At this moment, the young man reached a rooftop overlooking the street after several consecutive leaps.
Standing at the edge of the rooftop was a boy wearing a Spider-Man suit.
"Teacher, how did I do?" the youth asked as he came up to Peter, his tone almost like he was asking for credit. Expectation shone in his eyes as he hoped to receive a word of praise from Peter.
Peter looked at him and shook his head slightly. "Have you forgotten everything I usually tell you? You clearly could've gone down at a better moment—come in from the side, grab the car, lift it up, and end the fight. But what did you do? You insisted on waiting until it broke through the defense line, then went straight at it head-on and clashed with it first."
"Look at where those two police cars were hit. Do you know how much the repairs will cost?"
"Fine, police cars getting damaged counts as official business and has nothing to do with us, so let's put that aside for now."
"Now look at the ground. Five point eight meters long, zero point one meters wide, with depths ranging from one centimeter to five centimeters. Do you have any idea how much it costs to repair damage like that?"
"This could've been avoided! Just because you wanted to show off, it turned into completely unnecessary losses!"
Peter nagged at the boy like an old lady, lecturing him nonstop.
"Oh, right—and I've said it before. Don't call me 'teacher'!"
Faced with Peter's admonishment, the youth nodded submissively, wearing the obedient expression of a good student who knew his mistake and would correct it. "Mm-hm, okay, teacher. Got it, teacher. I'll be careful next time, teacher."
Peter: …
The boy standing before him was naturally Richard Rider.
It had now been two months since the end of the Infinity War, and two months since Richard Rider had settled on Earth.
Over those two months, Richard had gradually integrated into life on Earth.
As Peter's devoted little fan and admirer, after seeing Peter frequently go out onto the streets to stop violence and help others, Richard assumed this was simply one of Peter's methods of cultivation.
And he believed that Peter's strength at such a young age was precisely the result of this kind of daily practice.
As a result, he was deeply inspired and secretly wanted to imitate Peter—not only to become a superhero, but also to be everyone's friendly neighbor.
And he truly had the qualifications for it.
Just as he had once sensed, after that inexplicable attack, something extraordinary had indeed happened to his body.
In fact, there had been signs long before.
How could a normal person drift through outer space without dying?
Even if they weren't frozen to death by the extreme cold, they should've been killed by the omnipresent radiation in space.
Yet Richard had drifted through space for a long time while unconscious, before being picked up by Star-Lord.
Even the people of Xandar had never possessed such abilities.
The only beings capable of this were the likes of Thanos, Odin, Hela, Thor, Loki, and Star-Lord's father Ego—Star-Lord himself might manage it with Ego's divine power backing him—along with figures like the Grandmaster and the Collector… Aside from these, ordinary lifeforms in the universe simply could not.
Even Ebony Maw would die instantly if he were blasted into outer space.
So what kind of beings were these?
Odin and Thor were gods. Thanos was a Titan. Ego was a Celestial. Star-Lord was a demigod. The Grandmaster and the Collector were Elders of the Universe. In short, none of them were normal lifeforms.
And now, Nova could do it too.
Afterward, Richard discovered that his mind seemed to have merged with Xandar's data archive. Whenever he wanted to know something—such as the coordinates of Asgard—the answer would automatically be calculated.
But when he tried to consciously control this ability, it would disappear again.
After arriving on Earth, he discovered that his body was also undergoing gradual changes—becoming different from ordinary humans, and even from Xandarians.
His strength increased steadily every day. From initially being merely at the level of an ordinary adult (he had originally been an elite of the Nova Corps), it rose to twice that, three times, five times… and now, his strength had reached ten tons.
Judging purely by the numbers, he was already stronger than Captain Rogers.
But along with the changes in his strength came changes in his personality.
At first, Richard's personality had been quite steady.
But as his body mutated, Peter noticed subtle shifts in his temperament—sometimes calm, sometimes childish, and sometimes even somewhat feminine.
Only recently had these changes begun to stabilize.
And as his personality gradually settled, Richard seemed to take shape as a slightly hyper but otherwise normal fifteen-year-old boy.
During the period when his personality was fluctuating, he had impulsively gone out more than once, wanting to use his abilities to do something meaningful.
But whenever his personality switched to a childish mode or the like, he would always end up messing things up.
And whenever he messed things up, Peter would be the one Stark held accountable.
Because Richard was learning from Peter.
Legally speaking, Happy was Richard's guardian, but in practice, ever since Richard arrived on Earth, he had almost always stayed by Peter's side.
Stark didn't care whether Peter had actually taught him or not—Peter was Richard's true guardian in every meaningful sense.
Stark even had Richard join Peter's "Spider Squad."
Although the Spider Squad was Peter's personal team, Peter's relationship with Stark could only be described as hopelessly tangled.
Too complicated.
There was no choice but to accept it.
—Well, to be honest, it wasn't that hard to accept after all. Richard's potential was plain for anyone to see.
Even now, his strength continued to rise.
And it wasn't just strength—his speed, physique, endurance, and all other aspects were increasing across the board.
Aside from lacking spider-sense and being unable to climb walls, he was practically a weakened version of Peter himself.
Not to mention, Richard was also Peter's most enthusiastic fan.
And they were the same age.
One could say that adding such a member to the Spider Squad was an enormous bargain for Peter.
Moreover, Peter more or less understood Stark's thinking: the previous generation of Avengers were now mostly over forty. People like Captain America and Black Widow were nearly centenarians—only kept youthful by genetic enhancements.
But delayed aging was not the same as immortality.
In a number of years, they would grow old.
So Stark had always wanted to assemble a "Young Avengers" team. Judging from how he had treated Peter in the past, Peter was clearly one of his chosen members.
And most likely a very important one—perhaps even the captain.
As for Richard, his potential made Stark believe that he, too, might be a suitable choice for the "Young Avengers."
As for his codename—
No matter which personality was in control, Richard believed he had to inherit the will of the Nova Corps.
Though his great vengeance had already been fulfilled, he wanted, like the Nova Corps of old, to safeguard peace throughout the universe.
And so, he called himself: Nova.
Just like that, "Nova" Richard became the newest member of the Spider Squad.
