

Petyr curled his lips and added: "We are acquainted now, and we are already friends. I am very willing to help my friends."

Green revealed a smile: "There's a chair over there, you can sit opposite me."

Danger. I can feel this young man is still considering whether to kill me or not.

Also, where are my guards? How did he appear here?

Although Petyr's heart was in turmoil, he maintained a calm facade, naturally pulling over a chair as Green had suggested, tidying his clothes, and sitting upright opposite Green.
