Chapter 8 - 8. Fight again?

"Get out of here, you piss bag!"

That same Hipchi had peed on her face again, and she was losing her mind while chasing it.

İts head tilted side to side, a sly grin curling up, almost wicked.

She had to go through the bar to reach the bathroom and wash her face, but after last night, she was uneasy.

Maybe she should just tell Darkov everything, because she wanted to go home. It wasn't that this place was terrible, but after fighting a monkey and nearly dying, the thought of ending up dead - or in a coma - scared her.

"Having a small bladder doesn't mean you can just pee on my face!"

She sighed in frustration, grabbed a glass off the floor, poured a bit of water into her palm, and wiped her face and neck.

She'd gotten up earlier than yesterday because she hadn't slept right all night , thanks to that talk with Darkov.

If I don't stay here, how am I even supposed to change universes again? Maybe I should just fight another animal…

"Don't worry, I won't attack you. I'd win anyway and you'd end up in another universe , and neither of us wants that,"

she mumbled to herself before glancing at the mirror again. She was beardless, with dark sunburned skin , a typical slave look, though unlike in the books, he didn't seem that neglected.

Even though everything else is different, my eyes are still the same. So many people complimented them yesterday while I was working , but why? We have the same eyes? Maybe they can feel something from my world… maybe they recognize the echo of my eyes I don't know.

She skipped breakfast - too nervous - and stayed in her room until work. Nobody looked at anyone, nobody spoke; everyone just felt awkward around each other. For once, the day passed quietly, without drama , but it didn't even make her happy.

She wiped tables, got scolded sometimes , actually, most of the time. Her body moved on its own, out of sync.

Thankfully, the cups were made of steel , if they weren't, I'd have to pay for every broken one, and there goes my chance of buying new clothes anytime soon.

Haven't seen the green-eyed one yet… maybe he went looking for Gralik again. If so, I'll just jump into his arms and say 'I'm here!'

"Hey, move! I can't see her!"

"Oh, sorry, sir."

I'd wanted to take out the trash on purpose, but nobody showed up, so I went inside.

The bar door burst open and Ravion walked in laughing, his eyes flashing with triumph.

"Make way, everyone!"

Only two of us were inside ,Cassira and me.

"The money man's here, yeah!"

He yelled, tossing a small pouch at Cassira and leaning his elbow on her shoulder.

"Hey man, did you shrink or something? You were the same height as me yesterday!"

He'd secretly compared their heights , and yeah , he was surprised, since he was above average, she has almost the same height as him.

How the hell was he so chill after yesterday? Was he trying to bring it up? No way I got shorter.

"What did you even bet on this time?! If it's about the bar or someone in it, I swear I'll kill you!"

Cassira snapped.

Feeling weird, I slipped between them and headed to my room. My legs froze for a second in front of Darkov's door.

My hand almost lifted to knock , but I hesitated and kept walking.

"Oh..hipchi, you still here?"

I muttered as I shut the door.

"I can't stay here. They probably don't even want me after yesterday. I don't have anything worth taking anyway. Guess I'll just run from the Death-Bringer , maybe wander around Olgard for a while."

She spoke while petting Hipchi, but the creature didn't snuggle back. When her hand brushed its head again, Hipchi bit down, as hard as a Hipchi could bite.

"AAAH!"

she screamed in pain, trying to pull her hand free. Hipchi didn't stop , its hips twitched like a predator ready to pounce, its glass-blue eyes glinting.

"No! Not this time!"

Still, she didn't react fast enough , Hipchi slammed into her head, knocking her hard into the door. Her ribs burned as if shattered; the impact stole her breath.

What kind of creature even is this thing?!

"Who are you running from, without telling me?"

The same voice echoed through the room.

The small Hipchi's body had already rotted away , and the powerful Death-Bringer now stood before her again. Shock froze her. She screamed as he grabbed her by the collar and threw her straight across from her room.

I screamed - on purpose this time - I wanted someone to hear me! I hate myself for being weak, for being ugly, for not being me.

"FUCK!"

The Death-Bringer laughed, wild and cruel, grabbing her by the hair and slamming her head against the floor.

"AAAHHH!"

The door burst open suddenly
