Chapter 166 - Chapter 165: The Executioners

Peacemaker, whose real name is Christopher Smith, is a White strongman of not particularly tall stature.

He is not a metahuman, nor is he a cyborg; he is merely an ordinary person who has undergone rigorous Military skills training.

He is proficient in various hand-to-hand killing techniques and can kill a professional assassin, also unarmed, without any tools, not even a pencil.

He is proficient in the use of various firearms and can skillfully drive various vehicles.

He also possesses some high-tech equipment that can assist him in intelligence-gathering tasks.

However, under the influence and education of his father, he developed a high degree of identification with U.S. values and a distorted belief in justice stemming from that identification.

That is, whatever benefits the United States is just, and whatever harms the United States is evil.

For this, his gun can kill anyone, even himself.

This was the information Harcourt saw in the archives... She looked up, expressionless, at the prison entrance, where Peacemaker was trying to stand ramrod straight with half his buttocks exposed, a question mark slowly forming in her head.

Was this seemingly unintelligent guy in front of her really the same elite individual described in the files?

Peacemaker was trying hard to present his best side at this moment, but he couldn't help but steal glances at Harcourt from the corner of his eye.

This couldn't be blamed on him. Although he was seen as an executioner by the outside World, the real Peacemaker was actually just an ordinary person, and he had all the desires a normal person would have.

And in Belle Reve prison, some desires could truly only be realized in sweet dreams. He hadn't seen a female animal in a long time, let alone a beauty like Harcourt.

So, he couldn't hold it in and got an erection.

With that erection, his other exposed buttock became even more prominent.

Harcourt turned away in disgust, her impression of this man having plummeted to rock bottom, but she was a seasoned intelligence agent and didn't let it affect her work.

So she said to Peacemaker in an extremely cold tone: "Christopher Smith, the United States needs you. You are now conscripted into the Military."

Hearing these words, Peacemaker's eyes lit up. He suddenly straightened his body again and shouted: "I obey all orders of the Nation!"

It would have been better if he hadn't done that; as he straightened his body, a certain area became even more prominent. Harcourt didn't want to stay in this place any longer and left after issuing the conscription order.

Peacemaker remained in his prison cell, grinning foolishly.

Peacemaker was not the only person Amanda selected; he was merely chosen as the leader. In this Belle Reve prison, there were other "talents" chosen to join the "X-Squad." Polka-Dot Man was one of them.

After the superhero organization Justice League made its public debut, more and more scientific organizations began researching the possibility of artificially created metahumans.

Polka-Dot Man was a victim produced in the validation of this possibility.

Polka-Dot Man, whose real name is Abner Krill, was the son of a scientist at S.T.A.R. Labs.

That scientist accidentally discovered a dimensional virus and rashly applied it to Abner, attempting to transform him into a metahuman.

As a result, he succeeded, but this ability was more of a curse than a superpower.

Polka-Dot Man would grow glowing pustules on his body, which could be removed and used as deadly projectiles.

However, he couldn't control them well, to the point that one day he accidentally killed his own mother.

Due to his painful upbringing, to this day, he sees everyone as if they were his mother, making it difficult for him to communicate normally with people.

But Amanda believed that his shortcomings would not affect his ability to carry out missions, so Polka-Dot Man was conscripted without any right to refuse.

In addition to these, there were other incarcerated villains, such as Killer Croc, who had been transferred to Checkmate's custody long ago.

Originally, he was also one of the candidates.

However, Killer Croc's features were too distinctive, making it easy to arouse suspicion towards Checkmate, and he was also not adapted to the marine environment. So, after some thought, Amanda decided against involving him in this operation.

Instead, the recently emerging villain Blackguard, a young mercenary skilled in using various modern weapons, was chosen.

And Mongal, a female alien with superhuman physical abilities who was captured by Checkmate immediately upon arriving on Earth.

Adding Shark King Nanaue, this team of five was thus assembled.

Although Harcourt didn't know what mission Amanda wanted them to carry out, when she saw this motley crew standing in a line before her, she felt that this whole affair seemed a bit unreliable.

"The mission you are to carry out will be briefed to you before departure, but it involves classified information, and only Peacemaker will be privy to all details of the mission."

Upon hearing this, Blackguard immediately wanted to grumble, but when Peacemaker pointed a large-caliber revolver at his forehead, he instantly shut up.

This slightly satisfied Harcourt. She then began arranging for everyone to undergo surgery to implant miniature bombs in their brains.

They couldn't refuse; they had already known about this during their conscription, so the surgery was completed smoothly.

After the surgery, everyone boarded the departing helicopter. They would train at another secret Base for a period, receive new equipment, and then carry out the mission.

At this point, they still didn't know what kind of mission they were about to undertake.

Peacemaker was the first to learn the mission details. After reading the mission requirements, he was only solemn for a moment, then acted as if nothing had happened.

This finally allowed Harcourt to see the coldness and ruthlessness beneath his comical exterior. He was indeed a qualified executioner.

She confidently entrusted the mission to him and returned to Checkmate to report to Amanda.

As the X-Squad departed, Dane also noticed this team simultaneously. He immediately contacted Arthur.

Before Arthur left, Dane had given him a wristband that could not only be used for communication but also, if necessary, directly teleport him to the Justice League or provide location coordinates to other members of the Justice League.

"Dane?"

Arthur seemed busy. Dane saw that he looked much more tired than when they had last met; the duties of kingship were truly an extremely heavy burden.

"Arthur, I received news that the Military is preparing to act against the Atlanteans."

Arthur's mind immediately cleared: "Is this a retaliatory action?"

The United States' little schemes were mostly guessed by both domestic and international parties; how could they not react at all after being invaded by Atlantis?

"What are they planning to do?" Arthur asked urgently.

Dane explained to him, "They plan to use a genetic weapon, specifically targeting the genetic information fragments of the Undersea people, to make all Undersea people suffer from heart failure..."

"This is anti-human!" Arthur roared loudly.

If it were just a Military operation, then it would be fine; in a back-and-forth, no one could say anything.

But deploying genetic weapons, this is to include civilians in the attack range!

Although Atlantis did the same thing back then, people are naturally double-standard.

"It's not that simple," Dane motioned for him to calm down.

"673 I suspect other forces are involved in this matter, and it's not just at the behest of the Military high command."

"What do you mean?"

Dane pulled up various data for the genetic weapon, all copied from LexCorp's computers, and sent these to Arthur.

Arthur looked at it, dizzy and confused, and after a long time, he couldn't make sense of anything, so he could only say helplessly, "Why don't you just tell me the conclusion."

This report was not originally for him; Dane hoped he could give it to Atlanna or Vulko, so they could judge the situation.

"The conclusion is, this genetic weapon is not only aimed at Atlanteans but at all of humanity!

The mastermind is not helping the United States at all; his goal has been aimed at all of humanity from the start."

"It's still anti-human after all!" Arthur cursed.

Dane saw that he still didn't understand and simply chose to say directly, "I suspect this is very likely an alien force at play."

As for why he didn't suspect it was an issue from the Magical Realm, it was because he hadn't received a warning from the Rock of Eternity, and the seven deadly sins were all still properly sealed.

Arthur scratched his head; how did this matter get tied to aliens?

Of course, he didn't doubt it, he was just a little depressed; it hadn't been long since the Coast City incident, so why was Earth being targeted by aliens again?

You can target it if you want, but you come after me just a few days after I returned to Atlantis? Isn't that a bit disrespectful?

"Dane, what do you think we should do about this?"

He habitually asked Dane for advice.

"You should discuss this with your mother first. This involves a crisis for all of humanity, and the Justice League is willing to extend a helping hand to Atlantis."

Arthur agreed without hesitation. After disconnecting the video call, he immediately went to Queen Atlanna to tell her about it.
