KELLAN WARD
"Scared for you," he murmured. "Never of you."
She gave a shaky laugh. "Even if I'm some kind of science project?"
He lifted her chin. She looked terrified. Even her lips quivered. "Aurora. You are my wife. My world. Nothing will ever change that."
"What if I'm … different in ways I don't understand?"
His heart squeezed. Kellan brushed a thumb over her cheek. "I've always known you were one of a kind. That's why I fell in love with you. We'll figure out the rest together."
He watched her take in a slow breath, eyes shining with unshed tears. She turned into his palm, kissing it softly. The truth was, his own heart was pounding—maybe not with fear for himself, but with the cold knowledge that she wouldn't be safe from Dr. Sung or anyone else who found out her and her brother's secret. He wondered if she could feel the tremor in his hand.
He hoped not.
