Chapter 51 - Supreme Mage

After dealing with Madame Gao, Ailer was left with little strength, and his armor automatically disengaged. He turned around and saw a yellow-robed figure standing within a sparkling ring of fire.

Noticing Ailer's gaze, the yellow-robed figure removed their hood, revealing their true appearance.

The person had a gentle smile and a benevolent demeanor. Their skin was firm and delicate, and their features were refined, but there wasn't a single strand of hair on their head.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, young man. It was my oversight not to see you at the New York Sanctum the previous times. Since you know of the Sanctum's existence, you should know my title."

Ailer had been to the New York Sanctum before, hoping to learn magic, but he was repeatedly turned away.

It seemed this Sorcerer would check visitor records...

"It's an honor to finally meet you, Sorcerer Supreme of Kamar-Taj." Ailer politely bowed slightly, expressing his respect to Sorcerer Ancient One.

Sorcerer Ancient One's origins were untraceable, but in Ailer's memory, this Sorcerer had lived for hundreds of years, and her profound magic mastery struck fear into the Hell Demons.

As long as Sorcerer Ancient One was still alive, even the demon lords of Hell had to tuck their tails between their legs and behave on Earth!

Besides mastering magic, this Sorcerer also possessed a divine artifact called the 'Eye of Agamotto.' This artifact contained the Time Stone, one of the Infinity Stones, allowing her to also see timelines.

Even without meeting someone in person, Ancient One could know their entire life.

In one timeline, Sorcerer Ancient One could say to Bruce Banner, whom she had never met, 'You shouldn't be here now, Dr. Banner.'

"Come over, child, this place will be swarming with people soon," Sorcerer Ancient One kindly invited.

Sorcerer Ancient One was right; the recent battle had been too loud. Half of New York City had witnessed the fight between the demon and the divine beast, and videos were probably already uploaded to online platforms.

This time, some people would probably have to put in effort to cover it up, as no gas pipeline explosion would look like that.

At Sorcerer Ancient One's invitation, Ailer stepped through the ring of light and entered an elegantly furnished room.

This seemed to be a museum, with uniquely shaped objects covered by glass cases or hung on the walls.

Upon entering, Ailer looked around for a moment before retracting his gaze.

These were magical artifacts collected by Sorcerer Ancient One, many of which were dangerous.

Sorcerer Ancient One gently waved her hand, and a wooden door appeared on the wall. She stepped forward, pushed the door open, and led Ailer into a reception room.

In the center of the reception room was a tea table with a pot of hot tea and an incense burner emitting green smoke. The overall decor could be described as simple.

Sorcerer Ancient One invited Ailer to sit and then brewed a pot of tea for Ailer.

Ailer watched the clear tea slowly pour into the teacup. Then Sorcerer Ancient One put down the teapot and pushed the teacup towards Ailer.

"You've probably been waiting for this day for a long time, haven't you?" Sorcerer Ancient One said with a benevolent smile. She noticed Ailer's hand gripping the teacup tightly, so she comforted him:

"It's alright. I know you were born on Earth. For me, that's enough."

"Good." Ailer sighed in relief. After taking a small sip of tea, he looked at Sorcerer Ancient One and asked a question that had bothered him for a long time.

"Sorcerer, can I learn magic?"

magic was also a good power; if he could master it, Ailer's strength would increase significantly.

Hearing this, Sorcerer Ancient One shook her head, "You are very talented, but your personality is not suited for learning magic."

"Personality?"

"You are passionate and brave, daring to draw your sword against evil, which is a good thing. But I worry that in some major situations, you might choose dangerous powers. Yet, every step in learning magic is like walking on a knife's edge, requiring extreme caution. Therefore, I believe your personality is not suitable for learning magic," Sorcerer Ancient One directly confessed to Ailer.

Upon hearing this, Ailer immediately understood what Sorcerer Ancient One was saying.

magic in the Marvel Universe could borrow power from extra-dimensional demon gods. Sorcerer Ancient One was probably worried that Ailer would seek the power of evil-aligned demon gods in extreme circumstances, which was why she refused Ailer's request to learn magic.

However, Ailer didn't feel bad about it. magic could be icing on the cake, but he could become stronger without magic now.

"Thank you for clarifying, Sorcerer," Ailer said calmly. Then, he remembered something else.

"Although I cannot learn magic, can I temper my spirit at Kamar-Taj?"

In the future, there might be telepaths, and Ailer currently had no means of resistance. Therefore, he had to temper his willpower and use his own strength to deal with these people.

"Yes," Sorcerer Ancient One nodded. "I see you've also learned 'Qi,' but the method is incomplete. Although I haven't practiced this, Kamar-Taj and K'un-Lun are friends, and there are relevant books that might be useful to you."

"Thank you, Sorcerer."

Ailer thanked Sorcerer Ancient One. His Qi was learned by secretly observing Madame Gao, and Madame Gao's method was rare and possibly incomplete, most likely perfected through four centuries of hard practice.

A manual with complete practice methods would still be very beneficial to Ailer.

"As for tempering your spirit? I can help you with that, but you must persevere, because my methods will be quite cruel."

Sorcerer Ancient One's face still held a benevolent smile, but Ailer felt her smile was profound, as if hiding a bottomless lake.

However, Ailer could feel that Sorcerer Ancient One had no ill intentions.

Hearing this, Ailer replied, "As long as it can temper my spirit, I will definitely persevere."

"Good, then go prepare for your daily trivial. Austere training isn't something that can be resolved in a day or two," Sorcerer Ancient One reminded Ailer.

"Give me two days," Ailer replied.

"Then go take care of it. At this time two days from now, wait for me at the New York Sanctum's entrance."

Sorcerer Ancient One took a sip of tea herself, then with a wave of her hand, the wooden door opened, and the bustling city view entered Ailer's sight.

After that, Ailer got up and left. He had to deal with work matters, such as sending the remaining manuscript of his book to the publisher, and household chores like the food in the refrigerator.

Two days passed quickly. Ailer dealt with his affairs and returned to the entrance of the New York Sanctum.

As the Sanctum's large door opened, Ailer, carrying his luggage, strode inside.

"You're here? Then let's go."

Sorcerer Ancient One was already waiting for Ailer. With a sweep of her hand, a sparkling portal appeared. Through the portal, Ailer saw Kamar-Taj, an ancient temple nestled in the Himalayas.
