From Iris's behavior to her mother's suspicious actions, I was already picking up on a few things.
The two did not get along well, so why were they still acting like a mother-and-daughter duo? What did Iris's mother have on her that made her comply?
I walked over to the children and gave them a smile. However, I noticed they looked slightly upset because they turned to their mother immediately instead of me.
"Mommy, are we going to have dinner too?" Amy interrupted. "Daddy is going to take the bad lady out for dinner, so who will we have dinner with?"
Her words made me glance at her, then look at Iris. I knelt slightly and gently touched her cheek.
"Of course I will have dinner with you. I did not mean to leave you out," I assured her.
She pouted and folded her arms across her chest.
"You don't have to give them false hopes?" Iris snapped as I turned my attention back to her.
There was agitation in her body language, as if she wanted to get away from me.
