Selene POV
I inhaled slowly, closing my eyes as I tuned in to the primal cacophony around me. Bones cracking, muscles stretching beyond human limits, muffled cries of pain, the grunts of exertion, all of it blended into the symphony of the shift. The air shimmered with raw energy, the scent of fur, sweat, and earth mingling with the subtle musk of wolves awakening to their true forms.
But then I noticed something strange, while chaos unfolded around me, I felt nothing. No heat, no surge of power, no primal awakening within my limbs. My eyes snapped open, and I realized that every gaze was on me, curious, concerned, anxious. The pack watched me, waiting for a signal I couldn't give.
Lucian's voice came softly, a whisper that brushed my ear. "Selene… what happened?"
I blinked at him, my heart hammering. "I… I don't know," I murmured, keeping my voice steady. "Go… help those who have already begun. Today… today is probably not my day."
